I was wondering if there is an official way of classifying keratoconus. I have been searching for older articles but so far nothing has come up. It's funny that everyone recognizes 60D as severe, but there is no real scale of quantifying it. The newer ways of classification depend on wavefront analysis. It would be great if someone can point me towards an article or just give their thoughts. Thanks!

great post. wish i knew of an article to refer to. i always wonder when i get a first time patient who "lost their glasses" and i find 5 diopters of K astigmatism. is it new? do they just have physiological astigmatism? do i classify them as keratoconic? we have a topcon 8000pa, which does topo, and ive been trying to find a distinctive pattern of toricity for cones. i havent. certainly, though, pellucid degeneration is distinguishable. i guess i just classify someone who has progressive steepening over time. right or wrong, i dont know. im gonna ask our corneal fellow.
