you got it. double applying in ophtho and another specialty in the regular match. just wondering how to handle this whole ROL business since ophtho is in the early match and in my ideal world, it would sort of be my backup as opposed to the one that would rule out all others if i actually match. anyone facing the same dilemna?

i'm not double applying but u still can use it as a back up. just only rank the ophtho programs you would keep above the IM programs and don't rank any that you would rather be doing medicine.

Very confused. What speciality is your first choice and which would be your backup. From what I'm understanding, ophthalmology is your backup. If that is the case, then you will probably have to make a decision on ophthalmology since it is early match.

^that's what it sounds like to me too....
which is crazy to me bc i can't imagine having ophthalmology as a back-up, lol!

since ophthalmology is early match though, i guess you'd pretty much rank only the programs you REALLY want to go to... and if you don't match, you will probably get the IM program of your choice.

acutally, I'm applying to Derm at Mass General. Plastics is my first back up.
ophtho second. if that doesn't work, i'll just scrable into rads onc.

i'm just playing it safe and being realistic.

p.s. this is about as close as i come to fanning...but if it is the case that someone is using ophtho as a 'back-up', I really don't know what to say about that.
