Congrats guys!!! It sure feels good to get the early acceptance doesn't it? I'm in @ COMP but I will be interviewing at a few other places before I make my decision. I'm @ AZCOM on 9/22, DMUCOM on 9/29, and I declined an interview at KCUMB. Not that I didn't want to be classmates with you guys. I am sure it would have been great, but It was a decision between California and Kansas City. To say the least CA won. But, I'm still interested in AZCOM, because my parentes live in Scottdale AZ, and I am intersted in DMUCOM, because they offer some scholarships to people with good stats. I also hope to interview and get accepted to KCOM, OSUCOM, PCOM and a variety of different MD schools. Then I will make a decision. DO - MD makes no difference to me. Its all about how hard you work! Congrats guys!!!!

Congrats guys!!!!!

Having an acceptance already is probably freakin awsome!!!!!

I'll be interviewing at KCUMB on 9/28, but I a little worried cause I didn't get a pre-secondary invite.

So since Im extremly neurotic at the moment and also nosey do ya'll mind posting your stats so lose of us less fortunate can see how we compare?

Thanks guys I really apperciate it.

PS 5 = ouch. Just explain it if they ask, if they don't ask, don't bring it up.

Other than that you are fine. To be honest, at KCUMB getting an interview is the harder part. If you have an interview you have a very decent chance of being accepted. KCUMB is one of those schools that doesn't interview too many more than they are planning on accepting, because they don't really do a waitlist.

If I were you, I'd work the rural medicine angle. Most DO schools love it.

FizbanZymogen
09-16-2006, 12:47 PM
At the KCUMB interview you actually get measured for your white coat (don't know if other schools do this but....). Don't worry to much about your stats. If you got the interview than they've already poured over them. Just go in and be genuine and pay attention. There are things they want to hear in the interview that they mention during the day. Make sure your priorities are clear (family first, medical school second, all else third). There are those who place med. school above all else and if asked they don't want to hear that. They will tell you all this throughout the interview day and then bring up some of these issues in your interview to see if you were paying attention. No biggie. Just relax, you're going to stroke this interview. peace

Oh, and in your quote, shouldn't it be Pleas"e"? Just being nitpicky :p

Yeah my PS definately sux. I hope that if they bring it up they will take my answer of "Well to be honest with you I think I just had an off day because I was scoring 8-9 on my practice tests and I've won awards for excellence in physical science."

Oh and thanks for the heads of on the "e" I just fixed it.:D

Congrats on your interview and good luck! Screw physical sciences, btw. They're the reason I'm not retaking the MCAT for a higher BS bc I know my PS would drop at least a point or two... oh well.

Whats so great about KCUMB? its a sincere question

Well I thought that the facilities were amazing, there was a really cool "vibe" around the campus, everything was very high tech (except for the lack of Wi-Fi), and honstly I've dreamed of getting into medical school since I was a little kid and they let me in so that really helps out their "awsomeness" factor.

med-i-cal
10-19-2006, 09:28 PM
They are in the process of testing Wi-Fi as well. It's sort of in closed beta right now, as some of us students are helping them test it. I wouldn't be suprised if it was open access by the time your class starts...

Hey guys. My name is Will and I actually deferred my admission to KCUMB to the class of 2011. I'm sure that everyone who visited the school will agree that KCUMB is amazing!

On a side note, I'm planning on living at Century Towers for the convenience. As of now I'm just planning on living in a 1 BR, but that's boring and can get pricey! If anyone's interested in getting a 2 BR with me to save some money, just send me a PM here or e-mail me at p314boy@aol.com.

Congratulations to those who are chosing KCUMB and good luck to those who are still waiting for acceptance letters! I hope to get to know everyone and see you guys in August!

docmd2010, do you have your hands on a recent KCUMB matchlist? Thanks.
The only match list we have open access to lists cities people are going to, not hospitals or speciality. I think we can look at it, but we have to request it and even then it's just to look at, not make copies of.

I can say that according to the cities list, people are going all over the nation. I'm not sure if that helps, but maybe another student has better information.

med-i-cal, how do you like the rotations that are set up? I see that they offer rotations in lots of great hospitals. Would you consider the rotation set-up organized? fair? a good education?

Thanks.

Well, I am only a first year, but I'll tell you what I know about it.

During your second year you sign up for the city where you want to do your rotations. The majority stay in KC, but there are many other cities as well (Florida, Philly, NYC and others). I think that within the city you choose you can pick certain rotations at certain hospitals (don't quote me on that). The passed down advice I've heard is to talk to your upper classmen to get a better inside scoop of which rotations are great, and not so great.

Maybe you'll get lucky and a 3rd/4th year will jump on here with more details.

Congratulations to those who have been accepted. Like p314boy I was to be a first year currently but decided to apply for a one year reprieve from homework and hair pulling (there were a few other more significant reasons, but that’s not important for this note). I am also a first year, but from what I understand during your third year, the hospital you choose and are assigned to will tell you if you have to go to another hospital for certain rotations (they will do this if their own hospital does not have that ward, for example, OB-GYN). For your fourth year, you can arrange rotations with different hospitals on your own.

As for the big city / little town dilemma, each way you have pros and cons. For example, in the bigger cities you will probably see more trauma and maybe a wider variety of illnesses, but will most likely not be working with a dr 1 on 1 (will probably be a group). Smaller towns will allow 1 on 1 with drs, and because of the lower number of students, you will get to do more procedures. They also seem to be more flexible (if you are in one rotation and aren't extra busy, they may let you slip into another ward to see a patient's case you are interested in). However, the wider variety factor may be missing, along with the large amount of trauma (but will see different types of trauma). My suggestion is do what feels right to you. You still have a few years to decide. By that time, you may decide you want to work rural or urban, which will likely sway your decision.

Sorry this was so long!

Congratulations to all of you, I'm sure you will enjoy it here!

I don't know if that number is accurate, but I do know that this year, there were over 10 spots left, so chances are that if you want to stay, you probably will be able to.

Anyways, Im kinda into the indoor rockclimbing thing(I suck but its fun). So I guess what Im wondering is if there is anybody else out there who likes to climb? I hear there is a really good climbing gym in the blue river area, and Im lookin for somebody who would like to go climb two to three times a week during school as a way of stress relief and staying in shape?

I did my third year rotations in Wichita, KS. My fourth year I have been all over, primarily in Michigan. I am probably going to match at Genesys in Grand Blanc, Michigan for General Surgery.

The OPP fellowship is not very competitive. You will not find many people wanting to spend an extra year, delaying graduation. But it was a great experience and I would do it again in a heart beat!

Again, anyone let me know if you need help! Good luck!

Yip, except you turn right past the great meadow instead of left (if you're coming from Medford). As for the CT thing, it doesn't look too bad. I like the fact I won't have to be driving too much, although gas is about 80 cents cheaper...

This is stupid. I don't care what they call me as long as its doctor. I only applied D.O. because thats what i want to be, and I wouldn't want anything else behind my name. If you don't like it go something else and quit trying to ruin it for those of us who are DAMN PROUD to have the opportunity to have D.O. after our names.

Besides, a name change at this point would just cause more confusion for the general public.

It all matters on what size you choose. I have the smallest 2-bed, and it is 720 a month. They do give you a discount on your second year in the apts. That 720 figure is with the 2nd year discount, so it is a little more than that. Hope this helps a little. Also, it is really nice to have them work with you if you are waiting for your next living expenses check. (For instance, if you don't have the rent for the first of January and you get your check in January, you can wait to pay until you get your check.)

Need a little help. I have an interview at KCUMB coming up and I was curious how long after you had your interview did you hear back from the school? I am expecting to hear back from another school around the time I have my interview, so it would be nice to have 2 schools to pick from. I interviewed on a Thursday, and had my acceptance in my mailbox the following Tuesday. They don't seem to waste time. When you are there, they will tell you when the committee meets. Also, take into account where you live, and the time mail takes to arrive from KC. I live about 150 miles away from KC, so mail travels fast.

I think I've spent more time researching this option than any sane person should. I'm applying for the army HPSP since it appears that they have the greatest opportunity for training in surgery, I don't have to live on a ship for a couple years doing a GMO tour, and won't have to compete with the flyboys for preferential treatment (although I expect none keeping my feet on the ground either). Of course, I know I will be financially behind at the end with my chosen profession, but I want the military experience, and the give something back to the men and women who risk so much more. If anyone is interested in the HPSP or FAP, definitely check out the military medicine threads. There's lots of opinions going either way! If anyone wants to see a contract, an AMEDD recruiter sent me one to preview, I'd be happy to pass it along.

hi everyone-

first of all congrats!!! i have loved my time here (i'm a 2nd year) and i'm sure you will too!!

just wanted to let you know if you are looking into buying a house/ needing a home loan in the KC area...i have a great referral that I used to buy both of my houses here in KC (one where i live, and the other i rent to med students)...he is an awesome realtor plus he does home loans too!! (and can get you 100% financing), so it's like one stop shopping :-).

if your interested please e-mail me at tlewis@kcumb.edu and i can give his info to you...i don't get any kickbacks from this..i just had such a great expierence with him, i can't help but put in a plug...plus why throw your money away renting when you can get a mortgage for as cheap as renting.

if you have any questions about kc or kcumb, i would be glad to help...i'm pretty involved at school so i should be able to answer most of your questions.

I was definitely thinking about it. I haven't much money at the moment, but if I get this HPSP Scholarship I imagine I could afford a 800/month mortgage. If anything it'd be more of an investment than anything. Where are the good, safe, cheap neighborhoods around there???

I dont know any specifics but I was told by CT that the school does some sort of rommate matching prog. I am living in CT and will need a roommate. However, I dont want to jump at the 1st available person. Im sure med school will be stressful enough-I dont want to deal with stess in my own home too. simo, I never took anatomy (but I did take physio) nor immunology. However, I would suggest you take micro if you could. That would be a helpful class.

Having said that, none of those classes are required, so the curriculum will be set up to teach you those things that you'll need to know. The Foundations of Medicine class will prepare us well for all of that "basic" science knowledge. I wouldn't stress too much. Stress a little, but not too much.

I know exactly what you're going through. I felt the force of the "machine" too in my junior year when I was "suppose" to be readying myself for the app process but I just didnt feel ready, life ready. So, I waited. It actually caused me less anxiety to wait (which before that time, I thought waiting to enter med school would surely mean death!) than to proceed with the app process. Im so glad I listened to that little voice that said "not yet."

I know its hard to fight the force that propels pre-meds forward-we all have it by virtue of being a pre-med-but you dont have to follow it mindlessly. If you dont feel ready or just feel like you'd enjoy another year of life DONT MATRICULATE! A year sounds like a long time to wait when you've been planning for this moment you're entire life (supposedly), but just ask the second career folks and the non-trads- a year is NOTHING.

Im not really advocating either way for you. I would just say listen closely to how you feel and go with it. Dont do what you think you're "suppose" to be doing. If you decide to wait and KCUMB doesnt let you defer a year, then you just apply again. Obviously you're a stellar applicant to finish UG in 3 yrs and get accepted. With another year of experience (in whatever it is!) you'll be an even more desirable applicant. Good luck. If you do come to KC, I'll see you in Aug. If not, LIVE IT UP!!

I know what you mean. ppl keep talking about how CT isnt that great for what you pay. I personally disagree (ive lived in some really ****ty apts for not much less than CT) except on one point: they are kinda small unless you get the supersized ones which they only have a few of. But Im always a sucker for convenience over luxury. The fact that I can roll out of bed 15 mins before class and not have to fight the snow on bad days is enough for me! :D

1300 square feet for $650?! In San Diego I pay $1700 for something substantially smaller. But it would be nice to be closer to campus

I live in CT right now, and I agree that you can't beat the conveneince. I live in a single and it serves my purposes just fine. However, if you have more than one person living in a single it would get really cramped. I also like that I don't have as much "house" to clean (when I get a chance to do so).

The rooms at CT are pretty sound proof, and the toilets have the best flushing power I have ever seen in any house or apartment.

Is there anything negative about CT that you guys wish you had known before living there? Anything to be concerned about?

I think I'm living in a CT single for my first year just to get settled in. I'll probably look for a roommate after our first year to save some money if I can find anyone interested.

Looks like it'll be KCUMB for me in the fall. Still waiting to hear from a few lingering schools. But, (believe it or not, KCUMB is the cheapest of my remaining few choices- yikes!)

I, like many of you, am awaiting an opportunity to find roomate(s).

I am coming from Seattle, WA. Have a dog (hence my screen name).

I require a back-yarded house, perfect for studying, relaxing, and having friends over (friend for my dog, even better).

Roomates interested in off-time ski trips to CO or NM is also a plus.

Keep it in mind as some type of system to hook up draws near!

excited to meet many of you (there will only be ~280 of us, so we should all be able to meet each other by end of 3rd year).

Congrats on everyone who has been accepted into KCUMB for 2007. I know you will be happy with your decision; I know I still am. My name is Lauren Kent, I am currently a first year at KCUMB, and I live in Century Towers (the apartment building they showed you on your interview day).

I am writing because I am not going to be in KC this summer and am looking to rent out my furnished apartment for summer. This is a perfect short-term deal for anyone doing that summer review course offered by KCUMB (the review I regret not doing) or anyone who wants to test out the waters of living across the street from school. If this is you, I am your new best friend.

My apartment is completely furnished and would love for you to live in it. At CT, all utilities are paid except AC/heat and my rent is $580. If you are at all interested, feel free to email me at lkent@kcumb.edu. Also, I have one or two friends who want you to live in their furnished apartment this summer too. I would appreciate it if you only emailed me with an interest in my apartment because, after all, medical school is as tough as they tell you and I study a lot.

Take care and hope to hear from you soon. Congrats again.

I'm from Overland Park (about 15-20 min from the school) and my wife and I are actually planning on living over there. So I am out of the roommate hunt. We'll come down in late July.

I am in. It's about 10-12 hr drive to beginning of the skiable Rockies.

1 hr flight to Denver from MCI (KC's airport) and another couple hours drive depending on where you want to go. Winter Park and Summit County (Keystone, Copper Mountain, and A-Basin) are good place to start and are relatively close.

Not sure how pricing would work out, but I know you can get $50-60 one way tickets from KC to Denver on Southwest. Sometimes Southwest even has special deals. But I am probably sure it would just be cheaper to rent a van and have everyone pitch in for the rental and gas. When I was at DMU for my interview, a group of students had just gotten back from Breckenridge. A group of them decided they wanted to go on a ski trip and within a couple of days they had a group of 15 or so that went.

Has any one else bought the book that they would like us to purchase and review before classes start? I might get the newer edition, but doubt there is much else added besides the cd.

Thanks for the heads up. Is there a KCUMB link to the recommendation of this book?

My memory of this recommendation is vague.

It came with my acceptance letter. I forgot exactly what the sheet said, but it was full of all kinds of info and I think it mentioned that if I wanted to I could talk to a current student if I still was wondering if KCUMB was the school for me. I will check the sheet when I get home today.

On a side note, with this Genesis curriculum how do they make sure that we remember past material? After we go over renal or respirtory, are they done forever? It seems like each core is 6-8 weeks (some being 10), but after that how will you be able to stay on top of the things you learned previously and the stuff you are expected to learn now? I am guessing this responsibility falls back on us?

Hey Pack,
In my acceptance packet which came a week after my acceptance letter, I had a sheet that I had to sign allowing KCUMB to do a credit check. Another sheet was a letter written by Teresa Harter and mentioned Hep-B shots, accomodations for physical disabilities, and computer requirements. At the end they recommended that we purchase the book and study over the summer.

I am sure you will find some runners in your class. As a 4th year I thought I would chime in about the local races. Not sure how far you are going but the KC marathon in the fall has a good half and then there is another good half in Columbia Missouri along with the Rock Bridge Revenge Trail run.

If you are not heading home for break you can always run the Gobbler Grind 1/2 marathon/marathon in Olathe.

In the spring - KC is famous for the trolley run, Lawrence has a 1/2 marathon and the St. Pat's race in Westport is pretty good.

As far as the medical term. book - don't worry about this. ERF (path teacher) will quiz you in path and go over terms with you.

I also wanted to mention that there are great trails in the area.
Little Blue in Blue Springs - great chat trail about 14 miles long
Indian Creek - atleast 26 miles long with branches, easy access south in overland park goes all the way through Olathe

Smithville lake up north (about 15 minutes north of northern kc) - has a great asphalt trail system too. This trail runs around to and around the lake. they are adding more on every year right now I think the trail is about 12 miles long. They also have single track dirt trails which are very easy to run and good for a novice mountain biker.

There are other trails and parks but they are much shorter or farther away.

(Whut next! Yeak whut!)
Whut next?
Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go!
They went and built a skyscraper seven stories high,
About as high as a buildin' orta grow.
Ev'rythin's like a dream in Kansas City,
It's better than a magic lantern show!
Y' c'n turn the radiator on whenever you want some heat.
With ev'ry kind o' comfort ev'ry house is all complete.
You c'n walk to privies in the rain and never wet your feet!
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go,

Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go!
They got a big theayter they call a burlesque.
Fer fifty cents you c'n see a dandy show.
One of the gals was fat and pink and pretty,
As round above as she was round below.
I could swear that she was padded from her shoulder to her heel,
But latter in the second act when she began to peel
She proved that ev'rythin' she had was absolutely real!
She went about as fur as she could go,

I have to say that that run is horrible - not sure why so many people line up for it. I ran the 10k one year and I swore that I would never step in there again. I had the worst migrane along with a few of my other friends due to the lack of ventilation with the horrible paint smell. There just isn't much fresh air entering the running area and you rerun the same scenery over and over again.

I am sure that many people enjoy it but not one I would recommend! Hopefully you may have had a better experience:)

Hello KCUMB class of '11 :) I hope you are all as excited as me :D I'm not sure what the roomate match list is about, but I would like to start the process of finding some housemates. I decided against CT mainly because of my dog. I would really like a yard for the ol' girl to run around in, and if she could have a friend that'd be even better. I do, however, also have a cat. I enjoy the outdoors and am all about the occasional snowboard/rock climbing/camping road trips. I'd love to find a bigger place than CT for the price, but I'm thinking the convenience for the first year will be great. I'd be willing to move out of the area after the first year though!

I'm with you on that. I don't really have the time right now to head over to KC and find a place I like, so CT is the easiest option. Good enough for the first year or so I think, until I get to know the area better.

Maybe you should check out Bennington Ridge. This is where I lived. It is about 10 minutes away...most days...bigger than CT, and a pretty good place to live overall. There are a few other places within a few minutes of Bennington Ridge. You should also check out some of the lofts downtown. Good luck with your home search!!

Actually, most, if not all, of the scholarhips (re: LOANS) that were part of the packet were neither need-based or merit-based. They were dependent on your state of residence, minority status, etc.

The HCA system is a pretty big system, and if we choose to stay in KC, which I understand is not too hard to do, then it's preceptor-based and we will be asked to drive A LOT from one medical center in the region to another following a doctor or two during the length of that rotation. I also understand that some of the preceptors can be hit-and-miss. ~45% of the class decides to stay in Kansas City.

P.S. I don't really like the HCA Midwest website. Not easy to navigate, IMO.

Yeah I will have to agree with you about the HCA website. Not the most user-friendly design.

If there are any 3rd/4th years or recent graduates that would like to chip in about their clinical experience that would be great. I guess that is one of the few things that I am concerned about at KCUMB.

It looks like it's $54,800 for first year if you take out the maximum allowed for living expenses ($15,705). This does not include the $1500 - $2500 allowed for a new computer.
That's just the number that I came up with adding everything together, so I could be missing something.

Hey All,

Congrats on getting accepted to KCUMB....its a great place. I'm a third year here, but my family and I will be moving at the end of this year to be closer to family as my wife has our 3rd child during the craziness of my 4th year.

Anyways, we are in an awesome community about a 10 minute drive away from KCUMB campus. It is north of the river, in an excellent school district (if you have kids) and in a very family friendly community.

Rent is income based, starting at $417 w/the max being around $500 (I'm not sure the exact amount as we "make enough" to qualify for the reduced rent). Place is awesome....2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 bath, and a partially finished basement, roughly totalling 1200 sq ft. It is a great place if you have a family as there are a lot of kids in the area. Another perk is there are A LOT of KCUMB students here from which to learn and pick their brains about anything and everything.

Place is available May 1. I know that is early for school, but a lot of students try to live here and very few are moving out this year....only about 6 or 7 and places and they will fill up fast, I started renting the June before my 1st year so its pretty typical.

Call my wife, Lynnsey @ 816-584-2983 if you are interested or would like further information or contact her by email at lynnseykimball@gmail.com
I will check back on the boards, but do get on often so calling my wife or emailing her would be your best option.

Good luck, whatever you decide

Stan

Hi, fellow members of the class of 2011:

I placed my $2K deposit down last week and unless I become completely blown away by COMP (unlikely), I'm in, and I can't think of a better school to spend the next 4-yrs of my life. I feel very fortunate. :D

On that note, I'm preparing my online FAFSA, having just received my pin number. The application seems fairly easy, given that I haven't actually had any income for the better part of 2 years. However, I've read several threads suggesting that entering parent information is advised, since many schools want the information for need-based scholarships and grants. I also read in the KCUMB class of 2010 thread that KCUMB doesn't seem to require parent information and that the scholarships aren't particularly need-based. What do you guys think? Did you fill out the parent information section?

Thanks for your advice.

Unfortunately, KC is a pro sports town, but Lawrence is close and I'm looking forward to some KU basketball and football games.

Good luck with KU basketball tickets...students wait for like 60 hours (no exaggeration, they camp out) for tix to each game.

Football shouldn't be hard to get good tix. But I highly recommend Chiefs' games. Expensive, but as Larry Johnson (and members of the media) say Arrowhead Stadium is a "college like" atmosphere.

Thanks for sharing your assessment and wishing me good luck. I know a little about Pomona; I've been around the area before. I used to live in SoCal, but a little further north relative to the Pomona area. And you are correct...a lot of places around that area seem to smell like manure. I always wondered why that was.

Oh well, truthfully, I'm really wanting to attend KCUMB; they completely blew me away at the interview. I liked everything I saw on paper before the interview, but never expected to love it as much as I did when I was actually there. I just filed my FAFSA and listed only KCUMB.

However, since everything is already set up for me to goto my interview at COMP, I thought I might as well go and check it out, to ameliorate any remaining doubts and to reaffirm my choice. It's hard to compare without actually checking out the school. :)

I agree Harvey! I first visited KCUMB a couple of years ago for an open house. I have been hooked ever since!

Sounds like we're going to have a great class! I was reading back through the previous posts - I love to ski (on water and snow), run, bike - pretty much anything outdoors - too! In case anyone is going to be in the KC area this summer....Table Rock Lake is about 3-4 hours away, and is the best in the area for water skiing/camping in my opinion! Most people around here (KC that is) prefer Lake of the Ozarks. Its a great party lake but Table Rock is better for skiing since its not as crowded. If you have any questions or need other suggestions, feel free to PM me!

Does anyone know about the flyfishing opportunities near KC or are the rivers just too flat? Maybe I should take up catfish fishing instead.

With each of the places I interviewed at, they just kept getting better than the previous. First was COMP, nice but too laid back for me. Next was DMU and Touro-NV. I could see myself at any of these schools; it's just the little things that make the difference.

I have to agree. I just got back from my CCOM interview today, and I feel that KCUMB is a stronger program. I really wasn't that impressed with CCOM. Maybe I am a little to confident, but I would put KCUMB's Genesis curriculum up with any program in the country, MD or DO. I think that KCUMB runs a great program. CCOM doesn't even record their lectures or give copies of the power point slides. I felt that was a little unusual. Anyway, here it is, in black, with two alternative shirt backs, as requested. I'm also attaching a white shirt version for contrast. Which one do you guys like the best, the black or white shirt? And which back design?

EDIT: I had to use a beige background for the front logo on the black shirt because the ghosting was too significant; it looks a little blocky, but it's the best that I can do given the graphics file that I had to work with. The white shirt with orange trim should look okay with the beige background removed from the graphic. I don't know; let me know what you think. ;)

EDIT2: I just discovered that we cannot use the school's logo without permission. If we have sufficient interest, we can contact the school to see if it will be okay to make the shirt and for the necessary procedures.

I prefer the back design 1. As to which color? I'm not sure. I'm partial to black tee shirts. I changed the design of the black tee shirt due to the complexity of the front logo, so it's somewhat less appealing than before, however. At the end of the day, I think the white tee shirt with orange trim looks cooler. Let's see what others think. Too bad we can't place a poll inside a thread.

don't want to bust your bubble...but you need to get the school's permission b/f you use their logo...you can get in some big trouble if you don't...i think the shirt is great, just don't want to get anyone started off at school on the wrong foot.

 I feel like I'm running a shirt design factory! It's fun, though. If nothing, it's really making feel like I'm really going to be part of this awesome class.

I don't know; let me know what you think. ;)

Absolutely; thank you. My colleagues and I don't want to get into any kind of legal trouble and would certainly want to go through the proper channels. It was not my intention (nor that of my colleagues) to violate any provisions set forth, nor did I have any knowledge that I would. Please accept my humble apology. If we do decide to actually produce the shirt, and it is okay to do so, we will make absolutely sure to contact LeeAnn Carlton to ensure that the proper steps are taken and that our steps are in complete alignment with that of the school. We will follow the recommendations of the school. Thank you, again, for your kind and good advice. :)

Thanks for the heads up and appreciation. :) Someone mentioned the theme, and I was just sort of messing around. :o Things spiraled from there. Anyway, I'm very glad you told us about the legal implications. We could have made a misstep without it!

Yeah, I was going to mention that, lol. And quite frankly I cant imagine them giving us permission to use their prestigious logo for such a scandalous endeavour, lol.

HOWEVER, if they are in an especially good mood that day and grant us permission, I really like the white with orange trim and Back #2. But if we do go with Back #1, can we at least change the word line up to

KC
Here we
KCUMB

Picky, I know, but I figured it was worth a shot.

 Yeah, I'm essentially on the same wavelength. Right now, it's just fun to stay with messing around. I don't think we should pursue it unless we can get around 25 orders minimum. Then there's the problem of how we are going to collect the money...

FWIW, if this turns out to be more than just an imaginary endeavor; here's how I figure it:

Black shirt
15 pieces @ $27.23 each
20 pieces @ $22.90 each
25 pieces @ $16.62 each

White shirt with orange trim
15 pieces @ $33.35 each
20 pieces @ $29.85 each
25 pieces @ $22.58 each

The black shirt costs less to produce.

If we do decide on back 1, I think your request can be arranged, if everyone else agrees, too.

I'm willing to pursue it if we can get a good amount of interest (in addition to production cost, significant interest could impact outcome of permission). Wouldn't hurt, to ask, I wouldn't think.

Personally I don't see a problem. We aren't selling the shirts to make a profit. If we were doing that I would see an issue. I remember in undergrad for our pre-med club we used our university's logo without anyone ever brining up an issue. I don't see a huge issue with this since we have matriculated (will be students) at KCUMB.

Hmm... You are right, this a strictly not-for-profit venture, but one of class spirit (we are going to have an awesome class). Good to know that you've witnessed a successful venture previously. That does inspire confidence in me. I propose that we try to get a minimum of 25 orders (20 for the black shirt, because it's cheaper), to make sure the cost is reasonable per person, and then proceed to LeeAnn Carlton with our plan. It's not that much money, though, so I'm willing to pay a little more for this shirt. I thought about it and would be willing, if everyone who wants a shirt is, too, to go forward at whatever number of orders we end up having, if we fall a little short.

spice, do you have a paypal account? If we get approval and reach the minimum number, we could just paypal you the amount for our shirts.

Here is a proposal of a letter requesting permission to use the school's logo for our t-shirt. PM your real name if you want to co-sign it with me. Suggestions, comments, and corrections welcome.

Dear Ms. Carlton,

A few incoming students of the class of 2011 have been tossing around the idea around of making a t-shirt commemorating and celebrating our matriculation to KCUMB prior to the start of classes. We are very excited to attend KCUMB and feel very fortunate to be part of this great tradition.

We are writing to seek your approval to use the school's logo on our t-shirt and to seek your recommendations, if any, on how to proceed. You have our assurance that the shirts will be for our own use and not sold for any profit. Please find attached pictures of the proposed t-shirts.

Thank you for your consideration of our creative endeavor.

Sincerely,

<me and whomever wants to co-sign with me>

Does anyone know about the flyfishing opportunities near KC or are the rivers just too flat? Maybe I should take up catfish fishing instead.

I LOVE FISHING. I'm new to the site, but I plan on attending KCUMB this fall, for the class of 2011. I'll be moving to Kansas City from Michigan, and look forward to fishing for some of the local favorites.

I would imagine there would be flyfishing opportunities in the area for bluegill (bream), largemouth and smallmouth bass, and possibly carp all within a short drive of Kansas City. These opportunities would present themselves on the Missouri River, and also on the lakes/reservoirs in the region. Bluesprings Lake, Lake Jacomo, and Longview Lake are all within 20 miles of KCUMB. I'm sure that an afternoon of scouting would provide you with more than a few areas to wet a fly.

If you are interested in flyfishing for trout, check out this link:

Hello Everyone!
I will also be attending KCUMB in the Fall! I am very much looking forward to it! I was wondering where everyone was planning on living....I will be living in the River Market area, and will be moving at the end of June beginning of July. I look forward to meeting all of you! And I think the shirt idea is great! I personally like the black shirt the best....See you all soon.....

It's awesome that you guys are so excited. I definitely think you should be. I love it here, and if you have any questions, please let me know.

As far as choosing a school, the campus visit solidified my decision. The faculty and staff were super nice (and they are awesome when you're a student--it's not a show), and the students had nothing but good things to say about it when we were there.

As I'm halfway through my first year, I will tell you that they take care of you at KCUMB and make sure you have every resource you need to succeed. Make no mistake, you have to work for everything you get, but even with the long nights and the exhausting exam weeks, there's nowhere else I'd rather be trained as a doc.

As far as rotations and all that go, it just depends on what you want to do. There's a lot of family practice and internal med around here, but from the 2nd and 3rd year students I've talked to, they are either here for their families or sig. others or in the MA program here. I don't know if that helps or not.
