Was wondering when you got your interview and how did it go like questions, stressful or not? Also maybe your stats like GPA and PCAT score.
Thank you for your help

Congrats on your acceptance,
Nova is a great school. According to the school, the living expenses are $14,000 for 9 months at Davie campus (1555/month). Why is it so high? How much do you spend for a room, food, transportation per month. Do you have to borrow a private loan? Do we need to have a car? If you are a current pharmacy student at Davie campus, please share your experience (apartments, dorms, transportaion...). Thanks in advance.

Hi T&T!

Well…living in SoFla isn’t cheap. I’m from the area, so lucky enough to live at home and save money that way. But for those in my class who have to find their own place…the loans we take out are by no means leaving us with a lot of extra cash. So since I can’t really help with apartment info, here’s a link to NSU’s off-campus housing (map and apartment locator)…maybe that’ll give you a better idea of the pricing.

http://www.och101.com/nova/
http://www.nova.edu/reslife/offcampus/forms/apartment_map.pdf

As far as a car…hmm…well, if you live close enough to the school (there are quite a few condos on University Dr. near the campus), you could walk or take a bike. But by far, most people in class have a car. Florida isn’t exactly public-transportation-friendly, and I’m not sure how those without one get to their rotations, etc. And as for dorms, there were a few people who were staying at the dorms during our P1 year, but since then, I can’t think of too many who still do. It seems like most people found other HPD students to share a condo/apt. with nearby. Everyone’s always posting “roommate wanted” signs all over the boards in the hallways.

Well…I hope that helps! Good luck with everything! ;)

yea. i looked into some companies and they all cost 1000 to bring the car over. it makes sense to have one, how are we gonna get around right? i saw not too many buses avail. hehe.

anyone have a suggestion which car transport company to deal with? im inclined to go expensivee (which is 1000) cuz its more reputable.
how r u gonna start looking for a place to live? july too?

btw: i paid the first and second deposit (500 total) the other 500 isnt due til may

I just wanted to say congrats to all of you who were accepted to NSU. I am a P3 at Nova.

I saw that some of you were questioning whether or not to bring your car, You will need it for sure. As a P1 you start on rotations (P1 year is only 4 hours per week) (usually start in Oct) and you will need transportation to these sites

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask

I'm not going to use a car transport company if i bring my car, it's far but i'll probably drive it there..
And i'll start looking at what apartments are near the campus i guess..prob for something starting august.

It is so wonderful that I got accepted for NSU Class of 2011.
Is there anyone here that will come to this school this Fall?

I will be at Nova in the fall. I am very excited about it but a little apprehensive about paying for it. Can any current student shed some light on the financial situation. First of all the financial aid page says the cost of attendance is 32k minus the near 19k for tuition leaves 13751 for everything else. Then it quotes something from 2003 on there so I wasn't sure if it was current. Is this an accurate number? I know south florida living is expensive and I am concerned about paying rent. I know I will be stressed enough with school and I don't want to be overly stressed about money. I know money is very personal but it's also a very real situation. If anyone can let me know how much they get in loans (I know again it's personal so a PM if you prefer) that would be great. Also if anyone knows of inexpensive but ok neighborhood/apartments to live in please post that as well. Thanks a bunch!

yep it took me that long....more towards the 6 weeks. you may get lucky though, the adcom meets once per month they told me so if you interviewed near that time you may hear sooner. best of luck to you!

not long.. as soon as they get it, then another week later. it took them about 2 weeks + to get my 250 deposit, and i was afraid they would withdraw so i paid another 250 over the phone with a CC. then about 2 weeks later they cashed the check deposit.
wow, you paid the 1000 total already? i guess Nova is your first choice then eh? as for me, im saving up to pay the last 500 in May.

I didn't get my email ID yet....hmm. I only sent them $250 so far because they said in my letter the second $250 isn't due until February 15th. I am still holding out on UF, however they aren't doing interviews until March (and I haven't been invited to interview yet anyhow) so either way I need to pay Nova more money! Thanks for posting about the financial aid info abt04, 42K should be plenty to live on...yikes we will all be so broke when we graduate!

i live near the school also. you can easily find a 1br apt in davie for 750. 2br for 900-1000. with a roommate thats not that bad. i see a lot of students ride bikes if they can't afford transportation. you could always get a moped.

I think I am going in June or July. I am in my friends wedding down there next month so I may be able to look a little then but I probably won't have a lot of time. Also, the 2007-08 calendar is posted and orientation starts on August 1st! How exciting :)

Hi everyone!

The COP's student affairs page just recently had an announcement saying NSU would be offering on-campus housing for grad students next year. Not sure if this interests you, but just in case, the website is: http://www.nova.edu/reslife/oncampus/graduate.html

There's also some info on off-campus housing and an apartment locator on that website that may help too. ;)

Best of luck to you all!!!

I think that Nova's West Palm Beach campus is great! The students were so into the program there. I couldn't believe how positive everyone was! I was really impressed! I will not be upset if that is where I end up going! I'm kinda excited about living at the beach!!!

Hi Everyone,

I will be attending NOVA Optometry in Fall 2007 and I was wondering if ANY of you have had luck in buying an apartment in the Davie area or around NOVA. If so, PLEASE PM me - I am desperately looking to buy a "newer" place -- one that has hopefully been built in the last 10 years. If you have any info about apartment complexes with preferably a 1/1 but a 2/2 will do as well that will be great - I'll take any advice I can get!

Thanks!

We are trying to make a decision on which university to attend this Fall as pre-pharmacy majors. We are high school seniors. We have been accepted at UNC-Chapel Hill and University of South Carolina, both as pre-pharmacy students. We have also been accepted at NSE, toured the school, and had a very good impression on what NSE had to offer. However, we have not spoken to any NSE pharmacy students to see how their experience at NSE has been. If you are a current pre-pharm or pharm student at NSE, and are willing to share your experience, please post on this forum, or e-mail us at skutnerlaw@aol.com. Much thanks.

go to UNC or USC. You do not need to go to NSE for pre-pharm. Quite honestly, their undergraduate program sucks in comparison to UNC and USC. Good luck!

Hi class of 2011,

I just got the acceptance letter from NOVA, I was so excited to see the big package everyone's been talking about. Inside the package, one of the letter has a list of things I need to send to NOVA within 90 days of registration. I found out that I am missing one class and it totally freaked me out; I am hoping that they mean everything need to get there after 90 days of registration the latest. I am planning to complete that class in Summer. I'm just wondering if anyone go through the same thing last year and if NOVA would let me take it in summer. Thanks so much.
