My last choice, assuming I dont match anesthesiology, is to match at the preliminary medicine year near home that I have ranked on my sublists also. Do I just rank this as my 15th 'choice' or so on the ROL? The only reason I ask is because it would be a prelim year without anything attached.

the answer is yes. you could place it anywhere on your rank list and have it stand alone as a viable, though only one-year, matching option.

If you match to the prelim only - Then you can't scramble for any 4 year positions that might be open! I am going back and forth about listing a prelim also - but I just can't decide if I want to do it.

Hey Guys,
If you ended up matching with your prelim, you can only scramble for advanced positions but not for categorical ones. I talked with the ERAS people and that's what they told me.
Good luck!!! :D

Thats a good point. Hopefully it wont come to this, but I guess we all need to be prepared

I agree, hopefully things are gonna work out well, but it is always good to have a second plan in mind.

Well, I have to put my home school surg-prelim program on the list. I do not want to go unmatched or have to scramble into a shaddy surg-prelim prgram. I mean, it is not like there will be many unfilled gas spots for scrambling anyway.

dude if you don't match I'll sacrafice myself to some pegan god. in return you should be able to see a perfect rainbow every 3rd sunday of the month. Now thats some good rainbowen!
Now, off for BLACK N TANS early cause its on call tomorrow....and the liver transplant guys are on a roll. Calcium, drippy poos, swans, paddles, lines, svo2's, cis, iso, abg after abg, blood blood bloooooooooooooood blooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood effffffffffffefffffffffffffffffpeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
So am I screwed geographically if I match an advanced program but have to scramble for pgy-1 if I can't know where I'm going until thursday? I'm ranking programs all over the country, and fear that I'm just going to have to guess and pray.

I think there was a thread about this earlier, but I can't track it down at the moment. Essentially, the concensus was that if you match anesthesia but don't get a prelim spot, you will likely be told the geographic area of the anesthesia program (but not the particular program) to which you matched. Then you can participate in the scramble on time and try to find a spot in that area. My advice would be to contact your med school advisory dean to see if this is the case.
