So I came across The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine early this year as a recommendation through a friend of mine. This handbook is by far the best I have come across in its ability to integrate pathophysiology and pharmacology in a format that lets you choose to either quickly go to a particular subsection, or simply read the chapter and pretty much know everything about the topic. And I mean everything. I have only come across a few books that I would consider excellent... such as Medical Physiology by Guyton & Hall, as well as The ICU Book by Marino. But as far as patient care on the wards... its the best. Another member listed the publishers website, being www.medconsultpublishing.com, where you can actually read through sample chapters. Check this one out. Oh... let me know if anyone has something nice for emergency medicine, as my brother is about to start his rotation, and I don't remember any stand out books for it.

My chief resident was able to get the handbook for the entire residency class after he bought one and convinced the powers that be to believe. Its fantastic. I'm glad to see that word is getting out :D. For ER, try Pocket Emergency Medicine.
