retake it January or April

I took the MCAT the first time in August. I was scoring between 27-29 on the practice exam till the end. However, ended up with a 21Q (with a 5 in verbal 🙁 ) on the real thing. I dont know if I should retake it in January or April... I am applying next year, and dont have a very heavy course load this semester. In fact, it is very easy this semester. Next semester will be busy for me since I am taking ANatomy and some other higher level science classes. ANy suggestions?

By the way, is a 21Q with a 3.90 GPA good for DO schools, especially Midwestern Uni. in Illinois?

hey there...i'm in the same boat as you, except i voided my score...i'm taking 3 classes....(one of which is biochem) so i'm busy but i'm trying to re-study for the mcat to take in january..but its not looking to good right now =(....any suggestions??

i want to apply in may also....then take a year to do some research then hopefully get in..but now it seems like i might be taking off 2 years now =(

If you have a heavy load this semester then take it in April. I think the test is offered twice in January and then in early April. The scores come back in a month instead of the 2 months. The situation with me is that I dont have a very tough course load this semester so I am going to use this time wisely and go for Jan. Next semester is going to be tougher, so i dont think I willl have much time. Also if I take it in January and dont do as well, I might take it again in April, but certainly apply in June. You dont want to waste 2 years of your life.

April & January won't matter in terms of application so just take it when you feel comfortable.

Agreed. Not sure why so many folks are rushing it. It makes no difference for application next year.

the mcat is probably the most important test up to this point of your life so yea, if you're too busy now then taking it in april isn't a bad idea. Also, January people get to be guinea pigs for the new CBT format. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing
