I am optimistic (how could I not be after spending close to 3000 bucks going to interviews and pissing off my current program) but I still dread Monday the 13th when I may get the "Sorry, you didn't match" Email.

I've got a backup plan tooo horrible to contemplate but I hope I don't have to implement it.

2006 Match Results Now Available

The results of the 2006 AOA Intern Resident Registration program (i.e. The Match) were released today, February 13, 2006. A total of 2,886 students sought internships this year and 1,196 students matched with an osteopathic internship program. Of those who matched, approximately 87% of them matched with their first choice. There were 123 students that were unmatched and an additional 1356 students who chose not to participate.

Something like that actually happened the year my undergrad switched to course requests being submitted online (it was this really complicated system that was supposed to make things fair for the underclassmen). They had to extend the deadline because too many people didn't have their lists in. I wouldn't count on the NRMP doing the same thing!!

FYI people.. I assume your school told you guys the same thing mine did.. dont wait to the last minute apparently the servers can get overwhelmed and well... you dont want to ruin your life.

My husband's AMCAS app was frozen for 3 weeks due to server "error" - lovely. Never underestimate the powers-that-be FORGETTING how many people actually apply every year! :D

I just got word that we were approved for expansion to 13 residents/year, although the hospital is only funding 12/year right now. I think we will only be accepting 11 in the match this year though.

Yeah, I think i'm set too, thinking about just going to barnes and noble and read stuff so I dont have the opportunity to change anything.....unless I take my laptop, hmmm.

yeah both of my computer-programming parents just shrugged their shoulders when i told them. I thought maybe there was some mysterious reason only known to those in-the-know. guess not. you think they're just being sadistic? maybe to increase grey hair #s?

So, who all has a big Match Day Extraveganza? We decorate up the main auditorium, dress up in costumes and perhaps embibe a few drinks in order to show up for the big announcement. Then, one person's name is announced, they come down, drop a dollar in a hat, pick the next person's name out of another hat and repeat until we all have envelopes... then we open at the same time (with the last person a little richer). Doesn't everyone do something fun. After all, it's the rest of our professional lives at stake!

About not being ready, I think it is all about expectations. If you knew you would submit your ROL and match a week later you would be prepared, trust me, you would be!

Unfortunately we don't have a big extravaganza... I am not sure if it is an osteopathic thing or not. Oddly, our school hardly acknowledges the match even though half of us are in it. The ones in the osteopathic match don't get much fanfare either. Come to think of it... when it comes to the match... we are a bunch of bores! :sleep: :sleep: :sleep: Sounds like you guys are going to have fun though :p

Uhh like they "checked" the urology match last yr. I heard a lot of people got royally screwed cause it is a super competetive specialty and people were told they matched that ended up not matching and vice versa and people also got reshuffled to different programs..

yeah they had to retract the initial urology match and run it again last year. I heard some of the top programs didn't even fill the first time which made no sense.

We all bumrush the mailboxes at noon and open our envelopes right away. Then we retire to a late lunch where we go up, drop a dollar, and announce our match results. Works pretty well and you don't have to wait with an un-opened envelop in your hand.

just look at the week in march that is around 10-20 and see what day is a Thursday, probably that day is match day. I'm flying back probably even though I'm doing an away rotation, but I heard some schools don't even let you schedule away rotations during march.

also, most interviews are done by Jan.30-Feb.4, so You should be done, since the programs will be done.

1) You can most def finish interviews by Jan 30th.
2) Its not a big deal to certify your ROL from Africa or anywhere else unless you need to speak to someone to get advice on placing your programs.
3) Match day is on a Thursday every yr (Usually close to the 16th).
4) I would be in "town" during match week, just in case you know...

Due to circumstance beyond our control we missed a day of countdown. As of today Feb 27 match days are 14/17 days away. Hope everyone is stayin sane.

Wow I didn't know there were student rotations in geriatrics. I didn't know a school could be so cruel.

Tell me about it! It's every bit as painful as it sounds. If you thought waiting around for the match was bad, imagine doing it while having to be on a geriatrics ward all day- YUCK!

My school is all about "geriatrics will be the biggest population you will be working with in your careers". Thank God most of the programs I applied to don't make you do medicine wards, much less geriatrics.

I am trying not to think about the time remaining and instead I am trying to float that mini-keg of Heineken in my fridge :) So far I'm just proving myself to be a lightweight in my old age. I hope the time is passing better for you. To make matters worse, I know I will match on match day, mostly because I ranked 15 EM programs and 3 FM programs begind them as worst case backups. Those 3 programs are back home and would be better to me than scrambling. I'm too old to go through this again. But what makes it bad is that I won't know on the 13th that I matched into EM. I won't know that until match day. But I have what I would call at least 4 "for sures" on my EM list...at least from what they told me. So that makes me feel better. But the bottom line is that I still have some 13 days left to think about my fate. Yikes.... :eek:

I am passing the time with a trip in Paris with my wife. Sometimes I worry sometimes I dont. I am choosing not to worry (easier said than done). I realise that this is all out of my control now. Clearly corpsman with interviews at the places you got you will match into Em, the real question is where and I think thats the real question for 95% of this board. Surely there are a few people who might not match into Em but for the most part we are in good shape. Clearly you have impressed enough people that you will be fine!

In the end I am passing my time traveling and when I get back to the Chi I have a buddy coming into town and then I will take my wife out to the Opera (she has been wanting to go since we got to chicago over 4 years ago). Then the week of match my school has a bunch of stuff planned for a group of us. Since I am a "class leader" and was selected to be a member of the Gold Humanism Honor society (as bugs bunny would say "he dont know me very well do he?")(Obviously selection had nothing to do with my posts on here) I have a bunch of committee type stuff to take care of. Thats how I am passing MY time.

I have a realtor in every one of my top 3 cities sending me houses to look at daily....plus a lender in each city as well. The emails are getting overwhelming and reminding me that I am only a couple of weeks away from buying a new house in a place I don't yet know where....This is also torture!

Def you should be sort of prepared to check out your top choices ASAP if you are buying. It can be hard to find a place you like esp if it is in a city where you DONT live.

I lived in NW Jersey until 17 y/o and can attest to the beauty of which you speak. NJ catches a bad rap because of Newark, Paterson, etc., but the state (especially the northern half) has seriously exclusive areas: Bedminster (U.S. Equestrian HQ), portions of Sussex (where I'm from)/Bergen counties, Livingston, Montclair, Bernardsville (Mike Tyson had a mansion/crashed his Beemer here), Princeton, Caldwell, and lots of places "down the shore." yeah i did that last month--it was called radiology. except i preferred to sleep at home and did just that. now i'm on a more busy rotation which i'm still not motivated for. so i guess it doesnt matter in the end, except for the sleeping in part.

For now I will let EF keep up with the hourly countdown. I will keep up my daily counting duties till the 24 hour countdown begins. Then with the help of my treo 650 I will attempt an unprecedented +pad+ creating hourly countdown from noon Sunday to noon monday and then again from 1pm Wed. to hour zero! Why you ask? Because I am that lame! My life IS that sad! I will of course need to sleep, if I can! I will be soliciting insomniacs for help during those hours.

Hang in there EF. I had been feeling cool, bordering on disinterested for some reason, until Friday. I ran into my advisor who had some positive conversations about me with a couple of pds recently. For some inexplicable reason I took that upbeat conversation and have been obsessing and entertaining more negative possibilities.

A little sleep helps.. but man i dont know whats wrong with me. Im gonna watch the Heat-Cavs today and hopefully take in some EtOH and that should improve my mood. The Sopranos tonite should be a great time! Looking forward to that for SURE!!

Can anyone tell me where to look once I log in tomorrow and on Thursday? Right now where it says "match status", it says in green "certified ROL". Can you tell me if this is the same place it will say "matched" tomorrow? And is this the same place it will say "where" on Thursday or do I need to look somewhere else? I'm actually glad I don't have to wait for some envelope!! I would be a mess then!

NRMP site shows last year EM1 22/1188 unfilled and EM2 24/144 unfilled. I suspect that there were no unfilled after the scramble unless the programs wanted it that way.

All the residencies get to know whether the filled on tuesday (at 1130?). You think I've got the one unfilled slot in the south? :scared: Nah :laugh:

The OCD hit me hard... Days it is. ;)

Only 7 unfilled spots is actually good news for MLK. Going into late January with our new PD we were in serious danger of not matching a single resident....having interviewed only 18 people for the year.

We only submitted 12 spots this year, which means we've matched at least 5 residents.

If anyone who didn't match wants to come to Los Angeles, give us a call.

C)I didn't forsake my countdown, I just happen to agree that it should be a daily count till 1PM on Wednesday

Yuck.. I dont like Tequila, but when forced I drink..

i didn't like tequila. until a ridiculous cancun trip 5 years ago when it was pouring out of the faucets seemed like; you get used to stuff pouring out of the faucet.

I liked tequila til I had too much of it.. then i stopped liking it.. yuck..

but tequila does make for a crazy entertaining drunk :D as opposed to a mellow teary or otherwise depressing one.

EM and Peds are the most stinking specialty.........both are difficult to get job

because of the renewed reimbursement systems , the Primary specialities like Im and FP are siphoning off, the already dry cofers of medicare and mdicaid.

Where do the EM docs get paid..........out of the pocket or the leftovers from the other specialities.

If you don't believe it, I would show u my pay stub........I would scan it in this thread.

34.8 hours remaining and I am having no luck sleeping. The waiting is almost unbearable at this point. I'd take an Ambien but I am worried I might end up sleep driving! (anyone see the latest stories on this?)

I almost feel like its so close I could just hold my freaking breath. My thoughts are cluttered with the idea that I won't be able to log in to NRMP because of the traffic, and will be left waiting until I get the damn contract in the mail!!

in one of your own posts you say that EM PA's are starting at 130-140k per year. so you think that PA's are earning more than the EM docs?

What I am talking about is in the city, you do get 200 plus if you go in the wilderness, 60 hours per week.

but in NY city or LA city, 100 plus is almost impossible,
