I have not had a rotation for nearly a year...been doing research abroad and will not be back to the states until mid-June. I have an away scheduled for August and am working on scheduling a second (my school doesn't have an EM residency) for either July or Sept. I am worried about performing well and getting good letters after being away for clinical medicine for so long. Any suggestions? Thoughts about how I might convince some department to let me "refresh" my skills in an unofficial rotation? Is such a thing heard of?

Does your school at least have an Emergency Department? I would think surely they would allow you to 'shadow' down there and let you have any/all procedures, etc.
