Can someone tell me how the structure of the board exams works?
How many are there, and is one didactic while the other practical? Which years do you take them?

There is one exam (The North American Veterinary Licensing Exam) - you take it in your 4th year (usually in November). It consists of 360 Multiple guess (multiple choice) questions, and the test is computerized.

Besides the NAVLE, you must also become licensed in each state that you practice in. There are several states that give their own board exams as requirements for a license (California, Nevada, etc.). The state board exams are variable. California is multiple choice pencil-and-paper exam taken in Sacramento, and you also must turn in a completed law exam (open-book).
