Are there significant opportunities in the private sector for CCM trained anesthesiologists to be full time intensivists?

Maybe Mil will pipe in....but if you do a forum search of the anesthesiology forum - this question has been addressed muliple times. IN fact you started a thread on this in the anesthesiology forum - so I guess you have looked there! Since I am probably going to do a critical care fellowship through the anesthesia route - I hope you get some good responses here too!

I have heard, as I am sure you have also, that there is a trend coming that would allow for anesthesia to branch out more into critical care. I can't speak specifically to that, but I can tell you about intensivists in my area. We have two full time house intensivists, and they are pulmonologists by trade. The pulmonologists function as intensivists when they are on the case, or they can be consulted specifically as intensivists. I would say be careful about the set up though because these guys are oncall straight for 7 days a week, rotating every other week.

No, not a lot in private practice....especially full time.
