so this is a serious question for medical people. not sure which forum it belongs to. if you had a heart attack and went into the emergency room, and they wanted to guiaiac you before anticoagulation, would you guaiac yourself if you had the option? i think i would, thanks very much. and i'd rather foley myself and NG lavage myself. assuming the above 3 procedures don't worsen chest pain and i'm not in cardiogenic shock, of course. oh i forgot GC/chlamydia swab, i'd do it myself. not that i've ever had that done, you understand.

i wouldn't put a central line in myself or do an LP since you can't see the landmarks. i might do my own paracentesis. simple sutures too, if on an accessible non-face area and no surgeons are around. what about you guys?

If the guiac is positive would I decline the anticoagulation for my MI? I doubt it. So why does it need to be done?

I would definitely foley myself.

P.diddy you should probably just get empiric tx for GC/Chlamydia given the high degree of suspicion.

oh i agree i would start the IIb/IIIa even if i were shtting blood. my question was more about whether you'd perform it yourself; change the situation to fecal occult blood if you like. plus ER docs seem to like the procedure a little too much, if you know what i mean...

and i've treated myself empirically with IM CTX so many times i've got scar tissue on my ass. do you know if you can place an antibiotic insert inside the peenis for prophylaxis against STDs? at the very least they should have combos like an azithro/ctx injection for STDs like the caduet they have for hypertension.

and now that i think about it, i could probably LP myself. i am familar with the fetal position (i'm in it right now) and i would know when inserting the needle if I were hitting bone. i would think one could also discern the 'pop' more easily if self-performing the procedure. filling those tubes would be difficult tho.

That's what nurses are for--to handle the tubes. ;)
