Hello all,
I am a NRI student considering India for dental school. I have narrowed my choices to two schools: Manipal or DY Patil in Mumbai.
Which school is best for someone born and brought up in America but still close to Indian culture? Which school is best for someone wishing to go back to America to practice but wouldn't mind staying anywhere in India and practicing there also?
I know these are difficult questions to answer for someone else, but you all are the experts compared to me. Note: Both schools are rapidly approaching their NRI application deadlines, so pleeeeeeease let me know ASAP. Thanks!

hi there, well, all i can say is that clinically and otherwise manipal is really good but if u are looking at enjoying or college life then dy patil is the one. the good thing about manipal is that it might be accredited by the california dental board in the near future.

I will borrow our fellow SDNer Cheer_up's phrase "if you want to practice dentistry in North America ..study in North America.." (words to that effect)
Dental Council of India recognises some DDS degrees from my understanding of what was in their website.Check it out www.dciindia.org
This way if you get to practice in either place.
Manipal is a good school and I can't comment on the one in Punjab coz I don't know anything about it.
But later if you decide to practice in the US,you will need to go through the advance standing program and it is tough to get into one.You may already know that by browsing the threads. :)
good luck

Why would you want to attend dental school in India if you are from the US (NRI)? D(M)ental already said it - if you think you want to practice here, stay here. Read through the other threads on this board to see what the grads of Indian dental schools have to go through to practice here. Basically you have to enroll in an International Dentist Program (IDP) to re-do 2 - 3 years of dental school and earn a US DDS/DMD at the end of it.
