I'm serving on the AAO Advocacy Course Committee and we're discussing ways to promote and encourage residents, fellows, and young ophthalmologists to attend the AAO Advocacy Course at the AAO Meeting in Las Vegas this year. We're planning to give away door prizes. Please give me your input so I can report back to the AAO. Thanks!

If you come to the AAO meeting and attend, then medical students would be eligible too I suppose. Just put down that you're a "member-in-training". :)

Sounds great! Good thing I will be 21 by then.

I was just wondering as to what I would do there. Do med students ever go there by themselves? Can you say you were there when you apply for residency?

I've met numerous medical students from this forum who later became residents. These students were presenting their research at the meeting. If you present a poster, then you can put this on your CV/application.

You can also attend courses to learn more about ophthalmology and issues in the field. For this AAO Advocacy Course, we're interested in teaching residents, fellows, and ophthalmologists about what they can do to protect their future as physicians & surgeons.

Very interesting. I may have a poster by then. Is there a deadline for submission? Also do you have to be sponsored by a faculty member in order to present a poster?

Check the AAO site, I think you're past the deadline so save your poster for next year. Also, you need a faculty sponsor to present.

Good luck!
