View Full Version : UCSD decisions?
Bluntman 03-06-2006, 12:55 PM Anyone know what day they're gonna make all the calls on?
Dr. Insel said they were going to have all the decisions made by last Thursday (3/3) and that they would let us know sometime this week if we were accepted. Anyone have anything more precise than that? :scared:
kgboy 03-06-2006, 08:20 PM I dropped by the MSTP office today and the admissions lady told me that acceptance notifications will be emailed out tomorrow(Tuesday). :scared:
Good luck.
...btw I'm a bioengineering major too. Maybe we might have had classes together?
Bluntman 03-07-2006, 10:32 AM Daaaamn...that means today's the day. Hopefully there'll be good news all around!
I graduated '05, so not sure if we'd know each other or not...my name is John Colby if you want to facebook that ish tho. :)
jpark27 03-07-2006, 08:09 PM I got a waitlist email from UCSD MSTP today. The email said that they would snailmail a hardcopy tomorrow.
Good luck!
kgboy 03-08-2006, 02:59 AM Wow I'm surprised UCSD waitlisted someone like you. It kinda shows how much of a crapshoot this process is.
I got a rejection email from my own school...ouch. If I'm not accepted by California schools, I really might have to live in the midwest for 8 years. It's scary to think about it.
lundysd 03-08-2006, 05:22 AM I also got the waitlist email yesterday :( Suprising too, since UCSD was where I felt I interviewed the best. Meh we'll see what happens
soccerteez 03-08-2006, 11:04 AM On the waitlist as well. Does anyone know how many students they accepted? Since all 16 of their acceptances last year matriculated, perhaps they only accepted as many as they have slots for. Did anyone here actually get in?
gomezemog 03-08-2006, 11:11 AM Flat out rejection here.
cadilakgrl 03-08-2006, 11:39 AM Rejection too... :( So weird I also thought it was one of my best interviews.
jpark27 03-08-2006, 11:57 AM They did say that they would be accepting only as many students as had slots for this year (some number between 7-16 - they hadn't decided as of my speaking to them, which was during my UCSD MSTP interview day). They would then take people off the waitlist one by one when already accepted students withdrew to go to other schools.
This is a change for them from previous years, but not too different from how a number of other MSTPs operate.
Good luck all.

Bluntman 03-08-2006, 12:06 PM Straight rejection here too. I love how my email instructed me to check the attached file for my admissions decision...so I glance at the attachment bar and the file is titled "Reject - Colby"!!! Ouch that's harsh!
JayQuah 03-08-2006, 12:12 PM Straight rejection here too. I love how my email instructed me to check the attached file for my admissions decision...so I glance at the attachment bar and the file is titled "Reject - Colby"!!! Ouch that's harsh!
They're idiots out there at UCSD. They lost a good man. Keep chuggin, Bluntman.

I know! When I saw the attachment title I was like damn that is harsh!
kbear77 03-09-2006, 02:11 PM For us waitlisters - if we call/email will they let us know where we are ranked on the list? I can't remember what they said at the interview.
Thanks!
soccerteez 03-09-2006, 03:24 PM Yes I called on Tuesday, and they will tell you where you are on the waitlist. If you do call, would you mind asking when they set their deadline for students to reply? It slipped my mind when I called  It's more than likely May 15th, but who knows.
SeventhSon 03-09-2006, 09:59 PM rejection here too.... hooray! I thought my interviews went well too.
damn, nobody on SDN has posted an acceptance yet... i wonder how many they ended up accepting. I would think since 16 matriculated last year they would have to end up with a class under 10 to help fund the crazy big class.
Dr.Dr. 03-09-2006, 10:21 PM Geez, what is going on?
kbear77 03-10-2006, 01:10 PM hey soccerteez - I called today and the deadline is May 15
soccerteez 03-10-2006, 03:39 PM hey soccerteez - I called today and the deadline is May 15
thank you kbear. here's hoping those accepted are able to make their decisions in timely manner.
Newquagmire 03-11-2006, 09:07 PM i wonder how many they ended up accepting.
9
SeventhSon 03-11-2006, 11:21 PM 9
hahaha, that will be an exciting second look! I will be interested in knowing how many of those 9 matriculate :)

i'm interested in finding out what the acceptance numbers are like around the country. i hear a lot of schools had relatively large entering classes last cycle...

still though.... ucla 30, yale 20, UW ~25, columbia ~30, ucsd 9?
I can kind of understand though... a 16 person class is ridiculous and there's no way they would want to take the cahnce of that happening again... but someone suggested that last year there were 16 acceptances sent and all 16 matriculated? That doesn't seem possible to me.
Newquagmire 03-13-2006, 07:29 PM still though.... ucla 30, yale 20, UW ~25, columbia ~30
really? any idea what their matric numbers were like for last cycle?
SeventhSon 03-13-2006, 09:20 PM UCLA: program coordinator told us roughly 30/70 would be accepted.
A first-year told me that 8 matriculated last year.
Yale: website says 20/70 will be accepted, a first-year student at yale said that 9 matriculated.
UW: Director gave a presentation that showed 27/42 were accepted last year, i forget how many matriculated, i think 11 or 12.
Columbia: Director Shelanski told us "about half interviewed will be accepted" and 70 were interviewed. Don't remember how many in their first-year class.

That's what they told us at my UCSD interview. It does seem quite amazing. Here's hoping it doesn't happen again this year for all of us on the waitlist.

as far as i know, these matric numbers are more "average" for these programs. it's been said that some other programs (e.g. washu 30, baylor 20 - although now that i look at the latter's website it doesn't seem true) also had abnormally elevated matrics last cycle.
soccerteez 03-21-2006, 03:32 PM Just thought some of you might like to know that of the 9 applicants accepted to UCSD, no one has replied one way or another. Also, revisit weekend is April 20-22.
