HEY GUYS,
I'm a us med student and I was wondering whether we can train in Canada. I really want to go to the oto program at McGill; is that possible as a US citizen/grad? Have people done it before. Has anyone heard anything about UToronto or McGill's programs in Oto? Plz respond.

Don't know, but I have seen plenty of Canadians come to do residency or fellowship in the US.

Canadian programs typically are way crazier than US ones because we don't have the work hours limits that you do. We also do more cases so you'll be hopefully better. I don't know for ENT exactly though but for other surg subspecialities our program directors need to sign off on our caselogs because they don't believe we do so many cases.
One HUGE problem though is that ENT training in Canada does not make you US board eligible unless you started before 2000 which I'm guessing you didn't :)
Unless you like hockey and Molson's and wanna move up here with us Canucks, you probably shouldn't apply.

I am a medical student at McGill and I am interested in oto as well. I am not sure on the situation in the US, but oto is VERY competitive in Canada with only 22 spots across Canada and a matching rate in the 60s this year. Also, the fact that you are American can hinder you in the application process (but that varies depending on the school, I know McGill do take American for residency).
In terms of the programs, really most if not all oto residency programs across Canada are good. Although I did not experience it first hand, I heard that training is a lot more hand-on in Canada than in the US due to issues with malpractice in the US... From what I have seen at McGill, residents generally work 7-6 most week days plus call.
