I took the DAT's about a month ago and well let's just say I do not feel to comfortable but I would like to hear some feedback! The following were my scores:

Bio - 18
Gchem-18
Ochem-18
TS-18
AA-18
RC-16
QR-19
PAT-20

I plan on retaking it in less than two months but I would like to know if anyone out there has gotten similar scores and gotten interviews.

I also purchased DAT Destroyer...hopefully it lives up to its expectation.

What dental schools are you applying to? It all depends on what school you decide to apply to.

However, with that being said, I don't think those scores are competitive, because they are only slightly above average (which is 17). Also, the 16 on Reading Comprehension will hurt, as many schools look at that section (to see how you can handle the heavy content in dental school). A decent Reading comprehension score would be 19-20.

Try to aim for AA: 19-20 TS: 19-20

Also, if your GPA is good (like around 3.5 both science and non-science) then a 19 on a DAT wouldn't be too bad at all.

I'm in your situation as well. I had a low undergrad GPA (3.05 cum, 2.7 sci), but I've done well in my masters thus far (3.8cum/sci). I've taken the DAT twice and had the same averages both times!!! (18AA/19sci/17Pat). I've interviewed at one school and have yet to be accepted, thus I think getting my score up 1-2 points in every section will be enough to tip me over from the "hold" pile to the "accept" pile.

My breakdown:

AA: 18
TS:19
Bio: 21
Chem: 19
O. Chem: 16!!!
Reading:20
PAT:17
QR:14!!!

Obviously O. Chem needs to get up a few points, and so does QR. I've taken the Kaplan course, and didn't really like it. I used Achiever, Topscore, and all Kaplan materials.

Any advice you DAT killers? I need to get everything up a few points to make my application solid, I only have about 1.5 months to study (winter break). Is the DAT destroyer worth buying?

Thanks for the advice! ;)

Well I applied to tufts, bu, harvard, and uconn so I would say it will be tough. I also wrote to them notifying them about retaking the DAT and to please not review my application until they have gotten the second scores....do you guys think this was the right move?

I only felt that if they were to examine my application and focus on these scores I would automatically receive a rejection letter. However, I do feel like I can get better scores the second time around and this would make me a more competetive applicant. What do you guys think??

If you feel like you can improve your scores the second time around, then go for it. Just realize that sending your scores in two months is very late, as many schools have a majority of their spots filled by Feb-March.

Remember, I'm not on any admissions comittee. I'm just giving my opinion. If I were you, I would call the dental schools and ask them how good your chances are if you score 20s on the DAT the second time around.
