I thought it'd be interesting to see what everyone's fav. class is/was.....

BA/BS: Page & Film: Stanley Kubrick (an advance lit class comparing the original stories, novellas, etc. to the script and movie....I was one of 2 non-majors, so I consider my B to be an A. :laugh:

MS: Eating Disorder Seminar.....my area of research, so it was a chance to really work with my research and expand my knowledge outside of my niche.

BSSW: Probably my practicums (4 credits/semester x2 semesters)... I was at a residential tx home for severely emotionally disturbed kids. As my first assignment, they placed me in the male locked unit, for juvenile sexual offenders. :eek: I wasn't even 21 yet. Can you say "trial by fire"???? What a great learning experience.

In the classroom.... hmm. I can name a lot of things that weren't my favorites. My Intro to Sociology class was pretty cool, even if I did screw up on the final. :o

MSW: My psychopathology class, aka "Human Behavior in the Social Environment III". Fabulous prof, worked us really hard on knowing differentials, learned a TON, and use it almost daily. A close second would be SW and the Law... problem is I practice in a different state than where I went to school, so much of what I learned isn't applicable anymore.

B.A.= Cognitive Psychology, Biopsychology, Testing

MSW= none!

In my BA classes, my favorite class was a half Psychology, half Criminal Justice class called Insanity & Crime.

It was a great class, we talked about serial killers and what caused them to go kill people. Great fun.

So far I like my Autism and Mental Retardation class. The professor is hilarious to give his own demonstration. It's fun even though it's early at 8:05 in the morning.

Right now i'm taking Abnormal Psychology
which is pretty interesting except 4 the fact that it is a writting intensive course:scared: but it's not that bad u get more indept with everyhing

In my undergrad my favorite course was developmental psychology. I found the birth and infancy/childhood part to be extremely interesting. I wonder what I should specialize in, given my interest in this area.

My favorite undergrad class was "Diagnosis and the DSM-IV-TR" it was really interesting - we looked at all the different categories of disorders and got to critique the DSM - very cool!

Cognitive Psychology, without a doubt.

Clinical Psych, taught by an amazing person-centered therapist. Totally different take on things than any other prof who might have taught the course.

I'm now a post-bac at ASU in Molecular bio. They offered a bridge course here in Neuroanatomy which I really wanted to take (+ sheep brain dissections). My course load for next semester is pretty daunting though.

3rd year development of exceptionalities.

B.S - 2 courses:

Anthro of Human Mating - got to look at human mating and its evolution across culture and time.

Problematic Behaviors in Adolescence - they got a lot of problems, lol. plus we got to read novels rather than textbooks so it was great.

B.A.

Truthfully, I loved my stats sequence (not so much for the stats per say but more for the professor, who was hilarious and would have made quite the case study himself). I once told him that he was the highlight of my week, to which he replied, "Wow you must have a pretty boring life." Ha!

I know this thread is old, but I am between semesters and the kids are busy so I have some time on my hands.

I just took a class in Catastrophic Events and another in Stress Management. I am rethinking medicine per se, but I would like to work in the field, perhaps as a medical social worker or to work along side oncologists in helping patients relax and do the mental part of healing. The prof who teaches the CE and SM classes is very much into biofeedback and learning to use your mind to regulate your body. These classes and that professor will probably turn out to be the most influential on my life. I took the classes for a semester, but they will last a lifetime.

BS - Psychopathology from a practicing PHd, she was rough but well worth the time, I impress most of the psychiatrists I work with due to my DSM knowledge.

MA - Skills actually working and learning the microskills of a clinical therapuetic session. I finally learned the differance between a good listener and a good therapist. Anyone can listen, and therapist knows when to say ... hmmm-mmm for maximum effect. ;)

From undergrad - definitely abnormal psychology. I would still agree with this from professional school; those are the psych pts I most enjoy working with.

So far, Sensation and Perception is my favorite, but I have many more to go.

BS in PoliSci - Constitutional Law I & II

MSW - Policy Advocacy

BA- i am currently taking evolutionary psychology with Dr. Gordon Gallup. He is a genius and it is the most stimulating class of my undergrad career!

BA: Tie - Sensation & Perception, Abnormal, and The Epic Tradition in Film, Literature, and Television (I mean, come on, we dissected Star Wars alongside The Iliad ... what's not to like?)

MA (English/Linguistics): Discourse Analysis

MS (Psych): Stay tuned ...

BA Psych - tie between neuro and social. neuro is just plain awesome, but i had susan andersen for social. what an amazing teacher, and researcher. makes me sad i want to do clinical-i'd love to work with her in grad school.

BA Art - sculpture, w/ peter boynton. incredible artist, incredible teacher.

Neuropsychology and cognitive psychology, no doubt.

BA (Anth):

Culture & Personality (focused on identity and development of 'self' cross culturally) and Semiotics (this was a grad level course cross-listed with 6 other departments = lots of interactions :idea:)




BA (Psy): Sensory Coding Research (learned how to use electrophysiological equipment) and Pavlovian Conditioning (trained my own set of rats to the sound of 16bit monotones :)).

I suppose i am close enough to the end of undergrad career to comment.

Three way tie: Intro to psychology. An excellent teacher and the thing that made me realize that i am very interested in human behavior.

Personality psychology. The material was very intriguing and the first focused psychology course i ever took.

Brain behavior. The teacher was one of the funniest people i have ever met. I probably laughed, on average, ten times a day. I remember on the first day he said "We are going to have three tests this semester. Now i know what some of you are thinking "are we going to have four tests?" NO! We have going to have three tests."

Cool! I'm the proud owner of (...or is that slave to?;)) a green-cheek (fallow mutation). Not a pet I would ever recommend to other people, but on a personal level, I absolutely adore her.:)

On topic? Umm... I'm a bio minor and have to say endocrinology is a difficult but very interesting class and surprisingly applicable to psych.
