Crazy as it sounds I remembered some of those pics from that crazy skin exam and answered some questions on my USMLE and COMLEX.

Everyone always rags on the poor FPs...

So you are saying do research for a compeitive residency? I am thinking about going into EM and have been advised against "wasting my last free summer" by 4-5 ED docs. Since ER is mod. compeitive would research be advised against?

Yeah. I would say it's not worth it. Study hard and do well on USMLE (>220) or even COMLEX (>600) and I think you'll be fine in ER. Obviously, don't take my word as gold....I'm just some guy.

Hola,
sorry i've invited myself in, the door was open. usually the reason why those funky pics aren't posted is due to copyright infringement. you'll get it all the time esp. next year in systems. you'll get to see a bunch of the pictures again in lab and then at the end of the year. you have a visual recognition exam and there's a ppt somewhere on judy that has a gazillion (no exaggeration) slides that will be similar, not exact, to the ones you'll be tested on. good luck on PD. thank gawd you score major points in SPAL in 1st year.
now, i quietly close the door and slip away...

Maybe I am wrong but, when you site a source doesn't that take away the whole copyright infringment?

Aren't we all just some guy in the end...unless we are girls, very sexy girls.. (looking at you Sound man... ). Anyways, the only reason I was even thinking about doing research was the cash (I don't want to go back to my old job at the ass cleaning express).

I agree 100%. I like how she told us to study the pics yet won't give us access to the PP-

where does the tuition money go again?? no copyrights in PD or OMM...hmmm....maybe we should start a "copyright" donation fund..

Yea no kidding, I wonder if they just don't know how to post PP's on blackboard...

Oh well, I'm sure there's a textbook on the library portal that has all sorts of nasty pictures to look at. I'll scour Judy too, and see what I can find-

Fisher put that oiled sex butt up on 3 different slides.

I'll bet you were looking for the source!!

i remember a pic from one of a professor's lectures that had the back of buck naked, tanned, soaking wet woman on it. i don't remember what it was for, but i know i looked for the site source on that one cuz it didn't quite fit. it was strange to see that and then the next slide to be a mangled celiac plexus.

Consider this "sticker remove" and "throw the ashes in the dumpster" day.
Me and that class are now officially divorced. Want more involvement, *edit edit edit*!!

Was making myself a "W W A.T. D" wrist band, but consider that mofo garbage.

I read Woolley like a book on that one. During the Microbio test, I sat there and thought 'yea, there's definitely a quiz today.' Now, I'll bet jbone's minivan (with sticker, of course) that there won't be one next Monday. You up for it jbone? I might have to take some kids to soccer in about ten years or so.

Anyways, I emailed canby about the class, the pretest doesn't count towards passing the class. I think it is just to guage how much you know.

I'm doing it as well it sounds like a lot of fun, and I should probably do an elective finally since everyone else has done a bunch already; also I apparently need to be "involved" because we as a class obviously are not....

But really I'm actually pumped for Canby's classe, he wrote the freaking book and it flat out looks awesome from what i've browsed through. He'll sign it too for you if you give him like 5 bucks.

Everytime someone comes in and says that our class is not involved, I think of you Soundman. I also will be spending some time with Dr. Canby in that Anatomy class. The only way that it could get better than Canby is if he co-taught it with Steele. I love both of those guys.

my question is: how does buying a teddy bear make me invovled? No offense to whatever club is doing that but, I need to use my hands to be invovled, that is why I have been active with Habitat for Humanity down here. Just because I don't sing about it to DMU doesn't make me uninvovled. Anyways, that rant over.

LMU is stealing our beloved Dr. Cross away from us. They will truly be the lucky ones getting such an experienced caring anatomy prof like Dr. Cross... he is already fighting for them. Apparently the administration wanted to give the students some cheap laptops, and Dr. Cross did some research into tablets (including calling me into his office to look at my tablet!) then convinced the administration that tablets were the way to go. So now the students are all getting tablet PCs.

anyway, we're looking for a new anatomy department head. Fisher was the first presenter today -- next week we have someone from OUCOM. It's hard to get a feel for a professor from a one hour research presentation, so I thought I'd ask y'all what you thought. I'd like to see someone pretty good come in for the next UNECOM anatomy course.

Besides jbone... this is as close as we're gonna get to actually being at the same school. Sharing professors. :D

Hey I have a quick question for you guys. I'm in class 2011, and I was curious what happens with location and rotations? I'm thinking of buying a house, but I am not sure if it is worth the investments if I am not going to be around for the third and fourth year. Simply put, is it common to move away from the school area for your rotations?
Thanks :)

They're reworking them currently, to try and get students *starting with our class* to do the majority of their 3rd year in IA. I think some other CORE sites would be an option (MI, maybe OH) too. As far as I know, 4th year would be much more wide open.

To tell you the truth, I really don't know much more than you do right now. Maybe some others on here would be able to fill you in better.

They are "trying" but it won't happen anytime soon. We have too many sweet rotation spots that they aren't going to just "give up". I do know however that if you have a more "established" lifestyle (home, family etc) you will probably get the nod to stay close to school as compared to someone with a more "fluid" situation. That being said, with 95% of the second years getting their #1 rotations requests, it is obviously working out just fine. Some people want to go out and do the Michigan or Ohio swing. While others, like myself, would like to remain close to home here in Des Moines. I wouldn't worry about it. I know plenty of students here who have purchased a home and they are doing just fine. Maybe one of them can chime in? Soundman? Bonesaw? Where you at?

I'm also concerned with how I'm going to pay a mortage, with borrowed money? Seems kinda like robbing peter to pay paul in a way. Also, I don't have the slightest inkling on how to buy a house or condo so if someone who started out ignorant like myself and bought a home could chime in or pm me that would be awesome. Hmmm... 95% seems a bit exaggerated. I'm a second year and I don't know the percentage of people that got their first choice. That was never publicly announced.

To dispel all the rumors, I'd recommend getting info from the source: The Clinical Affairs Department.

Here's my 2 cents, since you asked. 3rd and 4th year rotations aren't as sweetly set up as the brick and mortar school. This is well known amongst 2nd years and the rotation design is in a state of flux. Our class had different policies(somewhat) than the year before. and the 2010s will have different policies(somewhat) than ours. The goal is to get as many students getting their education from Iowa docs as possible. But, it's a long process.

I have worked with CA all year and this much I know first hand: A. they are looking out for your best interests; B. The way things are, are not in perfect operating order; C. Clinical Affairs knows this to be true and are flexible with you, to a point.

The lottery that puts you into your required rotations 3rd year is not that flexible. You can qualify for a special circumstances need. That means that you will be placed somewhere, relative to your need. This DOES NOT guarantee a spot in Des Moines. Owning a home here does not qualify for special circumstances as far as this year's lottery went. People with kids in school, a grandmother that you have to take care of, those burdens that need your direct attention qualify.

I would hate for you to make your decisions on anything other than on info that is provided by the school so that's all i'll say. if you find out, i'm sure some other folks would like to have some knowledge.

ciao

I recommend it.
-While they basically read the book to you, you still may need check out what they're talking about in greater/better detail with the book.
- Every system that has pathology in it next year, uses that book.
- It's THE reference book for all thing pathological. Kinda like a dictionary is for words.
- $100 is a drop in the bucket for a kick butt reference book you'll use for life.

Here's the $hitty thing- if I didn't have PD lab today I wouldn't freakin' be here either. God help them if they cancel that at the last minute...

I'd say there were probably 50 people in lecture, maybe 60 for phys. And Dreyvenko (sp?) didn't make it until 8:35. Funny, he probably thought that DMU would be CRAZY to have classes today too.

Back in undergrad. we had this huge winter storm move in the early morning, something like 9" dumped in a matter of 2-3 hours (right before class would have started). The state declared it an emergency and asked that only necessary travel be conducted. Even Walmart closed (as someone who used to work there, that is saying a lot). So, one of the only institutions to stay open, our college. What made it worse was that 45% of our class didn't live on campus haha. They got a lot of backlash from that.

Freak...my back window faces I-80 and it's a ghost town. I think only inbound is open but outbound (To Omaha) is closed. Or people aren't dumb enough to jump on the white wash. That is of course, unless you go to DMU. It's hilarious!

Anyway, I jumped in my new ride (minivan) to cruise down to the post office but had to stop because I couldn't see a damn thang and my engine was freezing up! I had to return my ride and jump on my Tauntaun. Made it only half way when Shirley, my tauntaun, died from the exposure and I had to cut her open with my lightsaber and slide my wife and children inside her guts to keep them warm. They are fine now but I got my arm chewed up pretty bad by that damn snow monster. We were fortunate though, because a speeder on patrol spotted us and we were saved.
Anyway, nice call there DMU. Nice way to keep cramming path/phys despite the "you are a dumb ***** if you are on the roads today/unless you have a tauntaun" warning. Anyway, back to the 360..oh I mean...physiology. Later.

BTW, why the hell do we live on the planet Hoth anyway?

Is it just me: does anyone else get lazy and just not study as much as they should? Like I study to get the main concepts down but, the little details that are on the exam, I just don't concentrate on. Eh, maybe I just need to stop being lazy :) .

Wow. I'll never claim to be the brightest student here, but the GI questions far exceeded our current level. I could've studied more, but I still would have missed roughly the same number of questions from GI. I'm guessing the test writer is quite pleased with himself right now, since they finally "broke" our class.
Check the scores....it was brutal.

My grade is atrocious purely because of the GI questions. On the questions missed, it reads like a list.... 28, 29, 30, 31, 32.....etc.

I'm glad we won't have him again for Phys.

Yeah, mine gets bad right at question 37 and continues in a downward spiral.

I would love to know what the average score was for just the GI portion of the test.

It was only the second test all year that someone didn't get a 100 on (the radiology was the other one). However, I must admit, I DON'T wish I was that SOB because then I wouldn't be able to watch as much Family Guy as I currently do. But, with the grade I got from this test, I now need to buckle down to get a respectable score; maybe they will give us back 10 points (oh the days of bev. medicine).

I really think that Henry was just pissed because most of the class didn't go to his lectures.

the test definitely sucked, and i know that there was atleast one question where there were two answers possible. If you look at the breakdown it will be all GI for sure, that's the ones I missed as well, and it's not that I didn't know the concepts or ideas. It's much more enjoyable when someone legitimately tests your ability to understand the concepts vs. trying to make the question so it's so confounding you don't even know what the heck it's really asking.

Is just wrong.

Also, I hate these questions: hello, what is my answer:
A)I don't have an answer
B)my answer is anything but not an answer, or maybe its not
C)Are you confused yet as to my answer
D)Choices A and B are correct
E)Choices A and C are correct
F) All answers are incorrect

We just need to do away with those.

I just found out some more depressing news for anyone wanting to go into EM. I used to find solace in the fact that it wasn't as hard as cardiovascular surgery to get into a residency spot but, I just learned that only 32 spots were not filled in the Match (6 allo, 26 osteo). Soundman, totally agree with you: test what we actually know, not whether we can think what the questioner is thinking. I left the test frustrated because I KNEW that I knew the material but that test didn't gauge our understanding of GI physiology well at all...

Path blows! Don't sweat your grade on the first exam though. If it's structured like it was last year, you will get a bunch of points back b/c they profs can't figure out how to right fair questions. Also, second exam is much easier & everyone will do fine on it.

Did anyone else read through the Innominate about class attendance. The arguments that attendance should be mandatory where "re-freaking-diculous." I don't remember "committing" to attend all classes when I decided to come here. And we "all have the same things going on thoughout the week."??? I didn't know everyone here was married, had kids, just delivered a baby....etc.
And whoever said the idea that "I can learn more on my own" is simply bogus, must have a new diffinition of bogus. If bogus means you retain more and get better grades and can have a clinically related discussion about the topic, then not going to class is bogus. You HAVE to learn on your own, no one else can do it for you, so do it your way.
Not going to class doesn't mean you are home sleeping in or wasting time, but using that time in a way that works best for you

No doubt. That person is obviously a tool. He/she is just mad because they went to every lecture, ran down after to kiss the professor's *****, dropped them an email daily trying to sound like they are so diligent and go and drop a 65% on the exam. And it makes them mad because people are able to pick and choose when to go to class and they get in the high 90s and actually UNDERSTAND the info.

As a member of the 2011 entering class I was reading some of the posts about the rotations meeting. Has any new light been cast on the future of DMU clinicals? I'm mostly curious about Ohio and Michigan sites since that's where I'm most interested in going. Are they limiting these sites? Or is it more about sites being created in Iowa? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The meeting pretty much said that the clinical situation is always fluid. They are always adding new sites and some are dropping.

They said that they are slowly trying to phase in the Iowa slots.

They didn't mention the Ohio or Michigan core. I'm almost certain that those sites will be around for years to come.

I thought that they were at least going to give some further insight into what was going on. Seriously, was that really a mandatory meeting? I think that meeting actually left me feeling MUCH worse about the whole situation. I mean, I know where their sites were (for the most part) the last few years and figured I'd end up there, but the 'Some of you will get none of the sites you want' is probably not the best thing to say, although it may end up being true for some people, unfortunately. I realize things change, but it kind of scares me to hear that not only do we have no idea what's going to happen, but they actually have no idea what will happen. The school has been around for 100+ for God's sake.

I wouldn't worry about the rotations. They are good now and I am pretty sure that not much more will change during our time here at DMU. He was quoting about a 95% chance we'll get at least our top 5 slot. Which, from what I have heard from some of my 3rd year friends is actually low. None of them had any problems getting at least their top 3. So I think he was being conservative with that number. But yes, there will be some that don't get what they want...hence the term "LOTTERY". That is the way it is. It is the same with every other medical school out there without a fully functional hospital on campus and even alot of them get screwed. We just need to chill and it should work out.
As for the Michigan/Ohio swing...lets face it people, it's not going away for quite some time. Which is good because they have some pretty sweet locations.

I didn't even know what the heck she was talking about for the first 30 seconds. I will add, however, that if people are switching test forms, I can really only think of one reason you would want to do that. It's still not worth a class meeting though, especially the day before the path exam.

I actually heard of someone who had to move from Florida to New York over a weekend for their next rotation. Also heard a few other interesting circumstances. Maybe I'm just hearing the wrong things/talking to the wrong people though.

My thing is this...if you see someone doing that, you personally go up, grab them by their pubes and drag them outside and beat their *****. You don't yell at the whole class for something 1 or 2 people are doing. With the DPMs, that's over 300 people. It really took me out of the "zone"...if I ever had one. I know I'd be dragging someone out by the short hairs if I saw someone doing that. The anger is understandable, but do something about it other than yell at everyone.

Ok, not the pubes but you catch my drift.

Am I ever going to study today...uhhhh we'll see.

That is my point as well, in that if you have an idea who is doing these things, don't go after the honest people too. In addition as jbone said, if you see something you are OBLIGATED to report it. It's that simple people. Nothing though surprises me these days, it just pisses me off that some of these people may be my colleagues later in life and they'll be thought of as equals to me, when they are nothing more than a bunch of haxs!

...hold up here....get yelled at...no thats not what I want! I would rather think that the people that did exchange forms or whatever they did would come out and say something...when was it ever allowed to even touch the tests before the exam starts.

"We will not lie, steal, or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does."

I have always thought before this happened that the professors "believed" that by signing the honor code they could trust us to obey this simple and honest code and here some of our classmates are pluckin around with the test forms before the exam....STUPID!

This gives professors proof that they should not trust us with exams or even during a review secession. To think that this "belief" is still in our teachers with what has happened now is a farsight. No wonder they have been so cautious...the honor code doesnt mean anything to anyone...they just signed it becuase they had their nice white coat on and their parents were there taking pictures unaware that the code required some common sense.

Im sorry if I am a little emotional...The honor code has been instilled in me for quite sometime and should be given its full respect.

Im sorry if I am a little emotional...The honor code has been instilled in me for quite sometime and should be given its full respect.

So your basically stating that because a couple of idiots don't know how to handle themselves, WE ALL SHOULDN'T BE TRUSTED???????????? Why shouldn't they trust us? I'm freakin 31 years old. I pay $32,000 a year to attend here. I moved 1100 miles away from my home with my wife and 2 kids to live here and get an education. I give this school my all everyday in hopes to one day be a great physician. Why SHOULDN'T they trust us??? You need to watch your blanket statement because 99.99% of us bust our balls everyday for the same dream and we DESERVE trust and respect because I think that many of us have tried to earn it. I do agree....this crap cannot be tolerated and the professors/faculty SHOULD TRUST US enough to follow the honor code. I'm done with undergrad drama.

...hold up here....get yelled at...no thats not what I want!

I think everyone has the right idea here. My question would be: Do we even need an honor code? I mean, seriously, by your 20s (I realize some people are older) don't you think that you would learn that cheating is wrong, stealing is wrong, etc. I mean, I'm glad they have the honor code, but in all reality, it shouldn't even be necessary. We're in a professional school and people are still cheating, that's just ridiculous. What are they going to do when it comes time for the boards or worse yet, real life?

Oh, and does it scare anyone else that this was caught during a PHYSICAL DIAGNOSIS class??? I mean, I'm pissed to know that anyone would even think of cheating in any class, but PD is one that you're going to use every day when you practice. I'm just really mad over the whole thing and it makes my hard work, and the hard work of everyone else who takes their tests the right way worth that much less.

DON'T YOU DARE lump me in the same catagory as ANYONE. Restate your comments because your blanket statement is unacceptable.

These people that were cheating or whatever during this class, are hopefully a small minority of our class and do not reflect hopefully the majority of our class, although sometimes I wonder, with our leadership and the comments they made to certain OMM professors is this sort of attitude more prevelant and I am just an old naive 30-something with 3.5 kids?

Some may say that "we are in our 20's and don't need an honor code, etc" but obviously there are those that need to be reminded, and I think a HARSH punishment is definitely in store and deservedly so for those if there is proof.

The student honor code is just in place as a way of saying, "we told you not to do that," if you get caught doing something wrong. I personally think that cheating on the medical school level is disgusting and the people caught doing it should be immediately removed. Maybe I don't know every test or statistic for breast cancer but, at least I studied them. If you cheat, you learn nothing and that hurts your patients in the future; I would rather guess on every question than stoop to cheating. I am one of the more laid back people in our class but, I would not object to these people, whoever they are, being kicked out. I felt that being yelled at like that was a bit too far (made me feel like I was back in high school) but I am no less as upset as she was. I don't even have words to describe it. This should not be happening at this level of education; disgusting.

Exactly what I was trying to say, just worded much better. When I said there shouldn't have to be an honor code I didn't mean that we should literally get rid of it, but rather that people should be grown up enough to know everything in the honor code. As Soundman said, that surely doesn't seem to be the case considering the situation this morning, as well as with other things that have happened earlier in the year.

In Soundman's reference to our 'student leadership', which I, as I'm sure many of you, use very loosely, it's a mess and I can only hope that things can go more smoothly next year. I consider myself a pretty laid back guy as far as joking around and stuff like that, but some of the things that have been done (i.e. email about the OMM dept., several other emails that have been sent and the situation this morning) have made me extremely mad at the select few who have chosen to abuse the system.

Ok folks. Here's the deal.

This morning I walked past my normal test row, dropped off my pencil, and took my bag to the front. I came back and a student had moved from where he was sitting on my way past. I asked them why they had moved. They replied that they had just been yelled at for moving a test. This person wanted Form B and not form A!!!!!!!!!

Now we have to deal with all this crap because someone wanted form B!! There was no intention to cheat. Just someone not thinking straight enough to change seats in the first place. I don't know if this was the only case or not.

You know many people have rituals and stuff, you know we all do. But all of us know NOT to move the tests. It's just a given. Some of us look at which form they have and then move chairs to correspond to the correct form, if the form and chairs don't match, I guess your screwed. Point is, all of us look at the form, I don't think that is the problem though.

The most upsetting part was that she essentially lumped us all together as a bunch cheaters. If they knew who was switching tests, then simply remove them from the room. Throughout the entire test, I felt guilty....for absolutely NO reason. I'm the type that frequently looks up and stares off into the distance as I try to visually/mentally recall something......I guess I'll have to curb that from now on.

Just started reading this thread, you guys are pretty funny. I'm going to sound like a total idiot, but was that really Alanis Morrisette? That made me crack up. Also, I remember Alanis Morrisette being kind of nasty looking, but she didn't look too bad in that video (if that is her).

On another track, tommorrow I am starting the first day of my last week of rotations! My hours are 10-4 MWF. Or whenever I feel like showing up or leaving. And I take at LEAST an hour for lunch, when I sit and talk with the nurses and secretaries. ROTATION ARE WAY BETTER THAN THE FIRST TWO CRAPTASTIC YEARS!!!! Two things I found out that you might like to know. First of all, you are never as booksmart as you are right after you take step one. By the time you hit the end of fourth year/beginning of internship you have forgotten A LOT of stuff. Secondly most of the stuff you have to learn the first two years is either not important or only important if you go into internal medicine. For example, heart sounds. At the most you might need to be able to hear a murmur. Diagnosing by sound and location......not so much. Not when the cardiologist can bill for an eccocardiogram (sp?) and it's performed by a tech anyway. Neural pathways:laugh:  definitely not. And I just finished a month of Neuro and am now in a PM&R rotation.

I swear the only reason we had to learn some of that crap was so residents and attendings could get some strange joy out of pimping you on stuff they have not once used in clinical practice. I can't count the amount of times someone pimped me about the stupid coagulation cascade. Amount of times I've seen someone apply it in a useful situation.....ZERO!!!

Keep up the good work guys, it goes quick and it's worth it.

I'm gonna sound like a giant (l), but that was definitely a "pick me up" kind of post that I needed to hear. I know how incredibly quickly this first year has gone by, but I seriously cannot wait for 3rd year. I'm certain it's going to be sucktastic (especially for the first rotation or so), but good Lord, it has to be better than sitting in a lecture hall all day trying to stay focused, when it's soo much easier jack around on the internet.

So Thank You for reminding me that my life is pretty sweet.

On a side note: My pornstar name would be Edwin Northern Oaks......if only I had followed my childhood dreams.

Yeah, I don't know where I lost the majority of my points but, it was a huge change from the first test; and not in the positive way. I am not sure if it was just me or was it just the fact that we had a physio test three days prior so that made it hard to study? Either that or the questions sucked balls. Opinions?

I don't believe those particular questions tested concepts but rather, do you remember every little minutae of detail that I through out there, but really didn't emphasize. A little birdie told me about this thread; its clear that you first years enjoy your whining. Sorry to burst your bubble but it only gets harder 2nd year. You really need to chill or theres no way you'll last through next year and boards. You can choose to either accept that school is hard and gets frustrating and challenging at times or just keep on reacting to it the way you are and spend the next three years (plus however long residency turns out to be) being miserable and pissed at everyone.

Just my opinion, let the flames begin.

Dear whoeveryouare,
It's called venting and yes, many of us have crossed the line (including myself and I apologize). However, I think we will do just fine in second year and beyond thank you. There is nothing wrong with venting and joking around (or "Whining" because I'm sure your class never did) but I agree, it must be kept somewhat respectful and decent.

BTW, I will try to chill with my posts because I have crossed the line and that just isn't me. I just like to vent a little with a little humor and I didn't think it would offend anyone. Anyone who knows me KNOWS that I love this school and it's faculty and what it stands for. Don't hate me because I'm stupid and beautiful.

I love how the "experienced" students come in here and tell us that we aren't going to make it and how much harder it's going to be during the second year, and how all we do is whine. Funny how we heard same thing about those classes above us and how they were whiners as well.

Point is as jbone alluded to, it's a place to vent, but somethings got offline and that's been corrected by many of us including me. So for us that aren't gonna make it through boards or 2nd year, we appreciate your advice.

I only ventured to your site after reading the DMU email sent out today. If you don't mind, I would like to say a few things.

1. Everyone always says that "the next year's harder." I've listened to a lot of students from more than one class. They all have said that every year has it's challanges, but that "this year" is really better than the last. (It could be because it's closer to the end!)

2. Every class gets in trouble for something. That's just the way it goes. Everyone has growing pains. This too shall pass. Things get better.

3. Don't allow someone to get to you. You all know that you will get through next year. You've gotten this far. I don't think the whole class, most of the class, or even 15% of the class will all of a sudden give up.

The main point of this post... Just hang in there!

ophidianben: I appreciate your comments, however, I would also appreciate not being pigeon-holed as a whiny member of the class of 2010 due to the comments of a few of my classmates. There are bad apples in every bunch including yours, you should realize this and be careful not to offend too many people.

To incoming/prospective students and peers at other schools: I assure you that the words of the few do not represent the vast majority of DMU-COM's Class of 2010. We are proud to be at a great school, full of great students who love what we are doing and act in a respectful manner deserving of our future profession.

For my classmates: I understand your frustration with classes, the sarcastic humor and need to vent. However, this is a public forum. Writing here is different that writing an email or talking in the hallway. Your posts are annonymous to most, so they represent your 200+ peers as much as they do you, something that it appears you failed to consider. We have all worked hard to get to where we are today, and the negative reputation you have succeeded in promoting is a slap in our faces. If you feel the need to vent by means of dirty jokes, etc in the future I encourage you to do so, however, please refrain from doing it in a public forum. I do not care to think of what opinions these posts may have impressed onto incoming and prospective students.

I am tired of being labeled as a whiny, unprofessional DO '10. While we are learning how to become physicians lets try to learn how to also act like physicians.

WOW! I obviously have nothing to defend. I have never posted on this site before today & I am not a DMU '10er, but maybe you need to take your own advise & let things "roll off" as you put it. I don't think there is any need to take yourself quite this seriously. Yes, in an ideal world everyone should be professional, but in the real world that is NOT the case. Just to give you my credentials, so that you take me seriously. I am a business grad. I have worked at fortune 100 companies and was the VP of a company. If you think that is the way the real world is and what you are going to find on rotations, I would suggest bringing ear plugs with you on surgeries, in the ER, outside of many patient rooms, and in OB on call rooms. Sorry hunny, life ain't like that. To paraphrase a well known icon, who the heck are you to throw the first stone? Wait until you get further in your education and medical career. People are allowed to criticize their place of work or the place they attend school. Trust me when I say I have seen DMU (the school as an entity) sully their own image professionally. I will not post the laundry list, but it is there. Every school and every business has one. No one is perfect. Please do not try to hold yourself, your fellow students, and your university to a standard that is not obtainable. It will only lead to heartbreak.

To incoming students that might be checking this site, DMU is as good if not better than any other school. You need to interview and meet the faculty & students to decide if it's a good fit for you. If you make your decisions based on an on line forum, you are only cheating yourself. DMU has a good reputation, and I challenge you to find a school that has 100% satisfaction all the time. It would be like finding a profession that has 100% satisfaction rate... It's not out there! If you find one, they're lying and I'd stay away!

SOUNDMAN

Cheese,

I haven't said anything on here that I wouldn't say in person, I have not said anything bad about the university. I haven't denegrated any individuals, only stating that how an unnamed lecturer asked questions on a pathology test is not indicative of normal board type questions.

So my point is that yes this is a place to vent about our medical school, about a test that we just had in medical school at DMU, that others may read. It's about real things that go on at DMU and what medical school is like for the average real medical students and how we get frustrated sometimes. So it does tell the story about "real health professionals" and their journey towards that goal. That's all I did and many others.

You calling out individuals is flat out ridiculous, we all got the e-mail, changes were already done and posts and apologies were made. You bringing up specifics is uncalled for and you owe those people an apology.

You can PM me here, I don't need a special e-mail address to get a hold of me. Heck you can talk to me about it at school, most everyone knows who I am.

I apologize if I have offended any of you out there and if I may have lashed out somewhat too much, that was not my intent. I know that you all work very hard, take school very seriously and will someday make excellent doctors. It was also not my intent to be a "father" or "throw the first stone." I am quite aware that the real world is not perfect and that professionalism is not found everywhere. I also don't mean to say that I am always as professional as I should be but I think it is something that as future physicians we need to aspire towards.

I am very very tired and frustrated at getting an email every week from Dr. Mueller telling us all yet again how someone did something to make us look bad. I'm also tired of DAILY hearing second years, DPMs, PAs and DPTs make comments about our class. We have gotten ourselves under the spotlight fair or not, and I think we all just need to try to show everyone that we aren't a bunch of whiners and that we are professional.

Ahh now this I believe and can even agree with. The point is that it was the second years or 09ers that had our place last year. They were the "whiners" when it came to tests etc. It's always the first class it seems, it does get old though after awhile, when we know it's not true.
