hey everyone,
i got accepted into Ferris State Univ - pharm.
can anyone tell me more about this school? i checked their website & got very little info about this school.
if it's possible, please tell me more about their:
1) courseload: heavy, doable, crazy?
2) student population. (i'm asian, so i'm hoping to have some asian friends that i could connect. :))
3) teachers: nice & good?
4) social life: if any?
5) living on campus: what's it like? is the dorm very close to the pharm school & dining hall?
6) big rapids: big or small city? fun city to live or very gloomy and small?
7) transportation: car not needed if live on campus?
Thanks, everyone! :) :)

One of my preceptors went to Ferris State. He said that it was a pure clinical program and the curriculum was difficult, but he was glad he went there. I don't know anything else.

A pharmacist I work with just graduated from Ferris last May. I cant answer every one of your questions, but she did say that Ferris has no social life what-so-ever. She said all there is to do is study and go to the bar. Its not a very big/nice city. The campus is relatively small for a public university. If its your only choice, obviously GO!, but if you get other offers, its definitely worth the trip to check out the campus for yourself if your going to invest 4 years there. I personally chose not to apply there because Ive known a few graduates from there, and as a result I dont think highly of the program.

karariki,
I just got accepted to Ferris too & have many of the same concerns that you have. Here's what I've been able to find:
coarse load: 16-18 hr/sem, with option of 3.5 or 4 year plan
*actual coarse schedule is posted at:
http://www.ferris.edu/colleges/pharmacy/admissions/P1BlockSchedule06-07.pdf
demographics of FSU:
Ferris Student Characteristics
6,153 men
5,649 women
755 African American
150 Latino
98 Native American/Native Alaskan
203 Asian/Pacific Islander (--->plus me ;) )
9,156 Caucasian
239 international students from more than 50 countries
Should be lots of dorms close to pharm building/dining, just check FSU's website for details.
From what I gather, Big Rapids is a small rural city (pop. 10,852). Grand Rapids, one of Michigan's large cities, is an hour away.
Also, just an fyi if anyone's wondering:
Current Naplex passing rate: 90-95% [edit: I forgot to mention that R.Larson said it was 100% in a recent quarter]
Current Attrition rate: 4%
(Ron Larson, Asst. Dean, provided this info)
Hope this helps some! And hope I'll see you at Ferris :)

Ferris State is the perfect place to focus on what you went there for, to graduate from pharmacy school. By far not a party school, but I've seen a lot of pharmacy students fall by the wayside due to some of the available distractions at party schools.

It is a very small city and small campus. If you are coming from a larger school than it will be a shock. They have more than one restaurant, a lot of fast food. There is not much around the city itself, mostly fields. The town is pretty much a small strip of shops with a 4 screen movie theatre. It is an hour away from grand rapids which has a lot to do. Put it this way, you'll get a lot of studying done because there is NOTHING else to do! unless you like watching division 3 football.....

I've lived in Michigan my entire life so I know most of it pretty good. The west side of the state is definetly the conservative boring side. Lots of farm land with very little to do. But remember life is what you make of it.
