I am just curious to find out if anyone here is going to attend Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal in August 2006. I was also wondering if any of you know when and how long their breaks are (Christmas and Summer). And for the people who have been to MCDOS, Manipal, what did you think of the school and your experience. I would appreciate any response to this thread. BTW, I have had a few conversations with the California Dental Board in the past few weeks and if everything goes according to schedule, their TAG team will make their decision whether or not to approve the school at their August meeting.

Hi Darknight,
I graduated from manipal 6 yrs back. The dental program is good and I learnt a lot in those 5yrs. I am practicing now in MN (lucky there coz I didnt had to go thru the 2 yr refresher). But apart from the studies, its a lovely place, university town, u will meet people frm different parts of the world. So,there's 2cents. If u need anything, u r sure welcome.

Hello Avi7,
I am considering attending the school this August since it might get approved by cali board and I won't have to do the 2 year refresher. I've heard that the profs target NRI's and try to make it much harder for them to pass the course than the other students, do you think this is true? Is the school recognized in MN or something, why didn't you have to do the 2 year refresher course? If I would want to practice in MN and graduate from Manipal, would I have to do the 2 yr refresher? Do you think it's worth it for me to go there, if I want to come back to the states and practice?
Thanks,
Darknightz83

Hey all. Good to hear that the MAHE degree would be accredited by California Board. Do any of you guys know if that would be true for CODS Mangalore too or just CODS Manipal. I graduated from CODS Mangalore in 2002. Currently on F1 .

If it does get approved, it will be only for CODS Manipal.

I'm in a Dellima about being and FDG myself...I'm going to be a senior in High School this august here in California. I was debating over it..

I was thinking about Sri Ramachandra Medical College. Is a Dental Degree from there recognized by the California Dental Board? How would I find out?

Also, If it is Recognized, what will I have to do after I come here in order to be able to practice?

What will I have to do if SRMC's Dental Degree isn't recognized by the Cali Dental Board?

It would make my life a whole lot easier if someone answered these questions. :o

Thanks!

Well, Not Dental Exactly..I'm just brainstorming. Nothing wrong in Doing it here. but I'm also looking into other things, like physiotherapy and Psycology. I was just wondering about the procedures etc in India, because it is cheaper from what I have read on the net. :) Also, I would love to study in India, rather than here.

what is your educational back ground ?

what career exactly you would like to choose?

if you are an american citizen and want to choose a profession then other than medicine , dentistry is better , moreover you have a better chance to get inot american dental schools , for even getting into a speciality in future , even with a less scores compared to foreign trained dentists.

so dont look for cheap , you are in the right place , make a right move , as you are crossroads of your professional life.

anything else

post it or pm me.

THanks for the reply. :)

But if I do do it in India, then what would it be like if I came back here? What procedures would I have to go through? Someone once told me that I'd end up doing 3 years again here..is that always true?

yes , thas true

you may have to do for 2-3 years depending on the dental school you might get admission

in majority of east coast colleges , NYU, boston ,etc you might have to do more than 2 years of dentistry agian .

where as in case of westcoast school s ex. californian dental schools you can finish off in 2 calender years

rest of the USA , they dont have provisions for FOREIGN TRAINED DENTISTS , which means they dont accept , even you might be a US citizen .

so its upto you , IN THE MOMENTS OF DESICION MAKING LIES YOUR DESTINY.

i hope you are an american citizen, so if i were in your place , i would nt be having even second thought s about leaving US for foreign countries for studies , especially professional studies.

primary & secondary Schooling i agrre , India is better than US.

Really? We still do it if the Med School we graduate from is recognized by the California Dental Board?

By the way there is no shortage of dentists in california, in fact they are surplus( 32000 to be exact and counting).

hi....
just so everyone knows, the california board came and made a huge list of changes the college had to commit to. unfortunately that didn't happen. so the california board only accredited a school in mexico this year. when someone called them, they said that manipal was not interested in complying to any of the changes, so they had to move forward without accrediting them... just so you all know. its too bad, we all were hoping that would be the case. if it does happen again next year, the changes would only be effective for the batch that JOINS the following year. Just fyi...
