View Full Version : Kaplan FLs
Sol Rosenberg 04-05-2006, 02:45 PM For those of you that have taken all 11 Kaplan FL exams, what are your opinions on how they compare to the real thing/AAMC exams as the numbers get higher? I guess what I am asking is whether the later ones (like 10, and 11, for example) are more like the real thing than the earlier ones? I don't think I'm going to have the time to do them all in the next 2.5 weeks, so if some are more realistic than the others, I'll do those. I've done 1-4 already.
Thanks
J
Ugly Boy 04-05-2006, 06:16 PM 10 & 11 have 10 passages in verbal, this threw off my timing. Same goes for the BS & PS. I'd do the BS and bypass the PS. The verbal didn't feel MCAT-like either.

Thanks. That was my impression as well -- I was just wondering if the later ones were more realistic, but it looks like they aren't.
Thanks,

I just took the Kaplan 10. I have the answeres but i don't have the scale. Do you think you can post it or pm it to me.
Thanks

Ugly Boy 04-10-2006, 07:30 PM the scales are not yet developed for 10 & 11
My kaplan administrator has said on several occasions that the Kaplan tests are actual old AAMC released problems mixed up in diff order. So...the kaplan tests are AAMC tests. I think she's full of it as I've taken 4 of the AAMC tests and 3 of the Kaplan tests and haven't seen a single dupe. Generally the Kaplan tests I've taken (1,2,3,4) seem easier than the AAMC ones but not by far.
Can anyone confirm this?

Interesting, I've found the Kaplan Tests to be Harder. Granted I've taken 3R and 9 only, but Kaplan 3 and 4 were tougher tests for me.
GujuMD 04-11-2006, 08:18 AM I have taken several AAMC and Kaplan test. it seems like the test is easier for the AAMC than Kaplan. I get more questions wrong in Kaplan, but the scale for Kaplan is more generous, so in the end, my score seems to be about the same for Kaplan and AAMC.

Yeah, I second that kpatel. I think Kaplan is definitely harder than AAMC, but scaled scores turn out about the same. For a confidence boost in the last 1.5 weeks, I'm just sticking with AAMC from here on out...

This is actually semi-true. I've done everything for Kaplan. Topicals, subject tests, discretes, full-lengths, the whole 9 yards. What i've found is that certain passages are extremely similar to those found on the AAMC practice material as well as the AAMC exams. They are not verbatim, but sometimes they will use a really similar passage and ask slightly similar questions or something along those lines.

You are hardcore. I originally intended to finish all their stuff too but it is just too much! If you use tests from Princeton & Kaplan, you'll notice that some passages are similar in content to AAMC's- especially AAMC 3. Fortunately, the questions are drastically different in many cases.
