Someone from the other site which you know which one wrote the following, s/he proved my exact point. Where is that liason person Pat? please ask your board members and tell them to give us an answer.

simple question?
I wonder how California can disapprove a Caribbean Medical school based on their rules and regulations (MCAT, etc) but, then approve other medical schools that don’t follow their rules and regulations for admission, don’t have the same medical curriculum, and they don’t even know how the schools work. I am talking about Cuban medical schools. Most of Cuban schools are approved by California and they don’t meet their requirements because they don’t have the same medical curriculum of LCME US medical schools. They are very good medical schools established for more than 100 years and with a really good reputation, but I doubt the medical board of California visits Cuba to inspect these schools. I would like to know why the California medical board is so inconsistent with the accreditation of foreign medical schools.

I want to thank the California medical official for their time.

I believe the California Medical Board's position is to disallow schools that have a significant population of students that are studying there who are NOT resident in that country that do not face the board's criteria. Most Cuban medical students are Cuban, the schools are there with the purpose of training clinicians for Cuba. Thus, Cuban schools face less scrutiny since producing clinicians for eventual practice in non-Cuban countries is not a primary mission of Cuban institutions.

Many Carib schools are there to produce clinicians who eventually practice outsider the country the school is located in. That is why the California board places more scrutiny on those institutions.

There used to be a program where US students could study in Cuba on scholarship but I am unsure if the program still exists. Contrary to what you state, US citizens are allowed to visit and spend money in Cuba with authorization of the DoS and many students have done rotations there.

I hope this helps.

Why are you posting a message to the California Med Board on this forum? Why don't you just email them? I don't think they even visit this forum and even if they did you know they aren't going to respond to a critical question like that.

Email them.

Please do not keep posting threads about the same basic topic. You already have started 4 other threads here about the Cali board, so I'm closing this one as we have already done with some of the others.
