Hey everyone. I was recently invited to train for Kaplan to teach SAT and/or MCAT for them. I took my MCATs early, I'm just finishing up the first semester of my junior year. I am not sure that it would be a wise decision to teach an MCAT class to students who are my age, or even older than me. I think that I would be better off starting with an SAT class and then moving on to MCAT once I have graduated. Has anyone been in a similar position, or have any advice to offer?

I really think it is up to you, as to how you feel about teaching people your own age or older. In an MCAT type class I would think you're less of an authority and more of a peer.
For example, most professors have a lot of power over student's sucess, ie grades. While you're just there to help people learn. So I don't know, if I were you, I'd do whichever one you felt you could teach better regardless of your age.

I taught MCAT classes for Princeton Review my senior year. Probably half of my class was my age or older, but it turned out great! If you go into the class with the attitude that you know your stuff, they will respect you. Besides, YOU're the one who's actually taken and succeeded at the MCAT, so they'll listen!

You just have to act like an authority. It took some time for them to respect me, in my opinion, because I look so young. I wouldn't teach at a top university or they will no doubt give you crap. The local Kaplan won't let anyone except for MD or MSTP students teach my old undergrad because they would get torn apart otherwise.

Thanks for all your input! I really appreciate it. As it turns out, my schedule works better with an SAT class that starts right after training will end, so I think that's what I'm going to do this year and then next year start with the MCAT class.
