View Full Version : NSU acceptance class of 2011!! toothless rufus 01-31-2007, 07:57 AM So, did everybody finally get their NSU holiday card? bravotwozero 01-31-2007, 09:50 AM Try using your NSU ID. It should start with an N followed by 000 and additional numbers. When you submitted your secondary application, you should have gotten an email back as confirmation. One of those emails, it lists your NSU ID number. Use that instead of your SS# and let me know how that turns out. If you tried the NSU ID number, try the SS#. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll get to the bottom of this. I dug up my NSU ID#, and it worked finally. Thanks dude, you da man! sunnyjohn 01-31-2007, 10:54 AM I've been reading through the NSUCOM student handbook and I have a few more questions. 1. What exactly is the attendance policy? 2. Students are assigned seats in lecture? (or did I read incorrectly)? 3. They made mention of students who are licensed in health professional fields not being allowed to work in those fields while in school without permission. So if I had an RN or CST license I could not take a shift a month without permission? (Not that I plan on working, but I would like the option to take a shift to stay loose). Thanks HemaOncoDoc 01-31-2007, 11:54 AM 1. http://www.nova.edu/cwis/pubaffairs/news/oct-dec2004/nbhd.html Fine and dandy, but it's going to be finished after we graduate. Hmm? HemaOncoDoc 01-31-2007, 12:03 PM So, did everybody finally get their NSU holiday card? I got two finally! Yes! That won me over. I dug up my NSU ID#, and it worked finally. Thanks dude, you da man! Word! No problem at all. I used my NSU ID too. I've been reading through the NSUCOM student handbook and I have a few more questions. 1. What exactly is the attendance policy? 2. So if I had an RN or CST license I could not take a shift a month without permission? (Not that I plan on working, but I would like the option to take a shift to stay loose). Thanks 1. It varies from year to year, but for certain courses, there is a mandatory attendance policy of 70%. Anything lower than that and points will be taken from your final grade. In some courses, 100% attendance is mandatory less exceptions. 2. There is no assigned seating. Many students "have" a seat, but there is no assigned seating. 3. I don't know about that. You would have to be licensed in FL first and I'm not sure you'll have that much time to do so. I would expect that you need to receive permission first. Kuba 01-31-2007, 12:07 PM Fine and dandy, but it's going to be finished after we graduate. Hmm? yep, but that wasn't sunnyjohns question:D HemaOncoDoc 01-31-2007, 12:16 PM yep, but that wasn't sunnyjohns question:D Yeah. :) but it holds much more relevance...oh well. I don't know for sure if you are supposed to ask permission or anything, but there are a few people in my class who work on occassion (Nursing I know for sure). I've not heard of anyone being told that they couldn't work. Kuba 01-31-2007, 12:28 PM Yeah. :) but it holds much more relevance...oh well. (besides what it says on the housing website....) I don't know what it says on the site. What else is there to know? The pricing? Where it is? I put pictures of it on Facebook, it's going to be 700 rooms, with a common kitchen area. It will cost about $4k or $7k, I don't remember the figures, but I'm sure it's on the website. They're still building it, so things are not finalized. Also, it's all based on the lottery. It may have changed since last week, but they don't know who the manufacturer of the the lab coats are going to be this year, so there were no samples for you to try on at the bookstore. the scrubs as you can see from the picture run large. I thought they run big also? I have a lab coat from school and a medium is huge on me. The one I used at Mass General Hospital was a small and was adequate. I wish they had samples already at the bookstore. Also, they said that there will have coats for us to try during orientation. So, you don't have to submit the form now. Orthodoc40 03-05-2007, 04:58 PM If you're already making payments, that's one thing, but if you're thinking about getting a car now, and getting into a long term payment situation, avoid it. Instead, find something that you can just pay a couple of thousand for and be done with, and not have that monthly additional expense hanging over your head. It's just one less thing to worry about. Also, the more consumer debt you're carrying, the tougher it will be to get student loans you need. Kuba 03-05-2007, 06:08 PM ...lol...just not @ the top of my list for great food. I was hoping to find something to fit everyones personality. My roommate went apartment hunting down in florida, and told me that sundance was nearby. I look up sundance on this here map (http://www.nova.edu/reslife/offcampus/forms/apartment_map.pdf) on the NSU site, which shows a location of apartments close to campus. Lo and behold, sundance (#33) on the map is at least 10 miles away from the NSU main capus, waay out in Dania beach. When double checking with the roommate, he gave me the address of the apartment, which is infact just down the street from the NSU main campus, and nowhere near the location that's shown on the map. NOBODY...regardless of what rotation you are selected into will be spending their entire 3rd/4th year at the hospital. The months that are usually in the hospital are: OBGYN (1), IM (3), Surgery (2), Peds Inpatient (1), Psych (1), Emergency (1). For Mt Sinai, usually you will do your surgery, IM, and ER at Sinai. Psych, OB and Peds are sometimes done at other hospitals. The amount of time you spend at your base hospital changes from rotation to rotation. Everyone will be doing 2 months of Family med OUT of the hospital, Geriatrics (often at nursing home types of places), 1 month of outpatient peds, and 3 months of rural rotations (two in FL, one wherever you choose). The rest of your 4th year is made up of elective/away rotations. That is what they are like this year at least...things change a little bit from time to time. Don't worry--there is a TON of time to figure out the rotation thing during your 2nd year of medical school. It is absolutly nothing to think about now. Worry about passing Physiology and Microbiology first. ;) ...I have no new news on the medical villiage, I think it's all up in the air. kaikai128 03-17-2007, 09:00 PM Does graduation from NSU give you a leg up on residencies at Mount Sinai? Medicine is all about who knows you, and impressing the right people. MikeyLu, yes, the commute from miami to ft. lauderdale is not ideal. But the reason why I will most likely end up at NSU over other schools (and likely an MD school) in Florida is its location and/or commuting distance to South Florida (Miami). I love sleep as much as (if not more than) the next person, but my spouse has a really time intensive job in Miami who couldn't move to Ft. lauderdale and make the commute in the direction of rush hour for two years so that I can sleep an extra hour. Lol i was thinking 2 - 3 months was the norm, this sucks :thumbdown ohhhh well The advantage of getting only one month off the first year (and starting second year earlier), is that we get more time off to study for boards than many schools. Our systems courses (we have other random things to do for a week or two) are over the second week of April this year, and we start rotations the first Monday in July. It is a tradeoff, but one that I would definately prefer. :) bravotwozero 03-20-2007, 09:32 PM So, how many of you guys have filed your fafsa application already? This resolution essentially is eliminating the transitional year and it will be going into effect as early as 2008. This is from an email I received from administration. " The changes do remove the requirement of a FREE STANDING/Unattached traditional rotating internship year. However, in practice since 1989 reforms, more internships have been linked to a residency, and counted towards residency training. Because of this, Osteopathic training time for the vast majority of residencies has been identical to Allopathic for years. " A lot of it is a change in the wording, but essentially what this is going to do is to eliminated the need to do that Traditional Rotating Internship year. The first year of residency will automatically count (and there are requirements of the breakdown of that year) and therefore in those magic 5 states you don't have to do the rotating internship year anymore. Much love from the class of 2009. do you know when i going to go into effect? Join and peruse through information on financial aid, housing, orientation, etc. kaikai128 03-22-2007, 02:50 PM i was accepted to NSU, how have your experiences there been so far? Feel free to search my name to look for my experiences @ NSU. I have had a great experience, but with all things in life--they are what you make them. I choose to look at everything as half full. I came to medical school to learn about medicine, to learn to become a great clinician, and to maybe have some time to enjoy the weather--NSU has completely met ALL of my expectations in these categories. I have a great class, all of which work very hard together to be cohesive and to keep the people upstairs happy (administration). Note to incoming first years: get to know your classmates well, and choose your class officers carefully. Having good leadership and being cohesive is VERY important...this was one of the best pieces of advice I received before starting medical school. All in all, I think that NSU is an amazing school, and I am getting an amazing education. This specifically became apparent to me when I was at some training last summer with 60 med students from all over the nation (MD and DO), and the 3 NSU students there kicked ass. We know as much as everyone else, and in MANY many situations--we knew more. At many moments in the week, I was asked--WOW where do you go to school? Some poeple are petty--and complain about the little things, and you are always going to get this (I simply don't spend a lot of time with these ppl). Although everyone in medical school is legally an adult, there are some who don't always act that way. There are some people who always choose to find things to complain about in life, medical school will be no exception. Anyhow, if anyone has specific questions--feel free to PM me and I am more than happy to answer (as always). ...and to any first years reading this in the middle of their hell months: please remember to just take a deep breah, step back, keep your heads up, and look at the big picture. Life really is rough for you right now, but it gets better. Every semester is gets more enjoyable and easier. You are almost thru the worst of it, and in the end you are going to be a doctor!!! madscientist50 03-22-2007, 06:04 PM So, how many of you guys have filed your fafsa application already? During your fourth year, July through December are the "hot" months to do audition rotations at places you'd be interested in for residency. At NSU, we have 3 required rotations to do doing fourth year: 1 month of emergency medicine, and 2 months of rurals. Now most people take the month of July as a study month for Step 2 of your boards, so if you have all 3 of those required rotations during that time, you are left with only 2 months to do away rotations. For the majority of people (myself included), rurals are done later in the year...so I have 4 months in which to do electives. In his mind (and the minds of many others, including myself), audition rotations are a MAJOR factor in being selected for a residency program. If a program has seen you and know you work really well with them, they are MUCH more likely to take you on as a resident over someone they have not worked with, regardless of board scores, etc. Its unfortunate that some people get screwed with rotation assignments in that respect, but that's how the system works currently. Fortunately, he WILL have the ability to do an audition rotation during the month of July (which is an extremely competitive month) rather than boards study, and perhaps take his Step 2 later in the year. mcrib 03-29-2007, 11:28 AM Basically, his complaint was this... Would it just be one, or could more be fit in? When the lottery happened last year 90-95% of the students received their top five choices when everything was said and done. And according to the list there are more than five desirable rotating hospitals. So, I highly doubt you'd get your last choice. If many students are not achieving their desired residency spots due to the scheduling of the rural internships, then perhaps our class should rearrange the schedule. NSU doesn't hide the fact that rural care is a core component of their curriculum. 1_Accept_Away 03-29-2007, 02:00 PM If many students are not achieving their desired residency spots due to the scheduling of the rural internships, then perhaps our class should rearrange the schedule. NSU doesn't hide the fact that rural care is a core component of their curriculum. Absolutely, I think it would be great if our class or this year's class could rearrange the schedule so that the rural rotations could be done in the late Spring when it won't affect audition rotations/externships....but I get the distinct impression from current student posting on SDN (not only Doc2B but Pegasus), that we, as NSU students, don't get the luxury of deciding when to schedule our rural internship...the school/admin decides, hence Doc2B's complaint. Doc2B's elusive complaint was that for him/her and the majority of his/her classmates the rural internship was during PRIME audition rotation season...thereby, affecting his ability to match into a desired specialty. No one ever said the NSU tries to keep their mandatory rural care rotation a secret...it is just disturbing that it can be scheduled at a time when you and your future would be better served by doing an audition rotation. toothless rufus 03-29-2007, 04:58 PM I'd rather have somewhat of a life outside of studying and not try to undermine my classmates to get ahead during the first two years. I'm not! :( Yah - he's clearly planning on being up there at the top! You obviously have a gunner amongst you! ;) Shhh! You'll spoil my plans, lol! :p As I think more about going by class rank, I realize that it could be viewed as a competitive thing, I guess, although I don't view it that way. But I think its a lot more fair if it is based on something tangible that can be influenced by the student, versus just luck-of-the-draw! I don't see why we cannot be cooperative and try to do our best. And be rewarded for it. I only see the competition within the individual to do their best; there's no reason it needs to become cut throat at all. The only person I am ever in "competition" with is myself. I know that I can be a cooperative fellow student, and offer sincere congratulations to another. And if the other does not have an enlightened view of things, and chooses to torment themselves by getting all bent out of shape...oh, well! If there is no way on the face of the earth to design it so everyone gets what they want for their high tuition, and considering the importance of timing here, then why shoudn't effort be rewarded? You can decide to make this a focus or not. Would you be content if you happen to get screwed and had worked your arse off, while someone with a more "relaxed" style got the best case scenario? I admit, I would be irked. Orthodoc40 03-29-2007, 06:38 PM Shhh! You'll spoil my plans, lol! :p Right - sorry. Your 'secret' is safe with me! :D It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me, provided it doesn't breed a cutthroat environment. It just might be hard to get around that in people. Tough to know. Maybe you could do it like the NBA. The highest rank in the class gets the most lottery ping pong balls...and so on, down the line..... Except everyone gets to play. Never mind. I hate the NBA draft.... toothless rufus 03-29-2007, 07:05 PM :D Maybe you could do it like the NBA. The highest rank in the class gets the most lottery ping pong balls...and so on, down the line. This would also be better than a straight lottery. toothless rufus 03-29-2007, 07:40 PM Absolutely, I think it would be great if our class or this year's class could rearrange the schedule so that the rural rotations could be done in the late Spring when it won't affect audition rotations/externships....but I get the distinct impression from current student posting on SDN (not only Doc2B but Pegasus), that we, as NSU students, don't get the luxury of deciding when to schedule our rural internship...the school/admin decides, hence Doc2B's complaint. Count me in! If it is actually possible to mush them rurals into late Spring, well then that is what shall have to happen! I can see no reason for NSU admin to say nay to this if it is doable. Unless they're simply not cool like that. HemaOncoDoc 03-29-2007, 08:07 PM Count me in! If it is actually possible to mush them rurals into late Spring, well then that is what shall have to happen! I can see no reason for NSU admin to say nay to this if it is doable. Unless they're simply not cool like that. I think the question is, is it feasible? I believe the vast majority of students would prefer to be on the interview rotations rather than be in a rural rotations, but to fit so many students into rural rotations at the same time, may be pretty tough. kaikai128 03-30-2007, 07:12 AM Count me in! If it is actually possible to mush them rurals into late Spring, well then that is what shall have to happen! I can see no reason for NSU admin to say nay to this if it is doable. Unless they're simply not cool like that. There are reasons that all of the rurals are not in the spring...getting all rurals in the spring is NEVER going to happen. First: There are not enough rurual sites to put everyone in the spring. The school has a limited number of places that we do our rurals with. Second: These clinics are not just allowing us to work there, but actually COUNT on us being there to handle their pateint load. If all of the rurals were in the spring, then these clinics would be understaffed for six months of the year--there therefore less able to serve their populations (and thus completely defeating the purpose of serving the community). Third: The school gets grants for having students help staff these clinics. If we aren't there, funding goes away...and tuition rises even more (BAD). All of that being said, I don't think it is fair for some students to have all of their rurals in the spring and other students having all of their rurals in the fall. Right now, rurals are scheduled in blocks of two months (except June and August are blocked together because we get July off). I think that the best solution would be to split the rurals up. Instead of 1/2 of the class having all of theirs in the spring and 1/2 of them all in the fall, give every student one rotation in the fall and one in the spring. mcrib 03-30-2007, 07:19 AM There are reasons that all of the rurals are not in the spring...getting all rurals in the spring is NEVER going to happen. Have you brought that suggestion up to admin? kaikai128 03-30-2007, 07:35 AM As I think more about going by class rank, I realize that it could be viewed as a competitive thing, I guess, although I don't view it that way. I whole heartedly disagree with the idea of making the rotation match based on GPA. There are several students in our class who were previously in PA school, Pharmacy school, have masters of physiology, have phd's or did the masters program at NSU before med school (and get to take classes twice and keep their SECOND grade), etc. There is NO WAY...no matter how hard I study that I can ever compete academically with some of these people. I am SOOO far behind where they were for first year, that even if I never slept--I probably wouldn't have done as well as these students. It is FULLY known that the most important thing to get a residency is to do well in your CLINICAL years and boards. Rather than focus on the sciences, I chose to take and early focus on the clinical side. I have 7 YEARS of patient experience before starting medical school, and worked full time during undergrad to just get in the minimum classes to go to medical school. My science background was minimal--thus I got my ass kicked first year, but I am kicking a lot of these ppl's butts this year--and have much more clinical knowledge than most of my counterparts. Is it fair for me to get a bad rotation site becuase I have a lot of patient experience and worked in undergrad and didn't do a masters degree before medical school? I don't think it is. MOST of the people at the top of the class, have little or no clinical experience, and are NOT the students are are going to shine on clinical rotations. Often times, it is the people in are somewhere in the middle of the class that get the best residencies...and you ask why? It is because of their clinical skills. This is what I am good at, and why I came to medical school. I believe that the match should be random so much, that if it wasn't--I would not have come to NSU. ...and to the person who elluded that the match wasn't random and that administration somehow influenced it...COMPLETELY wrong. Both the SGA president and our class president who are VERY well liked by administration had match numbers pretty low and the list--and I don't think either got their #1 choice. kaikai128 03-30-2007, 07:42 AM I have not, if this is a change that is going to be made...it is going to have to be something that incoming students argue from the beginning. They are not going to retroactively make the change for my class--if this is something your class feels passionately about, maybe your class administration can work on from the beginning. Kuba 03-30-2007, 09:20 AM I agree that rotation sites by class rank = :thumbdown . Sorry, TR, just doesn't make sense to me. MikeyLu2010 03-30-2007, 09:25 AM I agree with kai, Pretty much the highest ranked ppl in my class are the masters studets from last year...so i would make friends with them if you can find out who they are... Kuba 03-30-2007, 10:35 AM kai and mike, do you guys find that you have no free time on weekends due to the Monday exams? kaikai128 03-30-2007, 01:03 PM kai and mike, do you guys find that you have no free time on weekends due to the Monday exams? I spend MOST of the weekends before Monday tests studying...but that is because I don't study a lot during the week (I have found that medical school was NOT the end of my procrastination). If you were to keep up during the week, you would have some time on the weekends to study. My study partner goes out to dinner or does something every Sat night with his girlfriend...regardless of Monday tests. I generally enjoy my weeks...and then study on the weekends. toothless rufus 03-31-2007, 02:36 AM Well, other options for rotation site assignment could be: -arm wrestling -alligator wrestling -talent show -eating contest -dance off! -shoe cobbling -timed assembly/disassembly of assault rifles -your suggestions? Heck, I would probably be hurting myself if we went by class rank, but at least I would feel that I had some ability to determine this aspect of my medical education. If it is actually possible for us to have some say in how this is done, why don't we at least put it to our class for a vote? All of that being said, I don't think it is fair for some students to have all of their rurals in the spring and other students having all of their rurals in the fall. Right now, rurals are scheduled in blocks of two months (except June and August are blocked together because we get July off). I think that the best solution would be to split the rurals up. Instead of 1/2 of the class having all of theirs in the spring and 1/2 of them all in the fall, give every student one rotation in the fall and one in the spring. This would be an improvement. So, as it stands right now, half of the class get it good, and the other half get it not so good? I had thought there was more of a graduated high to low thing. I thought the Monday exam thing was changing? After the last class on Friday, I am not thinking about med school until Monday. Gotta have fun too! madscientist50 03-31-2007, 05:36 AM Fun? We're allowed to have during medical school? When did this happen? :D (I am only kidding around, I do expect to get go out with my wife at leat once a week or something like that, I was able to in grad school) Tests on Mondays is pretty rough, but at least its done with for the week then and you can spend the weeknights studing for the next weeks test, and if you do happen to "put-off" studying a little you have the weekend to save your butt. MikeyLu2010 03-31-2007, 11:08 AM I dont think the schedule is that bad ...its definately doable to relax once a week and in retrospect it should be a good idea to just take it easy at least once or twice a week so you can study efficiently and not get burnt out.. And partying is usually done either on Fri..or mondays.. Friday because ppl may not have igc..and study until night time..then party on friday night..and have all of saturday and sunday to study..dont worry about relaxing and having time to yourself...there will be time for that Kuba 03-31-2007, 01:38 PM it would suck if I couldnt go swim in the ocean once a week bravotwozero 03-31-2007, 03:46 PM I think anybody that wants to go swim in the ocean, which is full of saltwater, jellyfish, and in the case of south florida, sharks, has got to have a few screws loose in the head. hilseb 04-01-2007, 06:08 PM I have some catching up to do....17 pages on this thread already! I thought the Monday exam thing was changing? After the last class on Friday, I am not thinking about med school until Monday. Gotta have fun too! I believe that the school is pretty deeply rooted in the way that it assigns clinical rotations. This topic came up with our class as well, but after feeling out administration--we decided it was best to not pursue it. Seriously though, I would have been 100% OKAY with ANY of the rotation sites. Yes, there are some that appealed to me more than others...but I feel as if I would get a good education at ANY of them (and that is the only thing that matters in the end). Although I understand the desire to make things better, I think it would be smart to get here first...and get a feeling for how the school is run, why it is run this way, etc. Administration definately responds BEST to people who go thru the right channels (i.e. your class officers) to get things done, rather than individuals trying to make unilateral changes. Finally, there are some things that the school holds onto quite tightly...and no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to change it (think dress code, attendance policy, etc). The school is very deep rooted in professionalism; therefore, remember to always go about things in only the most professional manner possible. As with all things in life, CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES WISELY. toothless rufus 04-02-2007, 04:22 AM Happy Fun! For those who were accepted earlier, we had the chance to make two deposits, one being $750 in December and the other being $1250 in March. In that case, the financial burden came in spurts. The vast majority of us paid out of pocket for the $2K. You will be getting your financial aid information in the upcoming months. I would anticipate paying for rent and the cost of living in south florida for the time you're in Florida for half of July and August. That means to save money. If you have leftover money by the end of the year, you can always reject a certain portion of loans the following semester or year. Thanks, how much can we expect to pay in books? Is it really 12k>? For books and supplies, save your money on books for now. The second soon to be second years will be our guides during orientation and they know the scoop on which books are crucial, which are good reference guides, and which not to waste your money on. Supplies average around 2-3K depending on how flashy you want your supplies. Mind you, there are standards. The rest of the money is "hidden" money that NSU puts into its budget to offset the cost of living and for those with families. It's a buffer. So shhhh! I just talked to an MS4 on her way out to her residency in OK. She said don;t bother buying many of the books, and instead use your money on monographs. DON'T buy books before school starts. In fact, if you study at HPD library--there is no need to EVER buy any books. I can honestly think of a total of about 5 that I used over TWO years. You can get good grades on every test with the notes you are given. Books are simply secondary resources used to reinforce what you already have in your lecture handouts. bravotwozero 04-04-2007, 01:37 PM So I was checking my NSU e-mail, and I got this message from the administrator: NSU policy (see NSU Computer Removal Policy) requires that inactive computer accounts be removed from service. I didn't receive that email today. kiddingme 04-04-2007, 02:18 PM So I was checking my NSU e-mail, and I got this message from the administrator: What the freak is going on? Make sure your secondary deposit is recorded. Administration may be dropping people who didn't pay their secondary deposit in anticipation that they intend on attending NSUCOM. Couldn't hurt to make sure. Check webstar. bravotwozero 04-04-2007, 07:57 PM Well, webstar shows I paid the deposit. Anyhoo, I'm gonna contact their tech support tomorrow. I know that includes a lot of food--but eating campus food 3 meals a day, NO THANKS. Have a good weekend all. Since medstart and orientation occur the two weeks before that, students would have to secure housing somewhere else beforehand. The price is expensive even though utilities and food is included. Besides, it's graduate housing, not COM housing, so you may be living with other students who may not have the same hours, study habits, and what not. I would rather not listen to loud music or a party going on at 2 am in the morning when I have a exam the following day. I'm biased though. But for those interested, they are beginning to take applications for grad housing this month. So, if you're interested, contact them ASAP. And for those who intend on renting for a semester and buying a house in January, this may be the way to go. Campus housing (even the grad housing) is on the undergrad side of campus. I honestly don't know what the food is like over there--but I assume it is typical dorm type food. I do know they have the all you can eat meal thing at one location. As far as the food @ HPD...it is OKAY...but bland. It isn't bad, but it is essentially the same thing every day (breakfast and dinner options NEVER change...and most of lunch is the same every day, except the hot food rotates about weekly). I don't know about you, but I like more variation in my food choices (but I'm picky). :) Also, food in the cafeteria is kind of expensive. A lunch entree with meat, one side, and a drink is about 6.50. HemaOncoDoc 04-06-2007, 08:47 PM Campus housing (even the grad housing) is on the undergrad side of campus. Do you recommend them? kaikai128 04-08-2007, 12:42 PM Has anyone from the other classes already taken the Medstart Electives? Do you recommend them? They are new this year...because of the number of people who have weak science backgrounds and needed a brush-up before med school. I don't know for sure what classes they are all offering...but the only classes of first year that I felt were really difficult are Physiology and Microbiology (or for my class). These are usually the "weed out" classes. If I knew then...what I know now...I would have taken more physiology before medical school. I thought that Physio was going to be the end of me last year. I don't think that it is necessary to take extra courses in Anatomy, Biochemistry, etc. As long as you put in time and energy for these courses, you are going to do fine. ...of course...this is just my two cents. kaikai128 04-08-2007, 12:43 PM And they have those cool swinging tables.... The attrition rate isn't very high. Good move in signing up for the courses. MikeyLu2010 04-09-2007, 09:49 AM Everyone is different...i thought physio was good..but i sucked at gross anatomy...so far doin ok in micro..so it all depends to how you deal with the professor's test..(i know the anatomy, just cant take conover tests) you guys will see soon enough :) hilseb 04-09-2007, 12:38 PM I am a little confused, but I just got my acceptance packet and I am filling it out now. There was an email sent out to the list serve, which you can get on after you get your email, which you can get after you pay your deposit. What I don't get is that I was accepted going on 3 weeks ago now, and still have not received an acceptance packet. Any thoughts classmates? bravotwozero 04-09-2007, 02:59 PM I had the exact same thing happen to me. I got accepted in mid december of last year, and I didn't receive a packet in the mail until almost a month later! I called their office about it, and got them to fax me a letter of acceptance, so that at least you have something until the packet arrives, and you know what the deadline for the deposit is. When the damn packet finally arrived, I looked at the envelope and I think I found out why it took so long. The packet was first mailed to Jamaica, New York. Then, there was another stamp on it that showed it was 'airlifted' from Jamiaca, as international mail into Canada. Instead of using first class mail, NSU decided to use regular mail to save a few pennies  , which resulted in a not so timely delivery of my mail. The same thing had happened previously with my interview packet. However, all mail correspondence after that was sent to me via first class mail, and arrived at my mailbox within a week of the date it was mailed. HemaOncoDoc 04-10-2007, 09:17 AM Welcome Class of 2011! Congratulations to the newly admitted students! For your information, I started a Facebook NSUCOM Class of 2011 group as a networking tool to find roommates, provide and share information, and to use as a general icebreaker. Also, it is a great opportunity for incoming students to talk about issues concerning the budget, financial aid, orientation, housing, activities in the area, etc. Feel free to post in the discussion group, add pictures, message one another, and what not. There is a great deal of information on the site to peruse through. There are also OMSI and OMSII advisors available to answer your questions. I hope that it is helpful. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2227950027 For those who have already added themselves to the group, thank you very much for contributing to the site. Though we haven't started school yet, I can see that this is going to be a very cohesive class. Hope to hear from some more of you soon. Thanks! Take care and see you all soon. hilseb 04-10-2007, 03:23 PM The formal extension is: name@nsu.nova.edu, but you can get away with name@nova.edu. And there is not standard format. There are too many permutations to try. I would just wait or call up and find out... Yeah; there seems to be absolutly no rhyme or reason to how email addresses are assigned. Mine happens to be the first initial last name then my frist name (I guess my first name is less common than my last)...but there are some ppl with really odd combinations like two or three letters of first and last name. I wish we did get to pick our email addresses. It just seems a little unprofessional to use the whole zkaikai@nova.edu as my email address when I'm on rotations. :( Oh well, living on the beach next year will make me forget about my email address. hehe. There is the acceptance letter, payment coupons, and instructions on how to set up your email. It's nice to have the letter in your hand. In the meanwhile, you can put your deposit so you can get your email and enroll into the listserve. |
