I just found out that I have been accepted. MaybeCO2010 04-01-2006, 12:41 PM I just found out that I have been accepted. CONGRATULATIONS!!  I also got accepted into Howard!!!!! :D :D So do you plan to attend or are you waiting to hear from other schools? Kyra 04-01-2006, 05:08 PM Congratulations to you both. Tell me where did you do your pre-req's? What was your GPA? PCAT Scores? highlyfavored 04-01-2006, 05:41 PM I just found out that I have been accepted. Congrats! I'm so glad things worked out for you! :D mph2pharm 04-01-2006, 09:38 PM Thanks highlyfavored...your encouraging posts have kept me "encouraged" throughout this stressful process. Congrats MaybeCO2010 :D ...I am not sure whether or not I will accept. I still have some concerns as you can imagine. What about you? I guess Friday was a good day for me because I only applied to two schools this year and I was accepted to one (Howard) and was offered an interview at the other...all on Friday afternoon! I have decided to go on the other interview and see what happens. Kyra...I will get back to you on the stats...don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head. Fatpharm 04-02-2006, 03:22 PM Didn't Howard lose their accredidation? Glycerin 04-02-2006, 04:15 PM Didn't Howard lose their accredidation? No, they are on probation until their next site visit. MaybeCO2010 04-02-2006, 05:49 PM Congrats MaybeCO2010 :D ...I am not sure whether or not I will accept. I still have some concerns as you can imagine. What about you? I have been accepted to Nova. So I will be attending there. If Howard wasn't on probation then I might consider it an option but I was disappointed to hear such news. So you heard from Creighton? I am also an alternate there so it would be awesome to be interviewed!! mph2pharm 04-03-2006, 05:52 AM I have been accepted to Nova. So I will be attending there. I am also an alternate there so it would be awesome to be interviewed!! Hey MaybeCO2010 Congratulations on your acceptance to Nova and Howard! Regardless of the current situation, I still believe that Howard is a good school but I can certainly understand why you would choose Nova at this point. Good luck at Nova! ang136 04-04-2006, 09:05 PM Hey MaybeCO2010 Congratulations on your acceptance to Nova and Howard! Regardless of the current situation, I still believe that Howard is a good school but I can certainly understand why you would choose Nova at this point. Good luck at Nova! Hi. I, too, am waiting to hear from Howard. Could you tell me how you were notified of your acceptance? mph2pharm 04-05-2006, 07:57 AM Hi. I, too, am waiting to hear from Howard. Could you tell me how you were notified of your acceptance? Hi ang136, They called and left a message for me on last Friday. In the message they said that an official acceptance letter was being sent out that same day. When did you interview? ang136 04-05-2006, 08:51 AM Hi ang136, They called and left a message for me on last Friday. In the message they said that an official acceptance letter was being sent out that same day. When did you interview? feb. 15 mph2pharm 04-05-2006, 09:38 AM I interviewed on February 8th so I am pretty sure that at this point they are making decisions on both the Feb. 8th and Feb. 15th candidates. I also heard that they just did another round of interviews about a week ago so you should hear somthing soon. Have you been accepted anywhere else so far or is Howard your top choice? ang136 04-05-2006, 11:00 AM I interviewed on February 8th so I am pretty sure that at this point they are making decisions on both the Feb. 8th and Feb. 15th candidates. I also heard that they just did another round of interviews about a week ago so you should hear somthing soon. Have you been accepted anywhere else so far or is Howard your top choice? I interviewed at MWU-CCP and received one of those purgatory letters from MWU-Glendale (no interview date but maybe). So far Howard is the one in the running, but given the present situation I might pass and wait for next year. Kinda bummed, but there's still hope right? Are you going? RLK 04-05-2006, 12:06 PM No, they are on probation until their next site visit. What are they on probation for? I'm suprised that isn't a little discouraging to the applicants...or maybe it is. mph2pharm 04-05-2006, 12:53 PM I interviewed at MWU-CCP and received one of those purgatory letters from MWU-Glendale (no interview date but maybe). So far Howard is the one in the running, but given the present situation I might pass and wait for next year. Kinda bummed, but there's still hope right? Are you going? Well I can certainly understand your apprehension. So far Howard is my only acceptance but I only applied to two school (I have an interview with the other school on Friday). I guess if I don't get into the other school which is my top choice at this point then I will also have some decisions to make. I have thought about waiting out this year and seeing what happens with the probation situation but I really want to go ahead and get into and out of school as soon as possible. I seriously doubt that they will lose their accredidation but nothing is 100%. I am leaning towards going for the fall if I am not accepted at my top choice. RLK: there is a prevoius post regarding Howard's probation situation that includes a link to an article published in Howard's campus newspaper regarding the matter. Sorry that I can't put my finger on it right now. ang136 04-05-2006, 08:43 PM Did any Feb. 15 interviewees recieve a response yet? lola69r 04-05-2006, 08:51 PM I interviewed on Feb 15 and got accepted as well...I got a voicemail from them saying they would send a letter out as well, but I haven't received that yet...has anyone received their letters as of yet? Congrats to everyone that got in so far....I got into another school as well, so I'm trying to decide if Howard is where I should go...did you interview on the 15th as well? ang136 04-05-2006, 09:03 PM I interviewed on Feb 15 and got accepted as well...I got a voicemail from them saying they would send a letter out as well, but I haven't received that yet...has anyone received their letters as of yet? Congrats to everyone that got in so far....I got into another school as well, so I'm trying to decide if Howard is where I should go...did you interview on the 15th as well? yeah but i guess if i haven't heard then the letter in the mail is a negative one. thanks for your response though! now i won't have to worry anymore. MaybeCO2010 04-05-2006, 09:12 PM I also interviewed on the 15th. I have not yet received the packet that they were going to mail out. Hey lola69r, when did they call you? I'm sure it's gonna come sooner or later. oh, btw, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!  lola69r 04-05-2006, 10:05 PM They called me on the 30th....I'm awful about checking my voicemails so I just got the message today. Hopefully he returns my call tomorrow and I'll ask him if they have sent out the letters yet. Congrats to you too!!! comet81 04-07-2006, 03:52 PM I saw some of the post and realized that some already got acceptance letter from howard. For those who got acceptance letter already, when did you apply? I applied around december but I have not heard anything from them. Is April their last month considering interview? mph2pharm 04-08-2006, 05:12 PM I received my acceptance voicemail message over a week ago and was told that a letter was being sent out that same day. I have yet to receive a letter and I am local to the area so I should have definitely received something if it was actually sent out when they said it was. Lola69r....congrats on your acceptance to two schools! It seems like you are still seriously considering Howard...I am just wondering what will make you choose Howard with its current probationary status over a school whose accredidation is not in jeopardy. I just came back from interviewing at another school and if I get in I will more than likely choose that school even though it is way more expensive. I am just afraid to take that risk if I have a choice. comet81...I know of one person who has interviewed with Howard within the past two weeks so it seems like they are still inteviewing. If you have heard absolutely nothing from them since turning in your application in December then I would definitely call them (although they are really not great at returning phone calls  ). comet81 04-08-2006, 08:29 PM I received my acceptance voicemail message over a week ago and was told that a letter was being sent out that same day. Do you think I have chance to get into howard with this stat? Hi comet81, I have learned through this process that there is really no set rhyme nor reason to how different schools are deciding who gets interviews and who gets accepted. There are folks on this board with your same stats or higher who still haven't received an acceptance or even an interview. I do think that your stats are good...especially the PCAT so I am quite surprised that you haven't heard anything from Howard. Are you sure that they even received your application? I am starting to wonder whether or not your application materials were misplaced. I looked back at my email and Howard sent an email out to all candidates on January 30th. The email was entitled, "Howard University Deadlines & Helpful Hints." The email discussed the different deadlines for the program and provided other admissions-related information. If you didn't receive this email then I definitely think that something fishy happened with your application. I am so sorry that you haven't been able to talk to anyone. I have pretty much given up on receiving a return phone call or email from them. I just really wish that they were a litttle more professional about certain things. The only thing I can say is to keep trying. Good luck! :luck: mph2pharm 04-10-2006, 09:34 AM mph2pharm…I've always like Howard, and there is so much opportunity in that area...I don't doubt that they will get full accredidation back, however like you, I am afraid to take that risk...more than likely I will end up staying in Florida and attending school here, its a lot cheaper after all, and their accredidation is not in jeopardy as you said...I'm sure you did great in your recent interview, and hope that you get accepted there...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you as well :) Hi Lola, I know what you mean about Howard. I was soooo excited about Howard when I first started investigating different pharmacy schools. Howard has been a fixture in my family (several family members/friends are Howard grads). I too do not doubt that they will get back their full accredidation back but if I do have a choice, I think that I will be going elsewhere. I only applied to two schools and the other school I interviewed at is really competitive so I am trying to be realistic about the fact that I may not get in and that I may be looking at Howard as my only option. I really want to go into this with a positive attitude but there are quite a few things that have disappointed me...namely the probation status and the difficulty communicating with the admissions office. :( It seems like you are leaning towards staying in Florida and I can definitely understand that given that the other school is less expensive and it has its full accredidation. Maybe you can come up to the D.C. area for a residency? I am a little disappointed because it seems like everyone who originally had Howard as a top choice is choosing to go somewhere else...but again I can understand. Good luck to you too! v482599 04-10-2006, 10:51 AM congrat to all those who applied and have been accepted. has anyone got thier package yet from howard? i have not even bothered calling cause they will not pick up but was wondering since i have not gotten anything in mail. need to start working on fafsa as well.........has anyone started already? thanks Hi Lola, I know what you mean about Howard. I have already finished my fafsa and sent it off since some of the other schools I interviewed at had a priority deadline of March 15th. mph2pharm 04-10-2006, 11:47 AM I seems like the consensus is that nobody who has been accepted (verbally) has received anything written yet. I completed my FAFSA on January 31st so hopefully I am straight with that. v482599...I think I remember you from a previous post...so you got in? Congrats! Are you going to accept? It is getting to be pretty late so you should definintely fill out the FAFSA ASAP. I remember reading something about the fact that financial aid at Howard is limited and is distributed on a first come first served basis. Maybe I misread something but I would go ahead and fill it out soon just to be safe. v482599 04-10-2006, 02:29 PM thanks mph2pharm and yap i did get in............. I will go ahead and do my fafsa tonite then.............i have been dragging and procrastinating....thanks u'all. that was the only school i applied so defintely i am game. I know for sure they cannot afford to loose accreditation..but then again we put it all in the hands of the lord who makes all things happened Later then I seems like the consensus is that nobody who has been accepted (verbally) has received anything written yet. The only thing I can say is to keep trying. Good luck! :luck: Hello, mph2pharm Thanks for encouraging me. Actually, I received the email 'Howard University Deadlines & Helpful Hints' . So, they have my applications. My concern is that I only had one interview (Hampton)so far even thou I applied 6 schools. Other school's application process is pretty much in end. But, howard started interview on April. I know there were some interviews on Feb but that was before they were on probation status. They had done nothing during March. I am hoping they contact me soon. mph2pharm 04-11-2006, 07:26 AM Did any of you guys do your pre-reqs at Howard? I haven't heard any current Howard students voice an opinion. I would like to hear from them. I didn't do my pre-reqs at Howard but I have heard that students are pretty upset by the situation. Actually the article in the Hilltop (HU campus newspaper) talks about how some students were crying demanding answers from the president and other officials, for the situation and why things were not addressed sooner (the article leads you to believe that the school received warning about the potential of being placed on probation). Some of the students, according to the article, were also not pleased with the answers they were given by the administration for how things were going to be fixed in order to get back the full accredidation status. I think that there are two articles in the Hilltop concerning the situation. You can retrieve the Hilltop articles on the web. I definintely do not blame these students for being very upset. Think about it...some of these students will be going into their junior and senior year so it is not like they can easily transfer somewhere else if the unforseen happens and Howard loses its accredidation (which again, I don't think will happen). They will then be faced with having to graduate from a school that is not accredited. comet81 04-12-2006, 08:39 PM Does anyone know what date is the last date for inviting interview? They are still not answering calls, and my acceptance letter is saying its a conditional acceptance pending completion of a 4 credit calculus and a 5 credit physics II....(which I took in the fall and they have grades for because we had to bring a copy of our transcript for the interview) my physics was a 3 credit lecture and a 1 credit lab...and I had a 5 credit calculus course...more than likely I'll stay in Florida but I'd still like them to get things correct...any word from the other school you interviewed at? I have tried to call and email in order to straighten this out but of course no one will return my calls or emails. This entire process with Howard has been extremely disappointing. You cannot imagine how many times I called them to check my status. I called them more than 10 times and even left message. They still haven't returned my call and email. They don't even know how to be professional!! I guess that's why they are on probation. HotnSunnyDr 05-01-2006, 11:30 AM As you said, I also have lost hope about Howard. You cannot imagine how many times I called them to check my status. I called them more than 10 times and even left message. They still haven't returned my call and email. They don't even know how to be professional!! I guess that's why they are on probation. The administration at Howard is the worst part about the school. They let the phones ring while they are talking to their significant other on their cell phone, or they will make you wait in line while laughing with each other across the cubicles. I have many friends that go to Howard and they all complain about the administration. A friend of mine had her transcript switched with someone elses! They really don't care. I have heard that most of the professors are pretty good, but it's the lack of organization amongst other things of course that is killing them. I still applied to Howard despite all that b/c its only about 1/2 an hr away from me, but after hearing about the accreditation problem in February from a good friend of mine that attends the school, I mentally crossed it off my list. He is a P1 and is really frightened for the future of the school since its the second time in 5 years for the SOP to be on probation. He advised me to concentrate on other schools. cherryblo 05-27-2006, 11:05 AM How many people have been accepted to Howard? Does anyone know? I was told at the interview that they will be accepting 50 - 60 students...but like 40 people showed up for the interview on May 17th! Has anyone gotten a rejection or acceptance letter yet? comet81 05-27-2006, 08:53 PM was May 17th interview was the last one? cherryblo 05-27-2006, 10:09 PM I have not yet heard of any others...but the email that Howard sent to everyone said that they are still reviewing applications and are still interviewing, but everything else on the email was wrong (like take pcat in 01/2006 and pharmcas updates) so this might be as well. Has anyone recieved an interview after the 17th of May? |
