How can you apply residency without GPA in pharmacy school?

Several USN graduates have applied for and been accepted to residency programs throughout the US. Only once has the GPA question even come up from a residency program trying to evaluate our grads' residency applications. The grading system is explained on the back of the transcript and was also explained verbally to that residency director to his/her satisfaction.
