Hi,

I have to write a 3000 word research paper on something biological (its called an IB extended essay in case you want to google it for more info). The main requirements are that it can't be broad (ie the brain), and, since I want to do something involving physiology, it can't have to do with diagnosing or the clinical aspects of something (ie how to do a balloon angioplasty/how chemotherapy works/what causes cancer?). So does anyone know some hot topics in cards, GI, or oncology, because these are the fields I am most interested in, so I would like to possibly do a research paper on one of them. btw, this has nothing to do with physiology, but here is an example of a good research topic, that may help guide you:

The ecology of snails in the Maria Park area.

Thanks

btw, I'm not asking you to GIVE me the research topic for me. I just want a nudge in the right direction.

Just to throw out some ideas since there is no response yet:

Cards:
the mechanism of cocaine induced vasospasm of coronary arteries

GI:
the mechanism of Achalasia caused by Chagas disease

Good luck with your project

Just wondering, but why would a law student at NYU be doing a IB extended essay topic, which is a high school essay? Just curious because I too am doing one of them, and I think it is strange that someone from law school would be doing a physiology paper...

damn, u caught me surgeon. I lied about being a law student at NYU. I was just trying to get more information about the field of malpractice law before I cemented my career choice (or at cemented it for the most part). But, oh well. As soon as I posted this I realized that someone was invariably going to catch me

Stem cell treatment for acute myocardial infarction.

Normally cardiac muscle cells can't divide and repair an infarct. You inject stem cells into them and the stem cells become cardiac muscle cells. Pretty cool.
