I'll edit. colforbinMD 02-12-2006, 09:00 PM Anybody else notice they got the date for ROL deadline and match day backwards on the front page of scutwork.com. Boy I date hyslexia. JackBauERfan 02-13-2006, 07:00 PM cool this would also continue our quest for message board domination and make us one step closer to the 'general residency forum'. I am optimistic (how could I not be after spending close to 3000 bucks going to interviews and pissing off my current program) but I still dread Monday the 13th when I may get the "Sorry, you didn't match" Email. I've got a backup plan tooo horrible to contemplate but I hope I don't have to implement it. SoCuteMD 02-19-2006, 08:02 PM  I thought you were just trying to be a pal and make sure we all had a comfortable buffer in case the web died or something. Something like that actually happened the year my undergrad switched to course requests being submitted online (it was this really complicated system that was supposed to make things fair for the underclassmen). They had to extend the deadline because too many people didn't have their lists in. I wouldn't count on the NRMP doing the same thing!! EctopicFetus 02-19-2006, 08:08 PM FYI people.. I assume your school told you guys the same thing mine did.. dont wait to the last minute apparently the servers can get overwhelmed and well... you dont want to ruin your life. EMDrMoe 02-19-2006, 10:10 PM My husband's AMCAS app was frozen for 3 weeks due to server "error" - lovely. Just remember today's mantra....What will be will be! southerndoc 02-22-2006, 11:28 AM I just got word that we were approved for expansion to 13 residents/year, although the hospital is only funding 12/year right now. I think we will only be accepting 11 in the match this year though. JackBauERfan 02-22-2006, 12:17 PM It's ROL deadline day folks. We are all now playing the waiting game. Stay tuned here to know how long you must endure this madness and remember to use your time wisely. i.e. comuning with nature, visiting long lost friends and family, drinking heavily, working on your novel, joining a band, traveling the world, and as allways +pad+ ing. 18/21 Ralph05 02-23-2006, 09:16 AM 17 and 20, right? EctopicFetus 02-23-2006, 09:46 PM IIRC in Isersons book it said it takes like 5 mins or something..Not sure why we wait.. irrka 02-23-2006, 09:54 PM IIRC in Isersons book it said it takes like 5 mins or something..Not sure why we wait.. yeah both of my computer-programming parents just shrugged their shoulders when i told them. I thought maybe there was some mysterious reason only known to those in-the-know. guess not. you think they're just being sadistic? maybe to increase grey hair #s? JibeHo 02-23-2006, 10:00 PM So, who all has a big Match Day Extraveganza? We decorate up the main auditorium, dress up in costumes and perhaps embibe a few drinks in order to show up for the big announcement. Then, one person's name is announced, they come down, drop a dollar in a hat, pick the next person's name out of another hat and repeat until we all have envelopes... then we open at the same time (with the last person a little richer). Doesn't everyone do something fun. After all, it's the rest of our professional lives at stake! EctopicFetus 02-23-2006, 10:06 PM Sadistic... I mean if a comp can run a million bits of info per second.. how hard can it be to tell 20K or so people where they will be next yr? Ehhh whatever.. my wife will pull the greys as they arrive.. JackBauERfan 02-23-2006, 11:26 PM Sadistic... I mean if a comp can run a million bits of info per second.. how hard can it be to tell 20K or so people where they will be next yr? Ehhh whatever.. my wife will pull the greys as they arrive.. I think they stated somewhere they check it or something. But still, I think its just to have some buffer time, cause if I had to scramble today I'd be very NOT ready. that would suck. colforbinMD 02-24-2006, 04:39 AM [QUOTE=Ralph05]17 and 20, right? Woo hoo!! QUOTE] Now it's 17 and 20. EctopicFetus 02-24-2006, 06:45 AM I think they stated somewhere they check it or something. But still, I think its just to have some buffer time, cause if I had to scramble today I'd be very NOT ready. that would suck. Uhh like they "checked" the urology match last yr. I heard a lot of people got royally screwed cause it is a super competetive specialty and people were told they matched that ended up not matching and vice versa and people also got reshuffled to different programs.. About not being ready, I think it is all about expectations. If you knew you would submit your ROL and match a week later you would be prepared, trust me, you would be! drdrtoledo 02-24-2006, 07:40 AM double post drdrtoledo 02-24-2006, 07:47 AM Unfortunately we don't have a big extravaganza... I am not sure if it is an osteopathic thing or not. Oddly, our school hardly acknowledges the match even though half of us are in it. The ones in the osteopathic match don't get much fanfare either. Come to think of it... when it comes to the match... we are a bunch of bores!   Sounds like you guys are going to have fun though :p MedDeac 02-24-2006, 09:45 AM Uhh like they "checked" the urology match last yr. I heard a lot of people got royally screwed cause it is a super competetive specialty and people were told they matched that ended up not matching and vice versa and people also got reshuffled to different programs.. yeah they had to retract the initial urology match and run it again last year. I heard some of the top programs didn't even fill the first time which made no sense. We all bumrush the mailboxes at noon and open our envelopes right away. Then we retire to a late lunch where we go up, drop a dollar, and announce our match results. Works pretty well and you don't have to wait with an un-opened envelop in your hand. irrka 02-24-2006, 11:49 AM if I had to scramble today I'd be very NOT ready. that would suck. and scrambling at any other point makes you more ready for it? or sucks less? i dunno.... irrka 02-24-2006, 11:56 AM We all gather 'round and then they call your name and give you an envelope. Until you hear your name you pray that your sphincter will hold. crewmaster1 02-24-2006, 08:51 PM Is the match day the same date every year? Does anyone know when match day 2007 will be? I am planning an away elective and don't want to be out of town. Is is reasonable to think I could be done with all interviews by Jan 30th? I am supposed to start a rotation in Africa Feb 1st 2007. I will also have to do my ROL from Africa....is it crazy to be out of town during this time? Thanks for the help. JackBauERfan 02-24-2006, 08:56 PM Is the match day the same date every year? Thanks for the help. just look at the week in march that is around 10-20 and see what day is a Thursday, probably that day is match day. I'm flying back probably even though I'm doing an away rotation, but I heard some schools don't even let you schedule away rotations during march. also, most interviews are done by Jan.30-Feb.4, so You should be done, since the programs will be done. colforbinMD 02-24-2006, 10:11 PM Under 20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 16/19 :D EctopicFetus 02-25-2006, 08:45 AM Is the match day the same date every year? Tell me about it! It's every bit as painful as it sounds. If you thought waiting around for the match was bad, imagine doing it while having to be on a geriatrics ward all day- YUCK! My school is all about "geriatrics will be the biggest population you will be working with in your careers". Thank God most of the programs I applied to don't make you do medicine wards, much less geriatrics. OH MY GOD THIS IS GOING SO SLOW!!!!!! colforbinMD 03-02-2006, 10:25 PM I've been holding my Teddy Ruxpin doll since Feb 22nd. I'm thinking the fact that Teddy Ruxpin has gotta be at least 10 years old, coupled with the fact that he's got electric parts and can't be washed, all added to weeks of desperate clutching has gotta make that one nasty teddy bear. I am trying not to think about the time remaining and instead I am trying to float that mini-keg of Heineken in my fridge :) So far I'm just proving myself to be a lightweight in my old age. I hope the time is passing better for you. To make matters worse, I know I will match on match day, mostly because I ranked 15 EM programs and 3 FM programs begind them as worst case backups. Those 3 programs are back home and would be better to me than scrambling. I'm too old to go through this again. But what makes it bad is that I won't know on the 13th that I matched into EM. I won't know that until match day. But I have what I would call at least 4 "for sures" on my EM list...at least from what they told me. So that makes me feel better. You know I'm good for it... - H What do you mean? What do you know that you are not telling me? Did Vern tell you something that I should be losing sleep nightly over? Did my high school girlfriend contact you? Did you follow me to that bar the other night? Was that you behind me on the freeway? Nah, that person had hair but maybe you grew it out just to come to Texas and screw with me.....did you? I've seen your real hair line from the pictures in your basement....I might be on to something!! Can you get those pink ants off my back for me? Can you tell me if a heart rate of 160 is normal for my body habitus and age? Did I tell you I was actually born from a Virgin? Relax FF, I'm just jacking with you because you always qualify everything you tell me with the "I don't know shi*" line. Don't worry "H", I knew that a long time ago ;)   :meanie:  :D And yes, I know I am matching in EM. Its just sucky not knowing where I am flying on the 24th to go buy a house. So yes, I will take that bet though just because I already owe you that much anyway! EctopicFetus 03-04-2006, 12:46 AM I am passing the time with a trip in Paris with my wife. Sometimes I worry sometimes I dont. I am choosing not to worry (easier said than done). I realise that this is all out of my control now. Clearly corpsman with interviews at the places you got you will match into Em, the real question is where and I think thats the real question for 95% of this board. Surely there are a few people who might not match into Em but for the most part we are in good shape. Clearly you have impressed enough people that you will be fine! In the end I am passing my time traveling and when I get back to the Chi I have a buddy coming into town and then I will take my wife out to the Opera (she has been wanting to go since we got to chicago over 4 years ago). Then the week of match my school has a bunch of stuff planned for a group of us. Since I am a "class leader" and was selected to be a member of the Gold Humanism Honor society (as bugs bunny would say "he dont know me very well do he?")(Obviously selection had nothing to do with my posts on here) I have a bunch of committee type stuff to take care of. Thats how I am passing MY time. Corpsman, surely the feral cats are still keeping you busy! Having a little Heineken only makes it MORE interesting. Back34 03-06-2006, 02:44 PM Having lived in the armpit, I must agree. :) But, there are some beautiful spots in the western part of NJ. I lived in NW Jersey until 17 y/o and can attest to the beauty of which you speak. NJ catches a bad rap because of Newark, Paterson, etc., but the state (especially the northern half) has seriously exclusive areas: Bedminster (U.S. Equestrian HQ), portions of Sussex (where I'm from)/Bergen counties, Livingston, Montclair, Bernardsville (Mike Tyson had a mansion/crashed his Beemer here), Princeton, Caldwell, and lots of places "down the shore." But to appease those who think otherwise, I've included our state anthem as sung by Uncle Floyd (only die-hard Jersey-ites know him) and to the tune of "Deep in the Heart of Texas": Oh the factory smoke, will make you choke Deep in the heart of Jersey The City rats run in big packs Deep in the heart of Jersey The Pizza man says, "I no understand" Deep in the heart of Jersey And Route 17, the traffic there is mean Deep in the heart of Jersey The city skies ain't fit for flies Deep in the heart of Jersey The Parkway man takes a quarter from your hand Deep in the heart of Jersey The dumps in June ain't like perfume Deep in the heart of Jersey But it's my state and I think it's great Deep in the heart of Jersey Way out west in wild New Jersey Yippi Yi Yay! You Know You're from New Jersey When... ...you recognize or can relate to at least 10 of these: * You've been seriously injured at Action Park. * You know that the only people who call it "Joisey" are from New York (usually The Bronx) or Texas. * You don't think of citrus when people mention "The Oranges." * You know that it's called "Great Adventure," not "Six Flags." * You've ordered a hard roll with butter for breakfast. * You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven. * You've eaten at a diner, when you were stoned or drunk, at 3 am. * Whenever you park, there's a Camaro within three spots of you. * You remember that the "Two Guys" were from Harrison. * You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery. * At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen, and you know what town Jon Bon Jovi is from. * You know what a "jug handle" is. * You know that a WaWa is a convenience store. * You know that the state isn't all farmland. * You know that there are no "beaches" in new Jersey - there's "The Shore," and you know that the road to the shore is "The Parkway" not "The Garden State Highway." * You know that "Piney" isn't referring to a tree. * Even your school cafeteria made good Italian subs, and, you call it a "sub" not a "submarine sandwich" or worse yet, a "hoagy" or a "hero." * You remember the song from the Palisades Park commercials. * You know how to properly negotiate a Circle. * You knew that the last question had to do with driving. * You know that "Acme" is an actual store, not just a Warner Bros creation. * You know that this is the only "New..." state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (like, try ...Mexico, ...York, ...Hampshire (doesn't work, does it?). * You know how to translate this conversation: "Jeet yet?" "No, Jew?" * You only go to New York City for day trips, and you only call it "The City." * You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast food chain AND a fast food sandwich. * You consider a corned beef sandwich with lettuce and mayo a sacrilege. * In the 80's you wore your hair REALLY high. * You don't think "What exit" (do you live near?) is very funny. * You know that the real first "strip shopping center" in the country is Route 22. * You know that people from 609 area code are "a little different." * You know that no respectable New Jerseyan goes to Princeton - that's for out-of-staters. * The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or local bar. * You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls. * You can see the Manhattan skyline from some part of your town. * You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers. * Every year, you had at least one kid in your class named Tony. * You know where every "clip" shown in the Sopranos opening credits is. * You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of Willowbrook Mall. * You've eaten a Boardwalk cheesesteak with vinegar fries. * You have a favorite Atlantic City casino. * You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February. * And finally... * You've never pumped your own gas. colforbinMD 03-06-2006, 03:23 PM Nice! I have a few quarrels but all in all it's a good list. You guys can't own these : * You've eaten at a diner, when you were stoned or drunk, at 3 am. (Anyone that's ever been to college anywhere) * You know that "Acme" is an actual store, not just a Warner Bros creation. (Acme's are all over the Mid atlantic) *You know that a WaWa is a convenience store. (Wawa too) * You know that the state isn't all farmland. (Sure, alot of it is trash dumps and highways) * You know how to properly negotiate a Circle. and * You knew that the last question had to do with driving. (Ever been to DC?) * You've eaten a Boardwalk cheesesteak with vinegar fries and * You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February. (Applies to all mid-atlantic beach areas) If you want one to claim for the Jersey shore how about: If you have ever shared your beach with washed up NYC medical waste. PS: All my life I have wanted to know... EctopicFetus 03-13-2006, 10:57 AM It says 7 unfilled programs but I dont know if that data is pre or post scramble! BKN 03-13-2006, 11:18 AM I thought last yr there were only 11 unfilled programs. BKN do you already know who you got? Or do you find out later as well? Fetus, NRMP site shows last year EM1 22/1188 unfilled and EM2 24/144 unfilled. I suspect that there were no unfilled after the scramble unless the programs wanted it that way. All the residencies get to know whether the filled on tuesday (at 1130?). You think I've got the one unfilled slot in the south? :scared: Nah  The residencies get their list on Wednesday noonish, but are prohibited from telling you. We get a list of those who we ranked and their matches on Monday. My congrats to everyone. Hope you got numero uno. Koko 03-13-2006, 11:48 AM Congrats to all. Nice to get this day behind us, eh? Going into late January with our new PD we were in serious danger of not matching a single resident....having interviewed only 18 people for the year. We only submitted 12 spots this year, which means we've matched at least 5 residents. If anyone who didn't match wants to come to Los Angeles, give us a call. http://www.mlkem.org/ JackBauERfan 03-13-2006, 03:14 PM 71 hours and counting till finality. Colforbin where you at?
