i am confused with these two concepts ..

totipotent- stem cells that can become ANY cell

pluripotent- stem cells that can become most types of tissue... mesoderm is pluripotent because it can form the blood and heart, but it can only form those types of tissue (and not other tissue formed by the other germ layers)

Lots of books use these two words interchangably. The distinction's not that brightline.

totipotent cells are going to be those cell present in the first few divisions after fertilization, they can give rise to embryonic and extraembryonic tissue.

Pluripotent are cells that can give rise to all embryonic tissue
