View Full Version : Advice on my not so hot score!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!
LinhN 01-27-2007, 12:26 PM Hi Everyone,
I didn't do too hot on my 1st time taking the DAT. I've been studying on and off for a while now, and Top Score and Kaplan said I would get around 19s. Anyways I didn't do well,
PAT 16
QR 17
RC 21
Bio 18
GC 16
OC 16
TS 17
AA 17
My GPA is 3.3 in Biomedical engineering from a Tier one college, and I've been working for two years in research, and been published 4x in National Scientific Journals. Anyways my DAT scores are def. not good, but do you think I HAVE to take them again? I just want to get into BU, and its not as competive to get in there.
PLEASE HELP
Streetwolf 01-27-2007, 12:39 PM All signs point to yes. Multiple 16s = not so hot.

Ex_EE 01-27-2007, 12:50 PM I would say yes esp with a 3.3 if you had a 3.7 then maybe not.
eaglesrugby12 01-27-2007, 07:28 PM OP im a BME at a tier 1 as well and in a gpa situation similar to yours. I definitely feel your pain. Unfortunately, you're gonna need to retake the DATs to have a chance at admission. Shoot for twenties. If you got through the hell of BME at a good school, this shouldn't be a prob. Try using the Destroyer this time. I hear good things about it.
djeffreyt 01-27-2007, 07:39 PM These are BU's general Stats for accepted Applicants a couple years ago as listed in the ADEA Guide to Dental Schools:
DAT 19.12
PAT 18
GPA overall 3.55
GPA Science 3.25
And the competitiveness of applicants, unless everyone is wrong about this, has only increased since then. This is not to say you stand no chance at acceptance, but why limit your chances.
I had science and overall GPAs above 3.5 and a DAT score of 22, PAT of 23. I didn't get an interview nod from BU for a long time and eventually got an email a month after other people had begun to hear that I could have an interview in March...So there you go. You can make the decision for yourself.
StephL26 01-28-2007, 10:21 AM Hello!
I'm in the same boat as you. Recommendation from some dental school admissions people...retake DAT 'cuz my GPA was "low", although I also graduated as a BME student from a pretty good school. Most schools look more at the DAT now.
Good luck!
dudewhensmydat 01-28-2007, 01:29 PM It's getting so competitive that even 19s across the board may not get one into BU this or upcoming years.
IMO, I think you should retake the DAT and consider in advance as to what materials you will use...Achiever, Topscore, Destroyer, Schaums, and how much time you will spend studying (I needed 3.5 months b/c of average intelligence).
Good luck and don't give up. Remember that effort goes a long way!

Law0830 01-28-2007, 07:32 PM i would defnitely retake it if i were you dont feel bad just put in some more effort and youll bring them up.
washingtonDAT 01-28-2007, 07:32 PM LinhN, first off, don't be discouraged, with hard work you can do much better. My first recommendation is to use the destroyer. If you understand it, it will bring your science scores up significantly. Additionally, I would use schaums to supplement some of the bio sections that are not represented well in kaplan. If you understand the material in the destroyer you’ll be fine, but make sure you understand it!
postbac 01-28-2007, 07:46 PM You have the kind of scores I want.
LinhN 01-28-2007, 09:03 PM Thanks everyone,
Its nice that people know how I feel and some are in the same boat. I really appreciate it. It def. gets frustrating ... esp. when you just want to do well!!! I'm posting a new thread for ideas on ways for me to study. Please help me out, guys!:)
