I wrote this song for our annual follies at WVSOM. I took all the stuff I heard about 3rd and 4th year rotations and made a song out of it. Everyone loved it when I performed it live last week. I hope you guys who are rotating get some enjoyment out of it also. I'll be joining you all June 19th! Scary huh? :P

Prelude: In 1874, a new class of worker was born into the medical community. These people would pay thousands of dollars to do the jobs no other medical professional wants to do. These workers, with a handful of hopes and dreams would brave these toils for 2 long years. We are the future doctors of America…we are the “Scut Monkeys.”

Verse 1:

Got my white coat on and I’m ready to go
3rd year has arrived and I’m going to show
That I got mad skills and I’m part of the team
Black shoes, nice tie and living my dream.

Preceptor greets me on my nervous first day
Gives me a chart and sends me on my way
I walk in the room and what do I see
A pregnant patient who throws up on me!

Chorus 1:

I’m a SCUT MONKEY! (Yelled out by chorus)
Writing H&Ps
SCUT MONKEY!
Treating STDs
SCUT MONKEY!
Got so much to do!
SCUT MONKEY!
Taking care of you!

Verse 2

5 A.M, it’s time for rounds
The Surgeon pimps me out and he shakes us down
Gonna hold that retractor all day long
Don’t sneeze Don’t cough, Ya better stay strong!

Most of our grades are pulled out of a hat
And I’m gettin’ criticized on my verbose format
I’m dig the nurses, they dig me too
Ya better not touch, they’ll sue the hell out of you!

Chrous 2:

I’m A SCUT MONKEY
Try a spinal tap
SCUT MONKEY
Clean up all the crap
SCUT MONKEY
I haven’t a clue
SCUT MONKEY
Taking care of you!

BRIDGE BREAKDOWN

Harmony

You might say it’s inhumane
To slave hours without pay
But we love people, Our hearts are true
It’s just what we have to do

A patient presents in acute distress
They run for cover and order tests
I used my hands and kept her alive
Cause I found the problem
She’s got failure to thrive….ahhhhhh yeahhhh ahhhh
She’s got failure to thrive!

Optional Solo

Verse 3

Intern year and it’s all the same
Except that now I am the one to blame
When someone screws up while I’m sleeping on call
So I’m rewriting orders in the bathroom stall

But now during rounds I think it is neat
How we turn it around and the cycle repeats
Got my own scut monkeys to put through this strife
And so I think to myself “OH MAN! I LOVE THIS LIFE!”

Chorus x 3

I’m a SCUT MONKEY! (Yelled out by chorus)
Never getting sleep
SCUT MONKEY!
Never get to eat
SCUT MONKEY!
Oh please do not sue!
SCUT MONKEY!
Taking care of you!

I’m a SCUT MONKEY! (Yelled out by chorus)
Oh man, pediatrics! (Yelled out)
SCUT MONKEY!
Make those babies cry! (YELLED OUT)
SCUT MONKEY!
We haven’t a clue!
SCUT MONKEY!
Taking care of you!

SCUT MONKEY!
Come on sing along ya’ll
SCUT MONKEY!!
Raise the roof!
SCUT MONKEY!!!
I haven’t a clue
SCUT MONKEY!!!!
Taking care of you!

*Random Mayhem here*

Taking care of Youuuuuu. (One last chord)

It's the med. student montage. Just got to show highlights of 3rd year during the video.
