Just curious, how many programs allow their residents to to elective rotations outside of the hospital system the residency is based out of. My program will not allow us to do any electives outside of the facility which greatly limits our opportunities, especially for someone interested in fellowship somewhere. I would like to take this to our PD and show her that we are an exception, not the rule..Thanks..

I know our progrma allows us to do whatever we want. We are a new program, just like yours. It does limit your education, IMO (not to mention morale).

@ Christiana, we, too, get a "true" elective.

We can go anywhere we want in the world (as long as it as approved in advance).
