View Full Version : Personal Statements
DVM2Be2011 08-19-2006, 04:46 PM Are any of you who have gotten into vet school this previous year interested in sharing your personal statements? I am a pretty decent writer, but I would like to beef up my statement for this year's cycle, and would like some others to see how others are talking about themselves. My email address is stagncd@auburn.edu if anyone would like to share. Thanks!! Good luck with your 1st year.

I have just sent you mine. Good luck. I had to rewrite it like six times. Make sure you have as many people as possible read it. Preferably someone with a writing background. I got into two schools with it. Good luck!
PAThbrd 08-19-2006, 09:59 PM I PM'ed my statement from last app cycle to you. If anyone else is interested, I dont mind sharing, just let me know.
Best of luck! and be prepared to write, and re-write, and re-write some more ;)

I would definitely be interested PAThbrd, and if there is anyone else that wouldn't mind sharing I would be so appreciative. I have a rough draft done, but I am still feeling a little lost on how to nail it.

Best of luck!
I'm just getting ready to send my application off, well, I was done with the WHOLE application process like 2 months ago but the essay part, holy moly, has been kickin my butt! I would love to see someone else's essay. Mine is mostly done but jeez its so hard to talk about yourself. I end up sounding so one dimensional:
"I like animals. I am smart. I am good student. I am try hard. I am friendly." lol.
Ok the essay isn't quite that bad, but it's not much better either! I'd really appreciate some help =)
UKYWildcat 08-22-2006, 07:49 PM I'd be willing to send my essays from last year but I don't have the computer anymore and it was the greatest feeling to send my printed VMCAS application through the paper shredder the other day :-) Sorry no help but good luck everyone!

Hiya, if you or anyone else doesn't mind it would be fantastic to have some personal statments to read for advice etc.
I've written a first draft but it's too long and not worded very well so i definitely need help!
My email address is shine_bluesky@hotmail.com if you want to share.
Thanks a bundle in advance!

shine_bluesky 08-25-2006, 08:53 AM Thank you so much, really useful!
Just wondering, I'm english and we have a 4000 character limit (including spaces); but the PS i just got its 6,250. Do you Americans not have a word limit or just a longer one?
:)

I think the character limit is 6,250 on VMCAS and I was just at that (I even had to find some shorter synonyms for some words and take out adjectives to fit it ;))
thesonofdarwin 09-18-2006, 08:27 AM I'd like to read others as well, if you wouldn't mind sharing. Deadlines are coming upon us fast, and I'm worried! :scared: Would be nice to see that I have something along the lines of other people who got accepted :)
etiush 09-19-2006, 01:06 AM I would also be interested in any statements, it would be very helpful etiush@gmail.com or PM :) Best of Luck
JCVet99 09-28-2006, 10:45 PM If anyone could send me a copy as well, I would greatly appreciate the help towards fine tuning my statement. Like everyone else, rough draft is finished and I am just looking for that 'finished' feeling I should get after reading it but its not there yet. Thanks!
maconway 07-22-2009, 06:50 PM it would be of great help to read some of the essays. English is not my first language so it would be of great help.

crittergal 08-03-2009, 06:02 PM I'd like to be included on the PM personal statements. I too am struggling with getting a beautiful final draft.
Pathbird and chemokine, would you mind sharing with me as well?
zpsid91 08-03-2009, 06:41 PM Would anyone PM their personal statement to me? This will be my 2nd time applying...
bunnity 08-04-2009, 11:34 PM Just so you guys know this thread was started in 2006, so the original people may not be frequenting this board as much anymore.
spikey 08-11-2009, 01:00 PM I remember the torture of writing mine :p
Remember its not going to come from a few drafts - its going to come from A LOT of drafts. The big thing that really helped me with my story is letting a whole bunch of different people read it. Your parents, friends, professors, classmates, veterinarians, technicians, whoever. The more people that can read it and give you input the better. Get ideas down, even if you think they're insignificant, and some people can work them in where you couldn't. This represents a snapshot of you and why they'd like to see more of you, so give it to 'em good! :D

asillym 09-17-2009, 08:04 PM I am new to this forum, and I have been working on a personal statement by taking vague advice from various sources, but ideally I would like to see some personal statements from people who have gotten in to vet school. Being told how to write a scientific paper and having an example are 2 very different things. I think its the same for a personal statement. Anyways could some of you who made it in please send me yours so I can get an idea?
My email is asillym@aol.com.
Thanks,
Asillym
AutumnBelle17 09-19-2009, 06:53 PM Hey all. I have been busting my butt with this personal statement and trying to get it ready to send out Monday, but I am having the hardest time conveying my passion for wanting to go to vet school. If anyone would be willing to share their PS's to give me some ideas I would appreciate it.
Chill1818 09-23-2009, 02:12 PM I'm still pulling my together, but am happy to take a glance at others. I'm not fantastic in the grammar dept, but can give you feedback on content, flow and organization.
And if any vet students are willing to share theirs, I am always in need of inspiration :-)
