I was a Navy Optician for 10 yrs and left the service 1 1/2 yrs ago. I finished most of my pre-req and college credits while I was on active duty. It was hard serving full time while taking college courses. I took the OAT two days ago and I scored miserably. I thould have taken an OAT prep course. Should I even complete my application to SCCO with my credentials below?
BS: Health Care Administration - May 2006
Overall GPA: 3.0 last 60 credits: 3.75
Pre-req GPA: 3.2
OAT: TS - 270 AA-280
LORs: 2 from Navy Optometrists (1 is an SCCO adjunct faculty), 1 from chair of the HCA program.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I would.. your GPA is good. You always apply, study, and retake the OAT. The OAT score is going to be the only weak part of your application. The military experience and the LORs will be major pluses (as will finishing school while in the Navy)
You could either take an OAT prep course, or buy some Kaplan and Lippincott books and study on your own at home. (you have to be very diciplined to do that latter)
Good luck and keep us posted ! :luck:
definitely go for it. anything dealing with patriotism can only work to your advantage =)
it's weird, i think im going to apply to scco soon too even tho it's so late in the application process. i've been accepted to osu and have never even considered venturing out of state until a couple days ago but i think im going to go with my gut. you should too if that's this is what you really want to do :)

cpw,
Thanks for the input. I will work on my admission essays this weekend and get my application out in the next two weeks. If I don't get accepted this year, I will definately take your advice: always apply, study, and retake the OAT.

hviz,
Congratulations on your acceptance to OSU. You should apply to SCCO too if you want to venture out of state. I reside about 40 miles from Pacific but I prefer SCCO. I was born and raised in the Philippines and I miss the sunny and warm weather.
Thanks for your input.

This way.. even if you don't get in this year.... they know you're serious about being an OD when they see you apply again.
