View Full Version : PGY-2 Opening Anywhere?
Hey guys, congrats to all of you who matched. Thats awesome.
Anyhow, so i wasn't interested in internal medicine till i did my prelim year. Now that Ive done it and gotten exposed to more I really want to stay in internal medicine. The thing is, i'd like to be somewhere else for my PGY-2 year than at my current program: not because my program is in any way bad at all, but just that I would like to be in a more academic setting and I prefer living in a more city atmosphere. Anyhow, if any of you guys who are on this site know of any potential openings in the PGY-2 class for this upcoming year starting july2006, i'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks

I am afraid you might be a little bit too late... I knew there were positions open in University of Iowa, Cornell, USCD, University of MInnesota and University of MIami, but this was in december/january and I assume they might be filled as of now.
You might want to pick up the phone and call programs' secretaries or email them...
Good luck

manning18 04-05-2006, 01:35 PM A friend of mine is a Prelim and picked up a PGY-2 spot at George Washington University, to start in 2006. He notified me regarding this in January of 2006. I am not sure if they had more than one open spot, but it might be worth looking into. I would agree with the strategy of getting on the internet and phone and contacting as many programs as possible. Find-A-Resident might be worth the investment. Good luck!
manning18 04-05-2006, 01:36 PM I have heard through the grapevine that Norwalk Hospital (CT) has a history of "terminating the employment" of some of its weaker-performing PGY-1s in the Medicine Department. Maybe you can inquire there!
hey thanks guys for the advice...yeah im just looking...it was weird because everyone i called in december / january told me to check back later...and I must have horrible luck because no matter who I call or when, they just tell me they dont have any available spots...im still looking and hoping someone replies.
And yeah GW didnt have any more spots. I started talking to them but then this resident who said he was leaving changed his mind and decided to stay so that was unfortunate.
Jason26 04-17-2006, 04:01 PM Long Island Jewish medical center has 2 PGY-2 openings for July 2006 if one or more of them isn't filled by now.

manning18 04-17-2006, 10:24 PM Here is the listing from findaresident.com One would have to subscribe for more detailed information, but it seems as though there are some PGY-2 spots, still available. Subscribing should be worth the cost. Good luck!
