It's hard to give you any advice without knowing what you want to do? working at home or abroad w/ "relief" organizations...that's a pretty vague description of your interests. both are fairly strong internationally though. fromflordia 03-14-2006, 08:24 AM Well the thing is that I'm not sure exactly what I want to do. I have talked with a professor at GWU about Public-Privite partnerships and best practices. Sounds intresting. Haven't talked to anyone yet at BU-just got accepted three days ago. Right now I'm just one of those "I want to change the world" kind of guys. Thanks for any advice. EMApplicant 03-14-2006, 11:46 AM Well the thing is that I'm not sure exactly what I want to do. I think that, in general, this is a good reason for people to try and get some real-world experience prior to doing an MPH so that they can form more of an idea as to what interests them prior to starting. Soap-box aside, both are probably more or less equivalently good programs. Without a better idea of what interests you, i'd start by looking at cost, location, course listings, program details, etc and see if one sparks your interest more than the other. Does one offer better international exposure, etc? Only you can decide which is best for you. fromflordia 03-15-2006, 07:31 AM Anyone in either of those programs? mhcranberry 03-18-2006, 01:12 PM Hey-- I'm currently a part-time student at BUSPH... I highly recommend it. I have been very impressed with the quality of the professors, who are responsive and available and experienced. Generally, its a very activist curriculum compared to others I've looked at. If you have more specific questions, please don't hesitate to email me. yours, M fromflordia 03-18-2006, 10:58 PM Are most of the classes in the evening? Im going for a visit on tuesday, is there anything else i should know? What concentration are you in? is the medical campus close to BU's main campus? how expensive are apartments? thanks for any help, i tried to email you but it wouldnt let me see your address publichealth06 03-22-2006, 10:28 AM I'm trying to decide between studying international health at BU or at Columbia. Right now I'm leaning towards Columbia, but I keep switching back and forth. More info on BU would be really helpful if anyone out there has an insider's view. fromflordia 03-26-2006, 09:25 AM I just got back from a visit to BU and loved it. The program advisor and the faculty i met were amazing. Everybody was so nice and really made me feel at home. Boston was fun and the school was nice. jkruh 03-26-2006, 02:52 PM I don't know anyone personally that has gone through GW's program, but it is my understanding that this is a fairly young program. I do know someone who went to BU for international health and simply loved it. The university is really well connected with organizations abroad, and Boston has a lot of organizations that do international work. I would search around (or ask, if you have contacts at these places) about internship and job placements overseas. basten0 04-02-2006, 03:18 PM What I really liked about BU when I was researching public health schools' websites was that they seemed so friendly. I felt like they wanted to know me before I had even sent them an application or anything. It seemed like people there were really accessible. johndoe1978 04-05-2006, 03:43 PM Similar situation mate... I would like to pursue a md following mph. i am accepted to gw and i must say their department head is absolutely fantastic. i suggest u perform a google search on his name (Arthur Hayashi)... liberation medication etc... in terms of "competitiveness" well i would suggest looking at academic credentials etc... and u will see a general consensus between most if not all schools... eg i would advise finding the school that for lack of better words "feels right". nonetheless, in considering points of contact, location, and professional growth our nations capital would be quite hard to beat. feel free to email me. cheers, joey1078@hotmail.com johndoe1978 04-05-2006, 03:44 PM similar situation mate... i would like to pursue a md following mph. i am accepted to gw and i must say their department head is absolutely fantastic. i suggest u perform a google search on his name (Arthur Hayashi)... liberation medication etc... in terms of "competitiveness" well i would suggest looking at academic credentials etc... and u will see a general consensus between most if not all schools... eg i would advise finding the school that for lack of better words "feels right". nonetheless, in considering points of contact, location, and professional growth our nations capital would be quite hard to beat. feel free to email me. cheers, joey1078@hotmail.com |
