I was wondering how tough is to get into a pulm/critical care fellowship. I am about to start my residency in July in a Community hospital University affiliated. I have more than one year of basic science research experience in pulm/crit care and will have 4 publications as a second author and 4 abstracts (one of which first author). What else need to be done to get into the fellowship?

since I'm new in this forum and have to start the residency yet, I don't know at what year of residency the applications start, 2nd or 3rd year? Also do you recommend to do a 1month elective at the hospital where I would prefer to go?
