Hi, DVMjkish, thank you so much for so many inspiring and informative posts from you. I am a new registered member in this forum. it seems that this forum open a new world for me.
I am from China and doing postdoc in USA now. My undergraduate study majored in animal medicine. it is kind of equvalent to DVM. Then i changed my major to zoology. i got PhD in zoology in China. The only future for postdoc who are doing basic research on bio-medical science is to seek faculty position in university or institute. However, nowdays this is a way to no where for most of us, except for those who got PhD from ivy university and have big shot supervisor and got nature or science papers published. I am not this kind of beast. So I am trying to quit this hopeless field. From your website i noticed this information "As rule of step # 1, your vet school must be one on this list.....". I am confused with what you said. My understanding is that the university on this list are accredited by AVMA and graduates from these universities are qualified to practice vet in US directly. Now the probem is that the university where I got my DVM (actually it is not DVM, it is Bachelor of Agriculture science) is not on the list. Actually there are quite some good vet school not on this list. I want to know if I am qualified to take the ECFVG program.

Thank you. btw, you are great man. I am sure you are man.

Here is the list:

if your school is not on the list, I recommend you contact the ECFVG directly and ask them. They are the one who should give you the correct and final answer. this is the contact page: http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/contacts.asp

you can just e-mail them.

Good luck.

DVMjakish, thank you so much for your kind reply. I just sent a email to ECFVG, and the reply is as below:

Your E-mail has been received by the ECFVG office. E-mails are addressed
as follows:
1. Requests to send a verification letter of program status to a
state board or other entity will be completed within 5-7 working days.
Please note: Request must be made in writing (e-mail) 2 weeks prior to
any deadline. ECFVG cannot be held responsible for last minute request.
2. Requests to change address, phone number, or other contact
information will be completed within 10 working days. You will receive
confirmation that such changes have been made via US mail, but the ECFVG
cannot send E-mail confirmation.
3. Questions will be answered via E-mail within 10 working days.

Actually I am not toally understand the reply. maybe I have to wait.

I want to ask the fellows here who took or are taking ECFVG program if your vet school is on the list of AVMA Listed Veterinary Colleges of the World. Since I haven't started yet and was really inspired by all the posts here, I really worried about this issue. If I am not qualified to take this program, my dream to be a vet in US may terminate coz I am too old and too poor to go to vet school in US.

wish all your guys good luck.

That is not true, America vets generally make more than UK vets, however some might do. The tax in England is much higher than US. So even if you make good money, big chunk go on taxes.
I say do whatever is easy for you to do and chose where would you want to live and work. Money is not the most important thing.

Hi, DVMjakish, Thank you so much for your kind reply. I got reply from Mary Barbosa, it is like this,

In order for your veterinary college to become AVMA-listed we must have a statement from the Ministry of Education of China stating that the College is recognized by the national government as granting profession degrees in veterinary medicine, and that its graduates are eligible to practice veterinary medicine in China.

Actually I don't know where and whom I should ask in Department of Education China about these things. I sent a email to Department of Education China, but haven't got any response yet, maybe never. I know how this bureaucracy work.

DVMjakish, Do I have the pleasure to have your email address? My email address is yetze2003@hotmail.com

I am in my final year in veterinary school and am planning on moving back to Canada to obtain a license

I have read most of this forum and found it very helpful and I think understand the licensing process fairly well now. However I have one question:

My question is if i begin the ECFVG process in Canada am I allowed to take the CPE at one of the American Veterinary colleges or will i have to take it in Canada. The reason I ask is because i have read that the waiting time after passing the NAVLE and an available spot for the CPE in a Canadian Uni is 24 to 30 months. Which is a ridiculously long time. However for American Universities it is 4-6 months which seems like a perfect amount of time.

Thx

Hi, same thing happened to me. They send me the same letter. My advice is to call your dean or school head and ask them were you could get the letter from. In my case what I did is I informed my dean, she then informed the university president, and the university president contacted the office of the education minister. It is a simple letter stating that my school is recognized in my country to offer veterinary medicine, and that graduates are allowed to practice. After couple of weeks I checked the AVMA list, and my school was added to the list.

Hello everybody! I'm new to this forum and just want to commend people who already accomplished their goals and went through the ECFVG who are still actively involved helping out fellow foreign graduates! Started my licensure process back in 2008 and so far so good. Passed the language exam the first try, and then I got distracted with work and stuff; currently working as a vet tech in a small animal practice - helps out a lot! Took the BCSE May of this year and passed! And now I'm eligible for the CPE and NAVLE but will take the NAVLE first based on advices I got from Vets who I've worked with who underwent the same process. Besides, for $5'000. exam fee I better be 100% sure I'm ready when I decide taking that exam! So right now I'm preparing for the NAVLE exam on April next year! Just wondering if anybody in this forum from South Florida that are taking this test around the same time interested in forming a study group. I'm gettin by with my review just fine but it is definitely helpful to have somebody quiz or share knowledge with me. Again, goodluck to everyone and BELIEVE!!!! nothing is impossible! Wish me luck guys!!!:):):)

Try to email OAVT or SAVT. I'm from MB. There is no AHT Equivalency Assessment Services for Foreign Vet Grad in MB. They referred me to Northern Alberta Institute of technology which opened recently an AHT Equivalency Assessment. The process are almost similar to veterinary medicine. Hello guys, I just got a mail from CVMA stating that I got my spot to take the CPE in Nov. 2011 Montreal. Has anyone heard or experienced how is the CPE like there? I would like to have an idea of what to expect...

For those who think that the exam (CPE) takes too long here in Canada, well takes longer than in the US but not as long as everyone think, I sent my registration Nov 2010 and got a spot for Nov 2011, now I know for sure and can focus on getting ready for it.

Please again if anyone knows or has an idea of how is the CPE in Montreal would be great a heads up.

Hi DVMjkish! Thank you for your page with such interesting info. I have a question. You wrote that you used Mosby's Comprehensive Review for Veterinary Technicians. Now I read different reviews about this book and a lot of people say that at the end of each chapter and the comprehensive test have many incorrect answers. So, I would like to ask you about it. Was it too bad or it did not make sense for you? Also was it enough to refresh your knowledge about anatomy, physiology and pathology?

Hi:
My name is bouchaib. I would like some advice about BCSE and what books did use to prepare for the BCSE test. you can email me at bouchmallouk@yahoo.com. Thank you very much.

I used ZUKE review and also bought the whole series of NVMS and methiculously read and tried to remember key points. My advice is not to under-estimate BCSE! Not because it says it's "basic" it is not necessarily easy. Learning from people who took it several times because of the assumption it's easy and you could get by just reviewing the Mosby's Comprehensive Technician Reviewer and not coming in fully prepared! I don't know how the test was years and years ago, people who took it maybe 3-4 years ago said it's very easy, I don't know but to me the questions were not BASIC at all! Not to scare anybody here, they probably made it harder from the input of the people who took it when they first started. Even people who took the NAVLE even said it is almost like it just ore time restricted! To cut it short, prepare like you're taking the NAVLE and you will be fine! It won't go to waste since you will be using the knowledge for the NAVLE anyways! That's just me though! Goodluck!

Hello everyone!! I took the BCSE on Nov 29th. (Still waiting for the results)
About the exam I just can tell that it is not an easy exam. I studied more than 6 hrs/day for almost 3 months and I still did not find it easy.
I used NVMS, Merch, Mosby's Review for Veterinary Technicians, UFlorida videos and Zuku Review.

I really recommend an intense preparation.. Do not underestimate the BCSE and try to focus on Clinical Pathology and Pharmacology.

I hope I had helped you... I will let you know about my score..

The American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) has a great site for surgery summaries of many important surgical conditions with radiographs:
http://www.acvs.org/AnimalOwners/HealthConditions/SmallAnimalTopics/ http://www.acvs.org/AnimalOwners/HealthConditions/FoodAnimalTopics/
http://www.acvs.org/AnimalOwners/HealthConditions/LargeAnimalEquineTopics/

Also, its good to know your instruments, sutures and suture patterns:
http://cal.vet.upenn.edu/projects/surgery/1000.htm
http://www.surgical-instrument-pictures.com/instrument-index.html
http://departments.kings.edu/paprog/surgicalinstruments.htm

For surgery, I think Fossum's Small Animal Surgery book is excellent. One good thing about that book is that when you buy it, you also get access to the whole book online. Very handy.

Here are some other good sites you may want to look over:

Pharmacology and pharm case studies
http://cpharm.vetmed.vt.edu/
http://cpharm.vetmed.vt.edu/vm8784/default.htm

Radiology, especially thoracic
This one is an excellent summary on thoracic radiology- if you scroll over the images, it highlights the different lung patterns. http://www.vetgo.com/cardio/concepts/concsect.php?conceptkey=20292

This whole site (Veterinary Radiology) is excellent, and you can start with this superb summary of what a bronchial pattern looks like:
http://www.veterinaryradiology.net/373/what-is-a-bronchial-pattern/

A good one on evaluating vasculature of rads
http://www.petrays.com/pdf/VPN%20Diagnosis%20July08.pdf
And another good summary on lung patterns
http://www.petrays.com/pdf/VPN%20Diagnosis%20May08.pdf
Finally as a bonus- a great case on linear foreign bodyas seen with contrast studies
http://www.petrays.com/pdf/VPN%20Diagnosis%20June08.pdf

Poisonous Plants

Here is a decent veterinary dictionary
http://www.answers.com/library/Veterinary%20Dictionary-cid-15581177

The so-called "A to Z Cramguide" is basically an alphabetical listing of a lot (A LOT) of unrelated factoids from an older edition or the Merck Vet Manual. I do not love it, but some folks are always asking for a copy, so here is a link: http://zukureview.com/docs/A-Z_revised.doc

Thank you, Yolanda! Did you have a lot of anatomy questions, what type? Could you tell, please, what kind of questions did you have about Clinical Pathology?
Thanks,
Philipp

Well, I gotta inform everyone in the forum that I PASSED BCSE on my first attempt!! I am super happy, I just got the results!!

Phila, I am not able to tell anyone specific questions on the test. So, as I told you, try to prepare well in clinic pathology, pharmacology.. and for sure A LOOOOT of small animals..

My strategy was using ZUKU exactly the way it is said.... (You have to study everyday, and take notes of the questions you failed) then, I read the whole Mosby's review for vet technicians, I used merck to study further all those important diseases.. Also, used NVMS ( especially small animals internal medicine)... I WATCHED ALL THE FLORIDA VIDEOS and took notes... (it helped a loooot).

It really depends on your background knowledge, experience and the effort you put on it..

I hope I could help you!!

Thank you to DVMJAKISH, RICHYVET for your help!!!

Congratulations Yolanda! Best wishes for NAVLE! How long ago did graduate from your university?

Thanks phila!!!... I graduated in 2009, which could be an advantage... Because I have fresh knowledge.. However, sometimes was very tricky, because as a recent graduate, I have no experience and sometimes things are not very clear for me..

When did you graduate?? When are you planning to take bcse?

Good luck for you too!!!

I graduated in 1999 and it was oversea. I will take my exam in April. From one side there is enough experience, but from the other one it is really hard to refresh my anatomy and physiology knowledge. Keep it touch about your NAVLE preparation.

That is why I was asking about any questions about anatomy and physiology.

Phila! Don't worry about that! ... Try to read the most important chapters on a physiology book so you can refresh your knowledge and get a better idea! CARDIO, BLOOD, URINARY, RESPIRATORY, and REPRODUCTIVE are the most important to understand the physiology per se.

Anatomy, you will catch it when reading physiology, and also you can focus on musculoskeletal (especially in the horse).. Some other things like major blood vessels or the completely understanding of the heart are necessary.

Don't worry.. you will be OK!.. Just study, and be constant..

By the way, I think I have some files on pdf I could share with all you, but I dont know how to upload them! *help*!!

:luck: Good Luck!!!

Hey Yolanda! Yeah this i my first time taking the NAVLE. I'm using Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NAVLE. Bought the book and CDs with multiple choice questions. I'm trying to structure out my review with that book to have some kind of system studying. I might also try out Vetprep. I also have the NBVMS books and the UF NAVLE review videos. At this point I'm trying not to overwhelm myself with info and bite more than I can chew you know... I see VIN also has some kind of review module huh? I guess I missed that there's nomore vacant slot. Oh well... I'll post some more info that might help! Happy Holidays everyone!!! :):):)

I'm not sure about having wrong answers, might be one or two made as typo, but shouldn't be a problem.
This was 4 years ago, I really can't remember anything now. Time for people to start showing some help to others around here.

Hi!! I can tell by hand that the book does have some wrong answers... However, it is not a big deal... What I suggest to every one studying with this book, is to re-check all your answers in the chapter you were studying.. It will be helpful to reinforce what you just studied.

The book is still very worth!! =)

I hope it helped... and, DVMJAKISH.. Please, keep helping us with this hard path... I agree that more people should share their experiences, but you are a very important part of this forum.

Yeah I hear you! I work full time in a small animal practice and it's really hard to stick with a strict study routine. I'm taking the NAVLE this coming April and will start just doing part-time then maybe take a whole month off before the exam date. You'll be fine I'm sure! I know how I operate and usually when I overload myself with information I just mess it all out so I'm sticking to just a nice steady phase and see how it goes. As far as VIN NAVLE review, I checked last night and the site said nomore vacant slot. I think you can still access the lectures if you're a member. I'm not though...
For people just starting out with the ECFVG process, I know the whole thing is very intimidating and sometimes discouraging. I graduated in the Philippines back in 2002 and didn't get started with the ECFVG process until 2009 (given I've been in the veterinary field the whole interim/ vet tech 2006 up to now). Sometimes you need to take risks in life otherwise you'll never know what things are all about. Failure makes us stronger and will teach us a lot of things. Of course I'm not saying to just take the exams without preparing! Based on my own experience, sometimes our nerves gets in the way! There's a lot of information out there. It's now all up to us to make good use out of them and gather some courage to take all those exams! I hope I offered some kind of encouragement to somebody who read this. :):):)

Goodluck!

Thank you very much for the advice. I have to study hard in order to pass it . thank you.

Hi,
I am a foreign trained veterinarian (from India). I am Canada Citizen, currently have been working as veterinary assistant in Ontario,Canada. I live in greater Toronto area,Canada. I am registered both with CVMA and AVMA. I have passed BCSE & NAVLE exams successfully in first attempts. I currently have been preparing for CPE (Las Vegas,US). I have few questions in my mind.

1. Can i work in US , if i get job offer as an associate veterinarian in US (e.g- Banfield hospital) ?
2. Is that easy to get H1B for Canadian citizen ?
3. What are chances to get US immigration through EB-3 or EB-2, if i work in US for at least 6 years ?

I know my questions are more related with US H1B visa/immigration issues, but any Canadian Citizen veterinarian working in US on H1B, please help me.

Thanks.

I juts heard from NAVLE (score portal) that I passed NAVLE.
My advice to NAVLE candidates is to take NAVLE prep test ($50 each) and study using ZUKU and/or VetPrep. This way you can get yourself ready to read and answer questions in a timely matter.

It's a bit more complicated than that, Doesn't matter what nationality you have, if you have Have ECFVG and pass NAVLE, then you only need to pass the state exam where you intend to work. However you need work visa, Again it doesn't matter if you are from Canada, being Canadian allow you to enter USA easily as visitor but you can't work without work visa. H1B1 are very easy to get but you first need an employer who want to hire you, then you need to be willing to pay the fee which can be very expensive if you hire attorney and lastly you have to wait at least a year to get the visa because they only give 50 000 H1B1 a year in the U.S , so if you apply this year it will be for the 2012 visa, you should find the employer and have all paper work ready so when they open the registration for the visa you will be the first to get it.... your advantage is that you can come to USA as visitor and meet employers, interview, that's all. I recommend that you work in Canada for a while and get experience this way you might find employer willing to put up with paperwork hassle. But my best advice is that you finish all the exam and then apply for internship in USA, this will be easier visa to get, you will be paid anywhere from 20-40 K a year but this will give good chance to find employer
and maybe the place you intern in will hire you if they like you, 70 % of hiring happens due to long term personal contact , like interning or externing...

one thing at a time...

Congrats in your new job! So you moved from the US after all that hard work to get your license? I followed your posts infrequently and I remember your first NAVLE score and how disappointed you were for being to be very close to the passing score. I think that was one of the reasons I pushed a little harder to study so that I pass it in my first trial. Thanks for all the positive attitude you provided to this board. Good luck.

if you are a canadian citizen, you don't need a h1b visa. You need somebody from USA to give you a job, and with that contract you go directly to the border to get a NAFTA visa
you will have to renew the NAFTA visa every year, but once you have it you can apply for a green card. So all you need it's to find a job

My advice to NAVLE candidates is to take NAVLE prep test ($50 each) and study using ZUKU and/or VetPrep. This way you can get yourself ready to read and answer questions in a timely matter.

Congratulations! Was it your first time taking the NAVLE? Thanks for the advice. Where can I access that NAVLE prep test for $50.00? I might start using vetprep contemplating about it since I'm finding Saunder's module review very helpful and don't want to overwhelm myself with sooooo much info! Goodluck on your CPE!:thumbup::thumbup: Oh btw, did you get the standard or the premium VETPREP? Thanks again!

Yes, it was my first time; however, I took BCSE twice. You can find the self-assessment exam here;
https://www.nbvme.org/?id=93

I got premium VetPrep, this way you can view their presentations. How are you preparing for CPE?

I graduated vet school in Poland and I passed my NAVLE and now I am getting ready for the CPE. It has been a long and difficult process but don't give up. The best advice I can give you is be familiar with the NAVLE content and know what your weakness is. Large animal or small? and focus on that first. I am a native english speaker so it was easier for me but we all learned this school too! I think that USA vets think differently then those from Europe. I learned by being a vet tech many helpful things that no book could teach me. I highly recommend working at a good vet practice (needs to be good teaching environment) with techs and drs who will support you and teach you. Don't give up, you can do it. Write me at ski05liv@yahoo.com if you have questions or need anything. Good Luck!

Hi, I'm new about all the boards exams here in America, I graduated from Veterinary Medicine in 2006, but I've not experienced, because as soon as I finished school, I started working at a pharmaceutical veterinary company, so I lost lots of experienced and I forget a lot too . I moved to Oklahoma (from Peru) just 6 months ago, and I tried to enroll at OSU as a transfer, but it's not possible. So I've only 2 options, or do the whole 6 years again or take the board exam.
I've been searching and I still don't know what I need to do, the ECFGV or NAVLE or PAVE or CPE, or all of them... I'm kinda lost. Can anybody please guide me? What should I do first?
It would be awesome if could work here as a veterinary assit. or tech., but it's so hard to find a job without an american certification or any american references. In the last 3 months I've been aplying for everything that I found, and I recieved only 2 unsuccesful interviews. If anyone works in Oklahoma, please let me know if there's a job opportunity. I wanna learn and practice so bad. I miss my career.

Thank you all!

Ok, I read a lil more and now I know that I do need to take the ECFGV no matter what and that CPE is part of this exam. Also I found out that some states requires the NAVLE, but for Oklahoma is not necessary and that PAVE is a new program that replace ECFGV. Am I right?

In 2010, 274 ECFVG certificates were awarded to graduates of more than 75 different veterinary schools in approximately 40 different countries. Since the inception of the current certification program (January 1, 1973) through December 31, 2010, the ECFVG has awarded more than 4,900 certificates.

Between January 1 and March 30, 2009, 133 new candidates have registered in the ECFVG program, and 40 candidates were awarded ECFVG certificates. Since the inception of the current certification program (January 1, 1973) through December 31, 2009, the ECFVG has awarded more than 4,700 certificates.

From January 1 through December 31, 2008, 414 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. During that same time, 292 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. Thirty-eight percent of those awarded certificates are native-born citizens of the United States and 62% are native-born citizens of other countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 4,500.

From January 1 through September 11, 2007, 320 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. During that same time, 274 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. Thirty-three percent of those awarded certificates are native-born citizens of the United States and 67% are native-born citizens of other countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 4,300.

From January 1 through December 31, 2006, 456 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. Twenty-nine percent are native-born citizens of the United States and 71% are native-born citizens of other countries.During that same time, 371 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. New certificate holders are graduates of more than 71 different veterinary schools in approximately 40 different countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 3,900.

From January 1, 2005 through December 21, 603 new candidates registered in the ECFVG program. The new candidate population is diverse, having graduated from more than 75 different non-AVMA/Council on Education-accredited veterinary colleges in more than 40 countries around the world. Twenty-one percent are native-born citizens of the United States and 79% are native-born citizens of other countries.During that same time, 343 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. This is the greatest number of certificates awarded in a single year since the original certification program began in May 1965. New certificate holders are graduates of more than 75 different veterinary schools in approximately 40 different countries. Total number of certificates awarded since 1965 exceeds 3,600.

From January 1, 2004 through December 7, 621 new candidates enrolled in the ECFVG program. Although the year is not yet over, this represents an increase of 32%, compared with 2003 enrollment. The new candidate population is diverse: new candidates are graduates of more than 100 different non-AVMA accredited veterinary colleges in more than 60 countries around the world. In addition, 33% are native-born citizens of the United States.During that same time, 249 candidates completed the program and were awarded ECFVG certificates. New certificate holders are graduates of 73 different veterinary schools in 36 countries. Again, although 2004 is not yet over, the number of certificates awarded thus far exceeds the number awarded in any previous year and represents a 16% increase, compared with certificates awarded in 2003. Total number of certificates awarded since the current ECFVG program was initiated on January 1, 1973 now stands at 3,023.

Time to certificate:

As of January 2010, 203 of the 434 candidates who initially registered in the program in 2007 have been awarded ECFVG certificates and 91 are no longer actively enrolled in the program.
Time from registration to certification for these 203 candidates was as little as 5 months and as long as 32 months.

39 of the 203 certificate holders who initially registered in 2007 (19%) completed the ECFVG program within 12 months of initial registration;
129 (64%) completed the program between 12 and 24 months of initial registration, and
35 (17%) completed the program between 25 and 36 months of initial registration.

Individual results for new candidates may differ due to a number of factors unique to each candidate.

Hello everyone.
I got a quick but important question for you guys who have taken the CPE: What do you guys use to study from? I got the manual and I understand that I will be questioned about what it is in there..... the problem is that you can get asked almost everything??? I would like to know the sources you used to focus on the "sections" for the exam. I know Merck is great for BCSE and NAVLE actually that is what I used for those exams, but for the CPE??

Thanks in advance

I agree with you Dr. Meanwhile i am preparing for CPE , and after that want to work as small animal vet in Ontario,CANADA. I am not so much interested to work in USA, I love Canada , and veterinary medicine profession is well paid here also. But i am interested in Internship, especially in 'small animal internal medicine', I dt know how hard is to get into that. Currently i am thinking about CPE exam and working in CANADA. After that, i will think about applying for Internship in the US. I also heard that, for foreign citizens, it is a bit hard time to get a job offer, and to get sponsorship for H1B from US employer.

indiaDVM

if you are a canadian citizen, you don't need a h1b visa. You need somebody from USA to give you a job, and with that contract you go directly to the border to get a NAFTA visa
you will have to renew the NAFTA visa every year, but once you have it you can apply for a green card. So all you need it's to find a job

Canadian Citizens can work in USA on TN work permit for maximum of 3 years, their is no requirement for sponsorship, as required for H1B. H1B holders can apply for US green card. Long waiting time for green card process, especially for Chinese, Indians. (many years more than 12 years someone told me).

UNAM and Ross got accredited by AVMA. Does this mean less opportunities for ECFVG Vets in US now ???At least Banfield the largest employer of ECFVG vets will not be that generous now and so whats the future of ECFVG program??UNAM has a class of 400 vet students (accreditation 2011-2017),so this means that there will be atleast 350-600 vets eligible to work in US from Mexico and Ross..Bad news for other foreign graduates who want to come to US on H1B after ECFVG. I guess Banfield would not be so happy to do the H1B now when they can get vets from Mexico .Anybody knows will this accreditation of UNAM will start with 2011 batch or students before 2011 batch also. Please your thoughts on this..Thanks.

Good news for Ross DVM graduates. But almost all Ross DVM's are US citizens. So they dt need any H1B. Yes, they can now get their license faster. Banfield hesitates to hire veterinarians on H1B. Why they need to hire non-US Citizens on H1B, if they already have US Citizen veterinarians candidates (It does not matter for them, if you are one of 28 US vet DVM graduate or Ross DVM graduate / or any other Carribean vet school graduates. What matters for them is - Are you US Citizen or US permanent resident , because they are no more willing to sponser ECFVG vets on H1B. Mexican citizens also need H1B visa to work in USA. Mexicans vets have no advantage as compared to other foreign national vets.

Indianvet75

Banfield spent 10 million US for UNAM clinics for accreditation for all the good reasons i guess. Mexicans and Canadian professionals can apply for TN visa which makes them apart from HIB visa candidates.

I was just wondering how far the chances for an international student getting in to a residency program. What programs are usually available, I mean more chances for being accepted.
Usually what are the things that are considered (all basic informations are greatly appreciated and I believe it will be very useful for residency aspirants)
Also about any internship opportunities

All ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it includes all the 7 sections you have during the CPE. I bought it and some of it was helpful, some I didn't use at all. There is a list of good differentials for all species etc.
If you are interested I can sell it to you for cheaper than VCRC is charging esp the shipping cost.

Hola
Yo me gradue en Peru, en San Marcos.

should i fly back to the philippines to finish vet school? im getting my citizenship in a couple of months and im starting to chicken out. not because of "career choice" but (just being honest) the lifestyle i have here. yes, im so used to the US lifestyle that im having second thoughts of leaving and studying back in the PI. i have never thought of doing anything else other than becoming a veterinarian but there is no way i afford california school tuition. with the economy being bad the last thing i need are school debts! i havent slept thinking about this and i really want to hear thoughts from foreign vets US licensed or not.

thanks
b

Hey there! I got my DVM from the University of the Philippines in 09. I say if you want to get your veterinary education in the Philippines, go to the best school.
After you finish the four years of vet school, return to the US and get ready to take the ECFVG (maybe another year or so of studying and another year of externships), and voila,if everything goes well, you will get your license to practice in the US.
This route is definitely much cheaper than going to a US vet school. You just have to deal with the ECFVG afterwards, and a somewhat discrimination in the US for foreign vet grads (haha).

hi i am vet graduate d from india . whole of my schooling is from convent school the medium of instruction is english . my question is it necessary for me to prove my English competency through TOEFL or IELTS . i had cleared TOEFL 5 years back is that scores valid if i want to register now.
You still have to take the TOEFL. The AVMA only exempts the English language test if you are from Canada, Europe or Australia. TOEFL scores are only valid for two years, so just get ready to take the TOEFL again.

You got two options:
Certification with the AVMA: http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/default.asp
Accepted in all states

or

Certification with AAVSB http://www.aavsb.org/PAVE/
Not accepted in all states.

You will find specific and detailed information in their website. Do your own homework!

Mandatory? To work as a Veterinarian, you need a license. No boards = NO license. However you can work as an assistant. You can go to any local clinic (in the US) and ask if they need and additional assistant. They will tell you the requirements, previous experience and your foreign Veterinarian degree will do a lot. You just need to find the place. Good Luck!

Also, for certification and boards it depends where you got your degree. If you come from a AVMA accredited school, you need only the boards and not the certification.

Hello all coleages,
I ment to share this before, but to much going on in my life... Anyway
I took CPE in march, made some really goof friends. It was the most stressful 3 days of my life. Only when they kick you out of a section you know you fail. Otherwise there is no way to tell how things are going till you get the results. Getting prepare for the stress is as important as studying.
I pass most of the CPE. I am appealing anesthesia, because I think I did a good job and they failed me. The report I got made no sense to me.
I studied from pasquini books for horses, practice surgery abroad and small animals in the clinic I work as a tech. I use yutube and some of the links from futurevows website (some links dont work) for procedures in large animals. I am a visual learner, that is why I didn't need to practice large animal procedures.
I took the NAVLE in April. I used vetperp and the 200 questions for 50 bucks in the navle website to get ready. This is the second time I take it. I used zuku the first time.
Now I am looking for a place where to do 1000 hours before I can get my full license in Utah.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

I'm in the same kind of situation and it is very frustrating to find somebody who will let you just do procedures especially surgeries. Fortunately I'm still working at a small animal hospital right now and some doctors let me do some surgeries under supervision. Try contacting shelters and rescue groups around your area that would be the best bet. My dilemna right now is to find a cow doctor to shadow. When are you taking your CPE?

I am preparing to get a us vet license in Washington state.
Now I am volunteering at a small animal hospital to keep up my skill even though I worked as a vet in small animal practice for 3 years in my country.

I am looking for large animal, such as bovine and equine, hospital to work or volunteer. Is there anyone who knows a large animal doctor in WA?

Here is the second question. Are you guys preparing CPE in local animal hospital with doctors who you shadow or in the university which provide some clinical intership??

Normally how long does it take for ECFVG to verify a certification of graduation in step 1, enrollment?

Thank you guys and have a great day.

Hi there
You can find large animal vets on the website of your veterinary association. Call them, they are usually willing to have you shadowing. Also since you already know some vets, theymay help you to find a large animal vet.
For the step one. It took almost 2 years for me. I had to go back home and get the letter sent by AVMA/ECFVG signed by the Dean of my school. Getting the transcripts and records officially translated took a while too.
All do, you can continue with next steps of ECFVG program.

Good luck,

Wow, I have noticed that there are quite a few latin american vets trying to get their licenses in North America (myself included). I am from Venezuela and I already have passed BCSE and NAVLE. I got my Navle results a month ago, and I feel so happy that I dont ever have to take that test again.

It was very difficult for me to stay focused during the test. It's way too long!!
Having said that, I encourage all of you to keep going and get your license, the process seems long and complicated, but is actually not that hard.

Of course it takes a lot of time and discipline to study, but it is completely worth it!

I studied with a bunch of books for BCSE: Merck, Mosby for Vet techs, NVMS books, and also used zuku review. It took me about three months of hard study, but I passed on my first try, and more important, I gained a great foundation for NAVLE

For Navle, I started to prepare with almost 3 months in advance. This time I used vetprep, Saunders review for Navle and the VCRV books.I also watched all the UFlo videos and took notes. What also helped me a lot is that I did an internship in a mixed animal practice clinic.

Now, Im waiting to register for the CPE, Im not sure I want to take it this year, however, I will be happy to share information or make a study group!!!

If there is something I can do to help, let me know!!

ohm btw, I fully recommend both Zuku and vetprep, I used the first for bcse and I did exactly what Dr zuku suggested, it was a great help. I decided to use vetprep for navle because I wanted to try different questions... and it totally worked for me...

Have a great day!!! and Please, keep contributing with the forum..

Hi!! thanks for your kind words.. I've heard of that VSTEP program, but it costs 13000$ that I can't afford. So far, I've managed to get myself into an internship program in the University of Calgary. I am confident that I will get enough experience during that year and then be ready por CPE. Anyway, I'm planning on studying very hard..
I love this profession, so studying isn't much of a trouble for me... I found a website where you can download all kind of veterinary books. It is in spanish but teh majority of the books are in english.. I totally recommend it!!

http://bibliotecamvz.blogspot.com/ You should all check it out!!

I don't know if everyone knows "futurevows" this is a website that I also found very helpful http://futurevows.com/

http://www.elib4vet.com/ is also an option..

Something else that I did (that I forgot to told you) was to "subscribe" to the facebook page of : VETERINARY BOARD GAMES. Everyday they post a flashcard with a question that it's answered the next day. The cool thing about this is that the flashcards aren't multiple choice, so you have to think about the possible answer without any help.

Ha!! I almost forgot that I also did the self assesment that the AVMA offers for NAVLE.. I liked it because they give you an idea of how will you perform in NAVLE. In my case, I actually did better than they expected hahaha!! .. But it helped me to get a clear image of the test and also to push myself even harder after my average result in this assesment. It costs 50$ and this is the direct link: http://www.nbvme.org/?id=93

Have a great day!!! and remember to keep posting!! =)

wow you are well informed gotta save this post for the future, i found futurevows in a previous search while i was looking for BCSE materials but this is the first time i encounter such huge amount of vet books in those websites, would you mind if i add all that info to a new post for the BCSE and NAVLE, one of the things that consumed my time was going through 28 pages in this long post to get information, i guess if we put a new shorter one vets will get what they want in less time.

and you got an internship in calgary ?? didnt know they have internships in canada, that i should defiantly look for after i finish my bcse and navle

Hi Yolanda, I graduated in Venezuela also, I studied in UCV maracay, where did you graduate? send me a email enriquearturo10@hotmail.com

I feel bad that almost everyone stop using the forum after they have reached their goals!! ... Remember that this is all an important source of help and information to other foreign vets!!

Hey, I also think is a great idea to add a new post with the most recent information.. Who is with o0omin and I? Let's do it, and if you have any valuable information that you may have taken from this discussion, let's just copy and paste it into the new thread!
I think in that way we won't be looking at 2007's posts or so..
Have a great night, and please remember that it's very important to keep helping other foreign veterinarians with our experiences!!

Hi all
I got to answer some calls. Sorry if I missed anyone. I am happy to help as much as I can.
I noticed from people who called, that there is a lot of concern about the whole process. I just wanna remain you guys that this is a step by step process. Lets focus in what is on front of us for now. I wanna use the analogy of climbing a huge mountain. Do not look at the top just yet, specially if you just started.
there were some colleagues that are having hard time finding time to study My recommendation is to escape from your normal life at lease an hour a day. I used to go to library for an hour after work. Or maybe stay in your car or the bus. Find a place were no one could interrupt your concentration.
Most of you already have all the infomation that you need. But we have to remember to process it. When using the websites. Try not just to learn the questions, but also to recognize the matter and maybe make up questions from the other alternatives.
Remember to read and understand what the questions are about and what is being asked.

That is it for now. Good luck,

o0omin

It's highly recommended to only go to the AVMA schools so you don't have to take those extra exams and a wait list of sometimes up to 3 years after you graduate. There are around a dozen foreign schools who are accredited. I'd apply to those ones to make your life easier. Some of them are quite good, and a few of them aren't, like the UK schools as they provide no student support. Go to a school who has great student support and treats you like family as they would never dismiss you, and will help you if you were to fail an exam, not just kick you out. There are very few vet schools like this now, but they are still ou there.

sorry, but i think that if you're failing multiple exams, something is wrong.

I wouldn't want to go to a school that "would never kick you out" what's the value in that? Graduating a bunch of incompetent doctors that can't pass their exams? No thanks.

You're obviously really bitter about your experience so far, but I really doubt it is the school that is making you have such a bad experience

Hi everyone
I joined the group a while ago, but for some reason my user got lost, anyway I got a better one.
I graduate in 2004 got my license in Peru in 2005. Moved to US in 2007. While in US I have been working as a Tech/assistant in a non profit clinic in Utah since july 2007. I pass the TOEFL in 2008. I enrolled in the ECFVG program in 2009. I took the BCSE the first time in Dec 2009, didn't make it. Worst Chrismass ever, even do I got a PS3.
I re took the test in march 2010 and pass.
I've been working as a tech and getting some training about Vet Medicine in US, I strongly recomend it. May be not for quite long as me.
To prepare for the BCSE I used the www.zukureview.com (http://www.zukureview.com) I suscribed to their daily question, very usefull. Also I suscribed for 3 months. Only did that for the first try. Obviously wasn't enough. For the second try I suscribed to the Zuku again for a month and red the gumshoevet review (It has some mistakes, but worked for me as I was able to tell).
I just send my letter to request an application form for the CPE among with with a cashier's check for 500 US Dollars.
I am hopping to take the test in Las Vegas in september.
I hope this can give you all some info about what to do. I have to confess I have never been a good student.

Anyone who would like to study or have some ideas how to get ready for the CPE? Is it possible to practice some spays anywhere in US? I went back to Peru for Vacations ang got to do a couple spays it wasn't bad, but I need to practice more before the test? I think they give you an hour or so to do it. It took me 30 min in Peru, from first incision to last stich.

Regards

If you are plannign to take CPE, I would prefer to take it at a university attached place rather than LV. From people who have been to LV .....that test site is very strict and hard. I don't mean to scare you but since I am also scheduled for CPE , my friends who have already taken it; advised me not to go to LV.

I am a vet graduate from India and recently moved to california. My query is which is more easier and beneficial PAVE or ECFVG?Please can anyone guide me on this?

PAVE is easier but not as widely accepted as ECFVG. Study hard for ECFVG and the benefits are better. ( this is what my friends told me when I started the ECFVG)

Hi All
I just got the response for my petition of reviewing the anesthesia section I failed when I took CPE in Vegas. I still failed. And now I have to retake that section again. That sucks! but I am not going to let this little delay to stop me for getting my freaking US license.

I got a new job as Animal Rescuer... pertty cool. Anyway I am on vacations for a week or so. So if anyone has some questions or just feel like sharing experiences, send me an email and I will try to call you back.

A little story:

I was riding my bicycle on my way to my first full field soccer game after couple years. I realized how many stuff I (and many of you for sure) gave up studying for ECFVG and NAVLE. It was a 8 miles ride. Mostly flat. but the last mile was up the hill. Just at the begining of the climb the rain started... no big deal... Right after I iniciate the climb the wind almost took me down. All these made think about the past 18 months; fighting to be able to practice Vet Medicine in US. So I took that climb as my personal CPE. I just kept going slowly. I stoped few times took a breath and kept going... I thought of turning around few times, but I just kept going just because I really wanted to play soccer.
It was an awesome feeling when I got to the top and realized that I just climbed a 8% hill. Everything felt so easy after that... Till I got to the soccer field (but you know... it is not that diffcult to do something you love doing).
So today I am going to play again, my tird game. I take the same road and the same hill. But it feels easier every time...

Good luck you all,

o0omin

Hi guys, I'm currently registered to take the ECFVG program..Actually, it was a re-registration..I took it in 2002 but got frustrated by not passing the NAVLE back then..Life took over, needed to live & found jobs not directly related to Vet Med..After several years, i finally had the chance to do it all over again.I live in Ohio right now with my wife & had a chance to really focus the task at hand & challenge our goal w/c id to become US licensed Vet Medical professionals.

I'm on the verge of prepraring for the BCSE (3rd step).I do have the Zuku Review online & some books at hand to study.

Can you guys give me inputs & ideas on where to start since i've been a graduate several years ago.

You're response is greatly appreciated, colleagues..Thanks you!

I am really in a difficult position. I think for almost all the people who come to thihs post, to be a vet in US is our dream. However it seems that my dream will never come true.

I have decided to take the ECFVG about a year ago. However, the university where I got my vet degree is not on the list of AVMA Listed Veterinary Colleges of the World. They asked me to provide a statement from the Ministry of Education of our country that the university is recognized by the government and the gradautes are eligible to practice vet. I have provided this document. However, I got no response till now. If I couldn't be registered in the ECFVG, all the efforts I had will be gone. I really don't know how to do now.
Anybody alse here had the same problem as mine?
Is there any other alternative program to take to get vet license?
Is it okay if I take the NAVLE rather than the ECFVG?

I really appreciate if someone give me some sugggestions. Thanks

Hi guys,

Hope all of you are doing well with exam process.

I am also a newcomer vet and I wanna keep my veterinary knowledge fresh by applying to vet tech position in veterinary hospitals. Do you by any chance know if veterinary hospitals are interested in hiring non-certified techs and if certification is required how I can get that?
Do not get me wrong :D... the next step for me is going through all those exams to validate my DVM degree for North America.

Cheers,

Hi everyone. I graduated in 2003 in the Dominican Republic (UNPHU), and since then I am struggling to get by. I live in Puerto Rico. Changes in the Board of Examiners have delayed many of us. I pass the TOEFL. Now I'll take the BCSE in December.

I will use the ZUKU Review on the recommendation of acquaintances who have passed the exams. These have combined the ZUKU with the NVMS books. Few of us are Latinos, but here we are!

I do not want to give up. So it would be good to have some moral support from all of us to help us move ahead. If others have done it, we all can too.

Let's keep communicating.

Sigamos comunicandonos.

Hi Everybody,

I am so excited to find this forum and knowing there are a lot of people like me out there, doing the same thing having the same goal as I am! I have not meet anybody that's going through the same process. Wondering why the link of this forum never poped up on my search 2 years ago. Anyways, I'm glad it came out late then never!

I am a Vet from Taiwan, without knowing anyone that has went through the process of acquiring US Vet license as a foreign Vet, I choose PAVE instead of ECFVG, I did not pass, I don't think QE is easy at all! My scores were close to the passing point, but there are a lot of obscure questions that deviates my studying strategy. The most unbelievable thing is they up the retake price from $800 to $1500, or else I'd still retake QE because I already paid the register fee! So, now I'm going for ECFVG, the retake fee is $80(hopefully I didn't misunderstood), in case I did not pass, I don't have to drain my bank account.

I'm working as a Vet tech in a small animal practice in WA, and possibly taking the VTNE, just so I can get paid higher and save more money to get through the process of ECFVG and all that. Will be more then happy to get to know people who is studying for BCSE as well, I'm so looking forward to have study partners, please shoot me an email if interested in exchange studying strategies, or willing to include me in your study group!

Thanks

I'm in the same position as you. I did this year three externships in the US and my idea was to validate my career through the ECFVG then I found out I couldn't do it because my College is not listed in the AVMA, then I heard about the PAVE and I started to look for information but validate the career by the PAVE is very EXPENSIVE and unfortunately I cant afford it. I'm trying that my college send all the papers to the AVMA and who knows maybe next year I can take the ECFVG but for the moment I cant and I'm very sad about it. However I'm going to apply this year to an equine internships in some Universities that accept foreign graduates and dont require license or had approved the ECFVG-PAVE, although is very hard to get accepted I wont loose my hopes.

About your question, the other alternative to get a vet license in the US is the PAVE. Is not a matter of choice of doing the NAVLE or the ECFVG...You have to take both! but only if your doing the validate process. You can't take the NAVLE without doing the first steps of the ECFVG or the PAVE. Unfortunately I have to wait and see If in any point I would be able to get my career validation but is out of my hands right now :( I'll be praying and crossing my fingers to get accepted in an internship.

Hi guys-,

I am a vet from Japan and I am trying to get a license through the PAVE program. I will take the QE next January and I am busy studying for it right now while doing some externships.

Since I have spent so much money on study materials as many of you did, I thought it would be nice to have some free content to learn vet med in English so we don't have to waste our money on study materials or time on working as a tech or externship etc. I know such experiences are valuable but it would be great if we can circumvent it, right?

I am going to make a video series reviewing vet med on Youtube.com. This is the first video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cKHCj10nqQ. I hope this will be a great (quick and cheap!) way to review vet med in English. I apologize for some Japanese here and there in the video, but it is mainly in English. I also want to apologize for the quality of the video, and my English. I promise it will get better! As you all know, as a foreign vet trying to practice in the U.S., I'm not the richest person in the world!

Anyway, hope you can enjoy the videos (more are coming up!). And if there is a QE study group out there, let me know! I want study buddies!

Hi All,

I'm new to the ECFVG process, graduated from South Africa in 2006 and have worked in a number of small animal practices in Melbourne, Australia over the past few years. I have just missed the BCSE exam window for Nov/Dec 2011, so am planning to sit BCSE at the next opportunity in March 2012. Am living in Alexandria, Virginia, am interested in contacting anyone who is preparing for BCSE or just completed it.
Please let me know if anyone in that area is interested in a study group or to share experiences!

Hey all-,

Please visit my website at http://yoko.ambrosini.us where I posted useful sites and my videos for foreign vets trying to get a license in the U.S. It needs a lot more work to it but I think it's a good place to start. Looking forward to hearing from you with comments so I can improve more.

Thanks,
Yoko

Is there anyone in Seattle, WA, who want to study for QE or BCSE? Email me if you are interested in physical or virtual study group. I will love to do it with you.

Hi Everyone!
I am a Mexican grad who is taking the CPE in Vegas in just one week! I read that the site is tough, but hoping that I am well enough prepared to pass!

I work as an RVT at a small animal hospital and I got to do some ride-alongs with a large animal vet in the area who gave me a TON of material and information. I think my weakest area is equine and none of the equine vets around here were very willing to help me out to study, so getting a little nervous about that! Fortunately, I have friends with horses so I got to practice just a little.

Anyway, if anyone has any pearls of wisdom about taking the CPE in Vegas, or if anyone is looking for study material, contact me (we can get messages via this network, right?)! I'll try to post about my experience on here after the test. Best of luck to everyone going through the ECFVG process!

I'm getting the license through PAVE, so I don't really have any pearls of wisdom here but I've met a diplomate who told me that she was one of the evaluaters of CPE when she was a resident. And she's never failed anyone but only one foreign vet who injected something in a wrong way to a horse (i didn't really understand what she said, cuz i'm not a horse person, but apparently it was a rocky mistake in equine medicine).

Anyway, the good news is they don't really fail you unless you do a really bad thing, which I'm pretty sure you won't.

When you post your experience here, do you mind sharing it with me at vetyoko223@yahoo.com? I put a website together at http://yoko.ambrosini.us so that we can share our experience. I would love to share your background and your success story on my website.

Good luck to you on your CPE. Wish you the best!

Well, let me tell you that for the CPE you really have to be prepared!!! I don't know if Vegas really is harder than any other site, but it was probably the most stressful three days of my life!!! Once you get your manual of administration, make sure that your know every section inside and out. I strongly suggest that you find doctors that will help you review the sections and that you get hands-on practice before taking the test. Make sure you start studying this even before you ask for your application (found on the AVMA website): http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/cpe_common_diagnoses.pdf

I passed four sections and need to retake three: food animal, anesthesia, and surgery. I felt that I did relatively well in food animal and anesthesia so I am requesting feedback on my scores before I apply to retake those sections. They are particularly picky about the anesthesia and surgery sections, so review, review, review! Another site with a lot of good review info is: http://vetvideos.com/

Best of luck to you all!

For those who want to know...I think the surgery section of the CPE is the most difficult to prepare for because many foreign schools don't necessarily teach the "correct" way of prepping for surgery, such as scrubbing, gowning, draping, etc... Not to mention it is hard to get experience doing surgery if you are not licenced in the US. If anyone has good tips on how to prep for this section of the CPE, we would greatly appreciate it!

yes you can take both NAVLE and BCSE in your Country, just go in the AVMA-ECFVG page and read the candidate bulletin and in the NBVME web page for the NAVLE bulletin, pretty much every single question you can possibly have about how to enroll, pay, register, change dates, location...etc will be in the bulletin, I mean everything, its all matter of going in the web site and cautiously read it, the only thing that you won't find in there is specific info about the actual exam, such as questions obviously, but all the proceedings are very well explained

The average annual salary for veterinarians in the Federal Government was $93,398 in March 2009.

According to a survey by the American Veterinary Medical Association, average starting salaries of veterinary medical college graduates in 2008 varied by type of practice as follows:

Small animals, exclusively $64,744
Large animals, exclusively 62,424
Small animals, predominantly 61,753
Mixed animals 58,522
Large animals, predominantly 57,745

Hi I am new to this forum, I just took the BCSE in November and I got my results yesterday, I passed on BCSE and I am taking NAVLE in April, also I want to register for the CPE, I have heard that takes quite a bit of time even a year to get a spot, however My step 1 is still incomplete and I sent the transcripts and diploma notarized copies, but I think the ECFVG also sends a form with my picture that has to signed by the Dean of my school and then returned to the ECFVG, my school in Brazil is not the best when come to paperwork, not even mention that I dought that any secretary that could possibly have gotten that actually Knows English, therefore not having a clue what is about, maybe even got ready of it, anyway, I tried to call and mail ECFVG coordinator to ask what is still missing so I can take care of it, but no luck so far...no response, so I would like to ask you guys what were the documents you guys had to send and your school to complete step 1...OHHH YEahh I forgot to mention why I am asking, is because I got a memorandum with my scores saying that now We cannot register for the CPE before steps 1, 2, and 3 are completed, before I know you could , except you wouldn't get your certificate of completion, but you could register for the test, anyway they change the rules for that just now in DEcember...my luck...

thanks for any info

Hi guys!
Just in case you don't know there are 2 ways to get our license.

One is through the ECFVG program of the AVMA
http://www.avma.org/education/ecfvg/default.asp

the other is through the PAVE program of the AAVSB
http://www.aavsb.org/PAVE/PAVEHome.aspx

Here is a link where they compare both programs:

Hi all,
just wanted to let you know I finally got my ECFVG certificate!
I started thus journey in September 2009. I choose ECFVG cause is accepted in all US.
to complete step 1 I got all my records and scores from Vet School. Got them stamped by Education and Exterior Relationship Ministers in Peru. Then got them officially translated to english ( it was way cheaper to do it in Peru) and sent all that to AVMA / ECFVG.
To complete step 2. I took TOEFL. I had to take it twice to get the score required.
For step 3. I used zukureview for 5 months. 100 questions/day for 4-5 days a week.
for NAVLE I studied Zuku again. Did not pass. The second time I used Vetprep for 4 months.
For step 4 I took it very close to second NAVLE. I practiced sx in Peru. And watched a lot of videos from Youtube about large animals and horses. I failed anesthesia.
I retook anesthesia in jan 17-18in Vegas. And passed!

So there you have it that is my formula. I was working as Vet Tech the whole time. The Drs. helped me a lot with questions and explanations.

This is the end of this journey, I hope you don't give up and persevere.
I made some good friends here and during tests. I wish you the best to you all.

Hello everybody,
I have just passed the NAVLE and I will try to take the CPE sometime around august in vegas. I would really appreciate any suggestions on study materials that you have used or if you could share your experiences. Has anybody tried the vcrc? Any reliable necropsy manuals or videos?
Best of luck to you all..
By the way, for BCSE, I used mosby veterinary technician book and vetprep for NAVLE..

I think there are no problem to get a H1 visa as long as there is someone would like to hire you. I know in some states it is not necessary to have license of vet assistant as long as you have vet degree. good luck
Thank you for your reply.
Hopefully it will work out.

Hello all:)
I'm Japanese veterinarian graduated from vet university in Japan 2011.
Now I am working at livestock hygiene center as a public vet in Japan.
Although I don't have clinical experience except practices in university, I'm interested in having veterinary internship especially equine field in USA, Canada or UK.
So is it possible for me without clinical experience to pass the residency matching program by AAVC? Or I should apply after working in equine vet clinic in Japan for years?

I'm new here and am so happy to find such a wonderful forum to talk about our veterinary career with vets from all over the world!
In Japan it's hard to get useful information, so please give me advice.

Thank you for reading

Hello all,

I just wanted to let you know that I've passed QE this Jan 2012. Getting into a clinical year probably this Sep. I posted the study materials that I used on my website yoko.ambrosini.us. (it's under "share your experience"). My friend who just passed BCSE also agreed to put her study materials on the website, so those of you who're doing ECFVG should check out my website too.

I will try my best to share my experience with new people so please don't hesitate to email me (vetyoko223@yahoo.com) when you have questions. For example, I didn't know that people were having hard time finding study materials for QE or BCSE. I thought this forum would be enough! But now I'm getting a lot of emails regarding the study materials (and apparently some people don't want to share...), so now I know that I should post that on my website. So please please ask questions so I know what is needed for new foreign vets to get US licensure.

Also, if you already passed exams or CPE, it would be great if you can share your experience, study materials for new foreign vets. Shoot me an email with your experience!

Good luck to everybody and wish me luck on finishing this process soon!
Yoko
