I know I know... another rank list... sorry, but i don't know that much about the CA programs...

my ranking right now:
1) Montefiore - Einstein
2) UCLA - Harbor
3) UCLA - Kaiser Sunset
4) UCLA - Olive View
5) USC
6) St. Luke's Roosevelt

[7) Jacobi - Einstein] maybe

I'm interested in heme-onc...

thanks in advance for any input!

I know Monte matched well in heme-onc in the past, and has a ton of research opportunities...

don't know about the UCLA affiliates, but Kaiser also does a lot of research (lots of $$$)

Jacobi also matches well cuz they have access to the Einstein labs as well...

The Kaiser program is a UCLA affiliate, that's it, but it is not closely affiliated like Cedars-Sinai (100% full time UCLA faculty) (to the best of my knowledge). And I don't know if Kaiser has a Heme-Onc Fellowship.

Honestly, I would strongly urge you to raise your Olive View Rank. I gathered that it is a solid program (county experience without county BS to deal with) They rotate through the VA and Cedars (exposure to academic faculty) and Cedars-Sinai and Olive-View have a combined Heme-Onc Fellowship. I honestly would rank Olive-View above Cedars, except that I am planning on Cardiology (stronger at cedars)

Thanks for the input, guys... too bad i didn't get an interview at Cedars :(
other than moving Olive View higher (above Kaiser?), any other suggestions on the rank order? I know Montefiore is the strongest in terms of research and reputation... but how does Harbor, Olive View, Kaiser compare (esp in research)? When I visited these programs, I felt like there wasn't much research going on... even the interviewers didn't seem that interested in talking about it...

again, thanks so much for helping out...

(UCLAdukes, i think you're right, Kaiser is not as closely affiliated, but it has a ton of research... esp clinical research, that's why i had it above Olive View]

If location is not an issue, is Montefiore a much stronger program than the rest? (in terms of getting into a competitive fellowship...ie. research, reputation beyond it's local area, etc.)

UCLA Harbor is a cut above the rest. It's known for producing rock solid clinicians, the residents are overwhelmingly happy, and its a true UCLA affiliate (UCLA med students and faculty, and research). Fellowship placement is very good, much better than the others listed. It also has a national reputation, and used to be the premier so-cal residency in the 80's (example: Stanfords PD trained there).

dude, he's talking about ucla AFFILIATES... although I would agree the UCLA main program is much stronger than Monte, I don't think places like Olive View, VA, and Kaiser (all ucla AFFILIATES) are on the same level as Monte (the Einstein university program). also, olive view is not in westwood, nor is Kaiser... the only one that I'm not sure about as to how it compares would be Harbor, which is an esp strong affiliate of UCLA...
