View Full Version : Allergies!!!! Baxter81 05-15-2006, 04:50 PM Anyone from Southern California suffering from allergies right now??? It's kinda windy so I'm hoping it is allergies. RachGator 05-15-2006, 05:31 PM I'm not in So Cal right now, but my allergies here in Florida are awful. My county being on fire isn't helping. It is usually humid here but for the last few months it feels more like Vegas than Florida! The nosebleeds are the nastiest part. I guess I'll need to get used to it for Texas. If you are wondering about your area, weather.com, the Weather Channel site, usually has allergen info. Feel better :) . JWirawan 05-15-2006, 10:43 PM I'm allergic to humid weather :(... When I was still in Indonesia, my nose would be stuffed all day long unless I were in a room with air conditioner. I think Florida would be a hell hole for my nose. sarahjth 05-15-2006, 11:04 PM they said this is the worst year for allergies ever according to good morning america. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown TrojanAnteater 05-15-2006, 11:31 PM Anyone from Southern California suffering from allergies right now??? I think after 24 years the smog is starting to get to me, especially now that i've moved right into the middle of ground zero. Can't wait to graduate and move into clean air. sdn1977 05-16-2006, 11:03 PM I'm in N. CA & things are really bad here....in addition, fexofenadine & Patanol are back ordered & I run out of fluticasone daily. I think its because we had about 2 hours of spring - and everything started to bloom/open at once. So...we have grasses, blooms, the dust (or molds) from the breeze all at once. On top of that...everyone is out driving now & I think $3/gallon exhaust is more allergenic than the previous versions ;) . luckyPharmD.stu 05-18-2006, 12:40 PM i don't get...i took claritin and it had no effect, but when i took clarinex, it worked for awhile. i dunno much about medicine, but aren't these two medicine the same (brand name is different)? allergy medication don't work for me at all, btw. PharmB10 05-18-2006, 01:01 PM Alavert (loratadine) works the best for me. I take one a day, and I rarely have allergy problems any more. I'm just outside of Houston, where the pollution and allergens are notorious. DuocSi2010 05-18-2006, 06:16 PM I used to take Allegra and it worked for a year. Alavert taste bad. fob12 05-19-2006, 10:33 AM I used to take Allegra and it worked for a year. Alavert taste bad. Douc Si=Pharmacist...I know my Vietnamese. I haven't found an allergy med that made me feel better or didn't make me feel edgy. Ijeoma 05-19-2006, 12:22 PM Texas, here, but yes. My eyes burn and I have no energy at all. I wake up dizzy and puffy every morning. I hate it. I haven't found an allergy med that made me feel better or didn't make me feel edgy. Oh boy! I too am having real bad allergies here in Dallas. My nose is bloody and im spitting phlegm like a 700 times a day and im cleaning my nose, sneezing. Do i have the bird flu? lol Baxter81 05-19-2006, 02:48 PM Well... Clariten didnt do jack for me so i ditched it, and now I am taking a combo of Flonase and xyrtec..This works great for me, and this is the 3rd day that I am allergy free!! I need to see if its ok to take these two together..anyone know?? hahah...but hey it works and I feel good. sdn1977 05-19-2006, 09:55 PM Yep....Flonase & Zyrtec is a rational combination - a nasal steroid & oral h1 antihistamine. For most people...the second generations antihistamines lose effectiveness over time because they are competitive antagonists. This means when an antigen has a greater affinity for the receptor than the anthihistamine itself, the antigen will knock the antihistamine off. In addition...there is speculation some of these h1 blocker may induce liver enzymes which increase rate of metabolism. The P450 enzyme system is involved in metabolism, but the specific subenzymes have not been fully identified. So....its not a surprise your antihistamine may lose effectiveness over time. Try another one for awhile then you should be able to go back. Also..Clarinex is desloratidine, which is the active metabolite of loratidine (Claritin). It was marketed only because claritin was approved for otc status & Schering wanted a product which would still compete in the rx market. Probably more than any of you wanted to know...... :( Julianne 05-20-2006, 09:04 AM Probably more than any of you wanted to know...... :( No such thing, sdn - Always enjoy reading your posts (consistently informative and helpful) and look forward to learning these types of things in school come fall :) Baxter81 05-20-2006, 12:17 PM Yep....Flonase & Zyrtec is a rational combination - a nasal steroid & oral h1 antihistamine. I lived there for 18 years and my parents still live there. When I go back there, I get allergies that I never had before when I was in the other place. Hence my allergies are nonexistent somewhere else, but when I go back there voila! And this especially happens during Christmas break! There will be no foliage on the trees where I am going to school as a grad student, but I will drive back for 12-16 hours, and in West Palm Beach, the growing season is all year! luckyPharmD.stu 05-29-2006, 12:03 PM thanks sdn, i thought nobody was going to answer my question...haha DuocSi2010 05-29-2006, 03:46 PM Douc Si=Pharmacist...I know my Vietnamese.
