View Full Version : bittersweet DAT scores 8/21
jackbauer! 08-21-2006, 03:30 PM Ok, so i took the DAT this morning and here are the scores:
AA: 19 (78%)
TS: 19 (77%)
PAT: 17 (51%)
Bio: 19 (79%)
GChem: 20 (81%)
OChem: 19 (74%)
RC: 20 (66%)
QR: 19 (82%)
B.S. in BioChem
Cum: 3.61
Sci: 3.57
BCP: 3.47
Applied: UF (fla resident), tufts, columbia, penn, maryland, nyu, pacific, and UIC.
I only studied for 2 weeks so that explains why my scores aren't as spectacular as others on SDN. I didn't study for QR at all.... actually I studied for QR during my 15 min break :) ...and i studied for organic and PAT for maybe 3 hrs combined.
Part of me is happy b/c it's done (for now, at least) and the other part is upset b/c i feel like i don't have a shot at top schools with these scores.
Do you think I have a shot at schools like UF, tufts, & maryland with these scores? What about columbia or penn? I think i'm going to retake in 3 months and actually study some this time.
I'd be happy to answer any questions and good luck to all those applying :luck:

QR was a joke, i have NO CLUE how i got a 19....I was breezing through the problems  RC was hard, in my opinion, and i got a 20
passages we're on calcium, aging, and bacterial resistance.

Why didn't you study more this time or postpone the test a few more weeks to study more?
IzzyMarieDMD 08-21-2006, 07:52 PM Good job! Your GPA and scores will definitely get you in.

Bio was pretty easy, easier than i thought it was going to be... kinda surprised i didn't break a 20... shocked i didn't break a 20 in any of the sections. I got the infamous sea urchin question which made me chuckle.
i studied using kaplan mostly and i bought a CliffsNotes Biology book. I also reviewed my friend's ExamKracker book. If you have the time I recommend using Campbells....everyone with high bio scores uses it.
i had lots of questions on origins of life on earth...a couple genetics, mmm some ecology and evolution. a lot of which is the INITIAL step, which is CHIEFLY responsible... blah blah blah... so basically all the answers were related to the question, but you had to know the specifics. sorry i don't remember more but it was a long test.

jackbauer! 08-21-2006, 08:13 PM Why didn't you study more this time or postpone the test a few more weeks to study more?
1. This was my first time taking the test, and
2. I work full-time and my job takes up a lot of my time so i really just wanted to put in my 2 weeks and get out... unfortunately i didn't get the results i wanted. i'm not fortunate enough to have all summer/semester off to study for this test... I do what I can, ya know?

Thanks Izzy......
Your future classmate at UF college of dentistry,
jb! :)
Mackchops 08-21-2006, 08:42 PM Don't sweat it dude, those are solid scores! Above UF's average! And from what I've heard, UF pays a lot more attention to gpa, personal statement, and interview. You've got it in the bag.
Columbia, on the other hand, wasn't granting interviews last year to anyone with less than 22's -- insanity. But you want to go to UF anyway, right? :)
See you at orientation in gainesville next fall -- start working on your chomp.

but their avg was around 21.8. sounds like a tad bit over half got less than 22
IzzyMarieDMD 08-22-2006, 07:22 AM Haha so if I go to UF will I have to take all the Seminole stuff off my car? lol see you there
smnop 08-22-2006, 08:54 AM i think u did really well and will get in ...congratulations
