Hi everyone. I have had a HECK of a hard time finidng out how much a physiatrist makes on average in terms of salary. Is it possible to make $200K? I have no idea.

What type of lifestyle does a PM & R doc have? I am considering staying in the midwest (Missouri).

I am referring to a non-academic, clinical position, probably focusing on pain mgmt. Any web sites, examples, or facts?

Thanks, Frank. :)

Hi:

Sorry to sound like a broken record but once again do a search - there was a couple really long threads on these topics not long ago.

Bread and butter physiatry (running an inpt unit, hospital consults, etc) generally gets you about 150K per year with some geographic variations. Inpt PM&R subspecialists such as spinal cord injury, neurorehab, or traumatic brain injury may get more. In general, once you start adding more electrodiagnostics, occ med, and musculoskeletal medicine you can start approaching 200K. Add interventional spine pain procedures pain procedures and comprehensive pain management (modalities, psychosocial tx, and oral medications) in conjunction with medicolegal work (disability evaluations, personal injury work, etc) and you have potential for a VERY lucrative practice.
