This is directed at those of you a few years ahead of me.

The last month of my internship is an anesthesiology elective (sweet) at Virginia Mason, where I'm doing my internship. Then I move back to the UW to start my R-2/CA-1 year. What should I expect/try to get out of that month? Should I be a little pushy about trying to maximize my experience, or should I be on the chill side, and use my free time to read? What would some of you suggest?

Thanks.

Chill, read, and relax. You'll have plenty of time to master your craft when you start at university of washington.

yup. relax. but let me add one thng that you may want to consider. academia is a weird little society. even though you will have 3 years to master your craft, attendings seem to cling to first impressions. if you have one month on top of the rest of your class, you'll surely stand out. just try to be smooth in the or and get some intubations. but mainly, relax.

I first off all have to brag that I have a mere 6 working days of residency here at UW....(1 week of vacation then 4 weeks of elective/TEE/boards study)...
I would just use your elective month to get comfortable in the OR again, brush up on your airway skills, ect. Don't kill yourself. No one expects you to know anything, so having your anesthesia month in June means you'll be ahead of the game no matter what.
And the really beautiful thing is that none of the R-2's have any call or weekend responsibilities in the summer...
Good luck at the 'Dub, its been a great ride for me, but I'm soooo excited to be done!!!! :D
