View Full Version : early decision to albany w/o ochem grades
AtomicLuv 05-15-2006, 09:38 AM Hi all,
I want to apply to albany early decision, but I have not taken ochem or microbio or human physiology,
I have taken the rest of the requirements though...
my overal gpa is 3.56, science is about 3.3 (from a university)
(my major is listed as English with concentration in creative writing but I am probably not going to pursue it)
(I also didn't get this semester grades yet)
do you think that I have absolutely no chance in getting in? this school is my first choice, and if I apply now early decision (by sept 1), then I could just finish up the pre-reqs in a year and not finish my 4th year in undergrad (just go into pharm school after 3 yrs) I also plan to get pharmacy experience this summer, and I have a bunch of other extracuriculars (RA in dorm)
what do y'all think? good idea or not? (I am also very good at writing essays!!!)
seems like the only thing I would be losing in trying is over $200?
ForcTe 05-15-2006, 09:53 AM First, you cannot apply for early decision because you are not done with your prerequisites.
That's the rule, sorry!
Second, you must have a 4.0 GPA to get into Albany if you are a transfer. Even if you have a 3.99 GPA, they won't accept you because they have only a few spots!
Last, Albany doesn't require any essay. They merely sort students by GPA, and take the highest ones!
You better apply to another school!

Yes, finishing prereqs are a must for early decision so you are not qualified. However, a 4.0 GPA is a bit exaggerated, but you need to have very high GPA for Albany, at least 3.8 or above.
calrx 05-15-2006, 11:05 AM I agree with the other posters. I think you may have a difficult time getting into Albany with those stats. Since they don't require the PCAT, LORs, supplemental essays, or interview, Albany is completely a numbers game. I have yet to hear of a transfer getting accepted with below a 3.7 GPA (cum + science GPAs). You sound like a strong candidate so why don't you apply to a few others schools as well?
AtomicLuv 05-15-2006, 01:40 PM Why are there so few spots if they have a seperate accelerated program for people coming out of college? Isn't this program different from the program that takes high school students? I was under the impression there were 2 different programs, one 0-6 for hs students, and one for college students (3 yrs), they must be different because the hs students have summer breaks and the acelerated program does not.
if so, why is it so difficult to get into this accelerated program?
PRINCESS_IJ 05-16-2006, 06:11 AM does it mean that to apply to any pharmacy school as early decision option that one must have completed all prerequisites? what if the person is completing the last batch of prerequisites while applying and has take the pcat?
kellia 05-16-2006, 08:48 AM As someone already mentioned, Albany is strictly a numbers school. Also, stats from last year stated that there was a 30:1 ratio of applicants to acceptances. That's incredibly competitive. Most schools sit around 3-7:1. Also, since your prereqs aren't complete, early decision is out. I'm not trying to discourage you from applying, but it would be a good idea to have a back-up plan/school(s).

I don't know about the rule at Albany, but I know that you can apply early decision to some pharmacy schools while still completing prereqs.
When I applied to KY, I had not completed A&P2, physics or econ.
