Anyone interested? I'm pre-med myself, but being from the horse racing capital I have an interest.

Anyone have a pick for Saturday?

Brother Derek - He is Socal based like Giacomo!! Hopefully he can triple crown.

I have thought about becoming a track vet - however working with professional horseman they will tell you what to do, and not really ask your opinion.

My pick is SteppinWolfer. Has my favorite jockey Robbie Albarado, its grey, and its a closer. Its going to get a nice price if it comes in.

See Brother Derek was born on my birthday too!!! Champions are born on that day - I am sure he will be an awesome stud too, sire many stakes winners.

I would not be disapointed to see Lawyer Ron win - his owner died earlier this year, and Lawyer Ron was breed on his farm. That old time charm of a family, and farm sits well with me!!

I sure wish I was going to be there! It is on my life list of things to do :).
Anybody think we'll have a triple crown winner? It is about time!

I'll be paying my $40 to go have fun with the lowly college folks.

Sweethnorthernsaint could do it given the right circumstances, according to my boss' husband. He is a master handicapper and if he says so, I believe him ;)

Yeah for the infield! Don't get too drunk and/or arrested. Brett, do you go to U of L?

No, I go to Midway College outside of Lexington. Gorgeous day for horse racing today, eh? :)

When it comes to numbers, you cannot go wrong with a closer in horse racing. I ran long distance track/XC and I will pick a finisher in the long run. There's nothing like that kick from the final turn and if it's combined with an 'on' day, the race is over....human or otherwise. Today was a fine example. Still, Belmont remains as the defining race of a champion horse (as far as I can remember). Afleet Alex was close, but only a Secretariat or an Affirmed could show us what exactly it meant to be a natural at all three distances.

I did not realise one of Mike Matz horses was in the race, or I would have been behind him the whole time - I know his son fairly well, we played polo tgoether down in S.D.

That horse is looking good - I wonder after only being raced every 35 days, if he will be able to trople crown.

Well you could look at it two ways...
One, He won't be able to do it because he is not fit enough after racing lightly, or
Two, He'll be much more rested and better prepared for the grueling TC schedule that his more heavily raced counterparts

Personally I hope its number 2! We need a TC winner, and wouldn't it be ironic that someone gets it done the first year that there isn't the $5mil bonus? hehe ;)

I do not think because he has a longer interval between races he is any less fit then the other horses, or the extra previous rest is going to be beneficial.

The question is after having a longer then usual time to bounce back to racing form, can he do it quicker?? He will need to if he is going to triple crown.

Awww, you go to Midway? I applied and was accepted there (I'm from Mass) but my parents didn't think the science program was strong enough to make Tufts happy (ugh; and that was not an insult to you or the college). Looking back, I should have gone because I know I would have made much more of my time there than I did up north. I'm jealous :p

So Barbaro is in a private training facility, grazing under trees when he is not training - Mike Matz is talking of not taking him to Pimlico till the last minute - can not wait till next weekend!!

Lol, I just graduated from Midway today and I was accepted to Tufts (as well as Penn, Colorado, and North Carolina) on my first app cycle this year, it can be done! ;)

Thats a pretty common thought tho, and Im not insulted in the least. They've really been pushing the Bio program the last couple years and they are starting to turn out some really nice Bio majors. I was Equine Science (BS) though.
