I'm somewhat interested in pulm/cc, mainly because it seems to be a good combo of both specialization and breadth.

Some of the pulm/cc guys I've met are just wizards -- guys who are insanely strong in medicine and can deal with true crises. Do you think it is a fair assessment by me to think of pulm/cc as int medicine on meth?

Anyway, what is the lifestyle of a pulm/cc doc like? Is it as bad as or worse than surgery?

That analogy is actually very appropriate. A good pulmonologist can take care of just about anyone as much as any one doctor can. The meth part is also approriate since they go without sleep way too often.

Critical care is internal medicine at 90 mph. That's what I was told as a first year, and that's what I saw as a fourth year.
