I had a question. Some of the program websites say that for a complete application, they request 3 letters with one being a chairman's letter. Does this mean the maximum is 3 or can i send the eras max of 4.

I've been going over my ERAS stuff, and I think they only allow a max of 4 letters, which if I understand correctly includes a chair letter. So the max you can send out directly seems to be 4. Based on what you posted I would guess that you can send those programs either 3 or 4 letters, which includes the chair letter. Or am I missing something?

how do u get a chair letter if he or she doesnt know you....i dont understand why it is necessary to have one rather than getting it from someone who you have worked with on the rotations? I know it is required, just trying to understand the logic.

There is no logic. It's tradition. Just suck it up and move on. That's why you get 4 letters. 1 BS letter from the chair and 3 potentially meaningful letters.
