I've read several places that say it occurs only in tetra formation during Meiosis Prophase I. Other places suggest it happens in Meiosis Metaphase. I originally thought metaphase. Any definite answer here?

leptotene stage of prophase I in meiosis

What's leptotene stage? are there any other substage like that for the other main stages?

I had this question on the real DAT.

The answer was Meiosis Prophase I.

I wouldn't worry about these substages...the DAt won't test on them unless they suddenly decided last week to make the test 10000% harder.

Just remember that Crossing Over occurs in Prophase I of meiosis, and you be fine...just watch out for the trick answer:

c) on late night TV with John Edwards

this is a trick aswer...do not fall for it.
