I hear the Honda Fit is a good car. You should either get that or the Scion Xa. I would buy and not lease though. They are inexpensive enough where you shouldn't have to lease.

I leased a brand new civic. Perfect for gas milage. It is also fitting because civics deappreciate more than say an accord. If ur credit is good, i highly recommend financing rather than leasing.

I lease and I love it. I was told when I was looking for a lease that you actually want a car with a high residual value because they are cheaper to lease, since they're worth more after those 3-4 years.

My lease really isn't much more expensive in the long-run than buying and it's been worth it to me as I didn't have much credit at the time or lots of cash for a down payment. My monthly payments are only $210; it would be hard to finance a car for that little. Plus my car was brand-new and everything is under warranty including the tires. I also have free 24/7 roadside assistance. I've had my car for 1 1/2 years and have nothing but good things to say about my experience. For my situation, it is what worked best.

Leasing is a good option if you can't buy as long as you
1) stay under the miles allowed -- if you go over miles the penalties can be high
2) keep the car in pristine condition -- the dealerships love to charge for wear and tear
The warranty is a great option, but many car companies have certified pre-owns with warranties.
I personally like to buy Japanese or German cars but, for a year, you may be able to get an American car like a Ford Focus pretty cheap. Hundai (sp?) also seems good in the short run. Diclaimer: These are just my observations :) ; check on Edmunds and/or Kelly Blue Book for info.
Good :luck: !

A used 01-04 civic with less than 50k miles can be had for 9-10k. If you pay a few grand down, your payments wouldn't be much. I would do this because I wouldn't want to worry about staying under certain mileage or being charged for wear and tear. You'd also have a car that could be sold at any time---If you kept it 4 yrs, it would still sell for 3-4k.

I like knowing a car is mine....not borrowing it.

I have no idea what the lease terms are like because I bought mine, but I got a Nissan Altima earlier this year and love it! They have a pretty wide range of pricing on this car - it has a 2.5 and a 3.5 engine, so the bottom of the line 2.5 is significantly cheaper than the larger engine cars with all the bells and whistles. Mine is right in the middle - I got the 2.5 with leather. Also, Nissan has a smaller car (Sentra, I think).
