How detailed is the DAT? Organic chemistry has a whole lot of stuff. What are the most important, detailed, and frequently seen things in the OChem section?

Also does the gen chem section have problems where you have to calculate equilibrium of certain products/reactants (the situation where you have to use the ICE chart)?

and for the bio section is the whole evolution, natural selection, ecology stuff even really asked? i don't see how that relates to dentistry today..especially since gen bio 2 deals more with everything that isn't human (bacteria, plants, ect)

thanks in advance for the help

Ok, for the Organic section on the DAT is really straight forward. Make sure you know your SN1, SN2, E1, E2 reactions PERFECTLY, aromatic reactions, stability of the systems (by conjugation, etc), Reduction & Oxidation..and you will be good to go!

for the Biology section ALL the whole evolution, natural selection, ecology stuff IT is REALLY ASKED, so know it! Study hard!! Best wishes:luck:

wow... thanks for your super fast reply Uracil! i guess evolution and all that stuff is easy even though i don't think its important. Is the DAT more Bio 2 or Bio 1? And Chem 2 or Chem 1? and if the OCHem stuff is straight forward i shouldn't be scared?

i guess the reason people get low scores because getting 1 thing wrong costs you a point out of 30 even though there are 100 questions in nat. science and 90 in PAT.

thankfully i have 2 years to prepare... better get my study on now... i'm feeling nevous even thought its 2 yrs away, but mad that the grading scale is so unfavorable.. and yet the excitement of a challenge makes me look forward to it...

wonder if i am the only weirdo? heh

Im not sure what you mean getting 1 wrong is a pt out of 30. thats not how it works, there is a conversion chart, a curved score if you will. otherwise, lots of people would be recieving negative scores. second, you don't need 2 years to prepare..thats total overkill. i would say, a hard month or 2 is sufficient to break 20s. gl.

No, webdivx is correct, 1 wrong on any science question and you're down to a 29 for total science. It does that for a few points until the next couple questions wrong will cost you one more point. Then you lose a point for every few questions after that.

There's a conversion chart somewhere that looks sorta like this:

100 right = 30
99 right = 29
98 right = 28
97 right = 27
...
94 right = 24
92-93 right = 23
89-91 right = 22
86-88 right = 21
81-85 right = 20

etc

I got that from my DAT study guide. I think it's correct.

No i agree. I thought he meant each pt was worth 1 pt for every pt.

ohhh nope. i meant to get some of the higher scores (like a 30). Once you go to like 24 there is a little more leeway, but to get 25-30 the grading works against the test taker.

here's the chart from ADA: http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/dat/dat_estimate_score.pdf

Oh yeah... Is the DAT more Bio 2 or Bio 1? And Chem 2 or Chem 1? Or are they both equally seen? Heh... more Chem 1 and Bio 2 would be great

study EVERYTHING. by taking a shortcut, you will be very dissapointed with your score.

ps- 2 years is overkill. 2 months is good.

You bet they ask that stuff. like 40% of my bio section was on plants, ecology, evolution....they even asked 4 or 5 questions about annelids..what a pain. But yes, know it ALL!!

4 on annelids?! there are like only 40 questions on the bio part. thats 10% of ur score!

study EVERYTHING. by taking a shortcut, you will be very dissapointed with your score.

thats true. i am studying everything, but for mental support purposes i like to know its not hard lol.

2 years is a lot..true. but i want to go in there like its something i do everyday. :D

So I am guessing AP 1 and 2 or Micro would not help you on the DAT? it seems as if I should be taking Botany this semester!? please some imput!
